Mad Mike’s World
Великобритания

My life from the farm to my walking adventures. Ex military and ending up breeding Highland Cattle or more commonly known as Coos. I must be mad because I’ve climbed Mont Blanc and walked the Pennine Way 😁

Wey and Arun Canal Part Two
Part two of my wondering along the Wey and Arun canal or should I say the direction off. The route follows more of the direction than the canal itself but it still makes a long days walk across southern England.

Wey and Arun Canal

The Wey and Arun Canal was the connecting waterway to bring cargo south but the steam railway which runs partly next to the canal brought its demise. I thought I would walk the route as much as possible to see what was holding water or not.

The final actual day of the trail as I walk inland to the Cape. What an amazing adventure over the two weeks and yet I had to get back home. If I’m honest the trail had its ups and downs and I covered every one of them 🤣 www.justgiving.com/page/michael-holmes-1712257577609?Fmichael-holmes-1712257577609&Link&

Things are getting close to the finish but never say it’s nearly over. The knee injury I sustained earlier is now playing up and locking my knee. The terrain isn’t helping and it’s hard to film and comment when you know you are walking on a knife edge. What comes first RUclips or finishing. www.justgiving.com/page/michael-holmes-1712257577609?Fmichael-holmes-1712257577609&Link&

A lovely section of greenbelt walking ,well captured as always mike 👍
Thank you. It’s one of those walks that keeps surprising as it’s a mix bag of styles rather than just a tow path. My knee still isn’t 100% from the tear but I still need to get out there 😁
@@madmikesworld5713 speedy recovery 👍
@Upinthills68 thank you
GREAT VIDEO MICHAEL. YOURS FRED
Thank you. Hope you enjoy them all
A bit of a different walk for you mike, well captured thanks for taking us along 😊
Certainly is different I agree but sometimes what’s on your doorstep gets missed and yet others come to your doorstep 😁
Hi Mike. What a beautiful walk. I do love a countryside canal walk, especially one so quiet as that. Just a great way of submersing yourself in nature. Thanks for taking us a long. All the best mate.
Part two will be up soon for you to enjoy and thank you for watching
Glad the sticky icky eyes are better now, boss, those Brazilian rhubarb plants are huge!
lol yes they are indeed.
Thanks for pointing me in the direction of your account, Mike. I'm really enjoying seeing such beautiful scenery. At one point the clouds seem as if they are taking a rest upon the hills. I'm off to watch some more......
Really pleased you are enjoying them, spread the word.
Congratulations! I bailed out of Crib Goch 3 times so far due to weather change, hopefully next year I get lucky 😊
Always best to stop before things get silly and what could have been an adventure turns into a rescue. On my Cambrian Way videos I also had to pull out with two days to go due bad weather but came back later in the year to complete. We hear so many times the mountains will be waiting and it’s so very true that they are. Next week it’s going to be very dry so would make perfect timing if you can go for it.
great vid Mike , shame you got the mountains name wrong , oh well
You mean Yr Wyddfa rather than Snowdon.
@@madmikesworld5713 diolch, sorry to be a stickler but i was a warden for many years situated at Pen Y Pass ,
Nothing wrong with being a stickler. I did wonder about using the Welsh name but I’m not sure it’s as well known as Snowdon but I’m sure it will be eventually.
@@madmikesworld5713 well that's the beauty of free speech in't it Mike , it's definitely not going to help you gain more interest with its original name , and that's a good reply from you, all the best
When was this recorded?
I walked it last weekend in what was an amazing day.
@@madmikesworld5713 Nice! We're going next weekend, hopefully the weather's nice!
Have a great adventure. It’s not as bad as people make out and because people use GoPros to film that create a distorted image the arête can look worse than what it is. The climb up what I show as not as steep as it looks is just that. It does look worse than it is but it caution is still needed but you are soon off it. It really is a great walk.
Beautiful landscape and scenery. you’d be welcome to walk around the Peak District. Love the welsh jagged mountains and a nice commentary from yourself. Keep it up 🏔️
Great around Edale I must admit and was the start of my pennine way
the pristine blue lakes of snowdonia and Smokey mountains is very tempting. We do have lots of scenic places, great for walking and camping ⛺️. From the peaks to the Yorkshire Dale and valleys all the north onwards to 🏴
@shahidkhan-kt1ol have you watched my other videos? I have just finished the Cape Wrath Trail in Scotland and there is a few in the dales plus the three peaks 😁
HI Mike, thank you for taking us along on your Cape Wrath journey. I have loved every minute of watching your adventures. Many many congratulations. Is your just giving page still open. I would like to make a donation. All the very best mate.
I think it has closed now. It was a journey I maybe doing again but on a different route.
Nice one Mike not been courageous enough to do the crib route yet. Done. The others and still not seen the view 😂😂.
Think this week it’s been ideal for taking in the view 😊. Saying that I set off in ideal conditions but it did cloud over but cleared later.
Well captured Mike and thanks for taking us with you 👍I've been up snowdon 3 times but not that way , and I certainly haven't picked my days for good weather either 😂
It really is a special way to go up but only in good weather. Snow doesn’t count as that’s special in its own way but not in the rain. One day when I’m really old I might go by the train but those days I hope are a long way in the future. 😁
Another great video 🎉. If you hadn't said Mordor, I would have. No way I would have taken that path. I'd have turned round before the first scramble. The drops and heights pull at my feet just watching. It's a shame. Born in Grasmere, grown up on a mountain in alpine Bavaria, I've now lived too long in flat country 😢. So I binge watch my mountain walking favourites 😊 What I'd like to know, is the train a cogwheel train like the one up the Zugspitze? Not really important though. Just asking. When you're "too old" and if I'm still alive I'll come with you on a trainride up Snowdon. Should be fun. 😊 Take care Elvira
@medievalladybird394 yes it is a cog wheel. The heights I must admit are mesmerising but always walk safely on that ridge.

Brilliant Mike…..nearly there mate! ⛰🥾🏕️🏴
Hi Mike. Many people talk of the Knoydart area being the best part of the CW. Like you I think Assynt is just a special special place, the landscape is just something else. So rugged.
Hi Mike, stunning mate, that otter obviously does not miss a trick, fishing in the river that gives him wonderful Scottish fresh salmon! Haha
As much as it would have been nice to see the iconic Shennaval Bothy, i'd have done the same as you. Enjoy the peace and tranquility of the amazing surroundings.
Hi Mike, absolutely stunning mate, the shear beauty of the landscape is mind blowing! 😀⛰🥾🏴
That day was hard. Beautiful without doubt but the route was brutal.
We all found ourselves having pizza and beer and all agreed, never that route again.
@@madmikesworld5713 Haha, been there, seen that, got the blisters! 🤣
Blimey there was a right party going on in the Bothy that night! 🤣🤣
😁
Hi Mike, brilliant mate, what stunning scenery. That stretch along Loch Hourn looks an absolute brute. I see right near the end your were sat with Charles from Back out there? 😀⛰🥾🏴🏕️
Yes came across Charles on his second attempt after a few days. Due to the nature of the walk and route we kept bumping into each other along the way. I mostly walked solo but at the end of the day 7 of us would stay roughly in the same location. Even at the end even though we set off at different times and took different routes we all finished at the Cape together.
I know people camp before that final path and there is a brilliant camping spot along that path with an amazing view. It’s not really tough but after a days walking it pulls on your feet due to the rough ground. I new the cafe was going to be open and I did go for it to get there with plenty of time 😁
@@madmikesworld5713 Haha, the thought of getting in to that cafe would have been great to keep you going. It’s the simple things like that on a long distance hike!
I didnt know before I set off if I would make it as it was closed the following day. Things just fell into place for the whole journey. I know how lucky I was with the weather gods. The coast to coast RUclips has a different story to tell if you watch that one.
@@madmikesworld5713 I said to Charles how lucky he was with the weather. I’ll get round to watching them mate. I did the Cumbria Way earlier this year, proper looked out with the weather the first week in May. 😃
Hi Mike Just came across your channel. Really looking forward to watching your Cape Wrath adventure. All the best mate Dave ⛰😀🥾🏕️🏴
Thank you. Hope you enjoy the other routes I’ve done in my own way.
Cauliflower butterflies in making 🎉
Beautiful farm and lovely animals, so nice to see them all living peacefully on the land with the beautiful sky.
Thank you, and everyone will stay to enjoy I hope their long lives.
I've loved watching your CWT videos and itching to do it now. Daft question: how did you navigate your way?
I downloaded the route onto OS maps which is all I needed to use on the walk. I would recommend getting maps of areas if you are unsure.
Another good one mate, great detail, great filming 👍
Thank you. I did think I went on a bit lol
@@madmikesworld5713 I think it's that detail which makes the difference from 'just another' walk filmed
@@HomesteadFrance thank you
Nice job Mike.
Thank you
Great vid Mike as always thanks for taking us along 👍
My pleasure. It was really a surprising walk which I hope I got that over.
Cheers Mike, thoroughly enjoyed. I'll return to these later in year after buying guide and maps, hope ok to ask questions if any arise.
Always willing to help.
@@madmikesworld5713 Thank you.
Hi Mike, just binged watched these following your recommendation on the C2C Facebook page. Wow. What a physical and emotional rollercoaster of an adventure. Unbelievable perseverance and determination.
Thank you. I never thought at the start when I said, warts and all it would actually be warts and all. A true roller coaster of emotions I’ll confess.
Thank you so much ! The pics and your detailed description help me a lot with the planning for my upcoming trip

Wow! What an amazing place. Makes me want to be there! So so beautiful. Thanks for sharing. Mx
Hope you enjoy all the walking videos 😁
I am making my way through them. Absolutely love the cattle. 😊
Great series of your adventure on the Cape Wrath... would love to try it. Donated 👍
It really is one of those trails that does have everything and more. I confess I was lucky with the weather but I did carry the kit for that what happens moment. 😁. Thank you for donating to such an amazing cause.
Well done Mike Great achievement I got a email today from Scottish m r for my donation, well done again. Richard.😊
Thank you so very much.
Beautiful series of videos Mike. Hope you've got over the 'sickness' now. So..... where is next? 😊👍🏻 Thanks for sharing.
Yep clear of the bug that would fell a giant 😁. My knee is my only worry as I’ve a 100km non stop in September to do. I was looking at Camino ingles.
Another incredible journey and another outstanding achievement.
Thanks for chronicling your journey Mike, music and camera work hit the sweet spot. Few pennies donated. Best wishes.
Very much appreciated. As you can imagine I’ve been busy with work after getting back but I’m getting on with creating a route video.
@madmikesworld5713 Look forward to that map. Curious as to what the black badge was on your shirt. Any kit unhappy with?
@ericthearfaviking7579 the badge is TOG24 a Yorkshire clothes manufacturer. Because I’ve used the kit on other long distance walks I should say all was ok but it wasn’t. The tent let me down and so did the air bed. I shall cover kit issues soon.
What a beach, soundtrack as per 👌
hello, can i ask how much your pack weight was at the start?
I never weighted my pack and never have as I put in what I need. I’ve been asked this a few times now so I will repack and find the answer.
Im really enjoying these videos deserve more views
I cannot agree more but you know how RUclips can be. I guess more sharing and thumbs up can help direct people to them.
Haha Falcon ridge. Did you find Falcon Crest as well? Never too early for a beer while on holiday
I gave up naming things in the end 🤣
Well done Mike , sterling effort !
Thank you
Great vid as always cheers Mike 😊👍
Thank you.
Congratulations Mike and well done on the fundraising. 🙏 I enjoyed every video and nice to get a glimpse into Mad Mike’s world your an interesting character. I got to the MOD fence with my dad and brother and the flag was flying low visibility and raining. I said Dad we shall have to turn back he said Fuck that I’ve come all this way we are going on regardless. We were the first people that year on the trail to arrive at the Ozone cafe. Again thanks and yep I wonder what’s next for you. ATB 🍻
There is something in the pipeline but I will need a new tent ⛺️ for it 😎☺️
Well done mate. Truly enjoyed your wee videos
Well done buddy. Its nice to see people truly appreciating my wee country even though everyone destroys the gaelic names
