Originating in MEL or SYD? As a six year old flew with my mum in 1988 from MEL to ATHENS via Bangkok. The layover turned into a delay. Remeber not getting much sleep at all that night in the airport. After departing Bangkok, there was another (refueling) stop in the daytime.

I used to holiday around the old airport with my family. Many times watching the wonderful OA B747 take off and land. I used to fly JFK-ATH-JFK every year when i was a kid. Wonderful memories. Thank you 😊

Ζυλεύω που δεν υπάρχουν πια πτήσεις από Αθήνα σε Μπανγκόκ, Τόκιο και Σεούλ. Ακόμη και η Aegean Airlines αν και είναι Star Alliance, τι κάνει η εταίρια; Βαριούνται να βάζουν μακρινές διαδρομές? Η απλά δεν έχουν λεφτά να κάνουν τέτοιες διαδρομές; Αν και ήταν αυτό. Οι άλλες ασιατικές εταιρίες (Εκτός Turkish και Air China) Star Alliance, τι κάνουν ακριβώς; Να πήγαινουν σε μέρη όπως Ρόμη, Φρανκφούρτη, Βρυξξέλες, Κωσταντινούπολη, Ελσίνκι, Βιέννη, Παρίσι, Ζυρίχη και όχι σε εμάς; Ε αν είναι δυνατόν! Δεν έπρεπε να κλείσει η Ολυμπιακή. Πάντως για το βίντεο, πολύ καλό.

Harilaos Koumaras there is an error in your opening text of this video. In 1993, Don Mueang airport code was BKK, NOT DMK. The Don Mueang airport code changed to DMK in 2006 when the new Bangkok International Airport Suvarnabhumi opened. So, in September 2006 Suvarnabhumi became BKK and Don Mueang became DMK.

Back when our beloved Olimpiaki Aeroporia carried the Greek flag all over the world. I didn’t appreciate her till she was gone.

I'm watching this video *again* and although I don't speak Greek, I think I recognized one sentence that comes up a couple of times: "kalí chroniá" (Happy New Year), which would make sense given the timestamp on the video (December 29, 1994).

Flights to Bangkok? Tokyo? Wtf? How many greeks actually had money to travel to Tokyo and Bangkok? Yeah i know. They all used travellers'cheques and credit cards or they were friends,koubaroi, relatives. No wonder the airline folded. Unprofitable routes and trips to nowhere's land, filled with friends, relatives and koubaroi who got on for free. Olympic Airways an airline that COULD have had an illustrious aviation career only problem was... it was run by greeks. Remember the formula for success. Koubaroi,relatives,friends or KRT+ Bankruptcy. Let's do the mathematical equation. KRT=B

Friendly with the crew? Olympic Airways had one of the worst staff in all of aviation. Completely rude, entitled a-holes. That's what happens when a country has 90% of its workforce in the public sector. No wonder the airline went bankrupt. You can thank the structural organization of it and the favors done to relatives and koubarous.

I also remember the meals served on the long haul flights on the 747's from Australia ; it included either seafood salad or smoked trout as a starter, then the main dish and some sort of cake for dessert ; it was always tasty and always something to look forward to

I was surprised to hear Japanese on the announcements, and then saw that the flight is Bangkok and Tokyo. It's too bad there is no longer flights to Greece from Japan. Would love to visit Greece again!

I flew with Aegean airlines from Athens to Bucharest as well. I live in Vienna and I’ve flown with many companies from vienna to Bucharest and back, but none of them was as good as Aegean airlines.

I suspect that the visit to the technical base was to verify the serviceability of the water/methanol injection system!
