DIY Cassette Tape Delay Echo Effect Pedal PART 1: Schematic and basics of how it works

Here is the first video in the series for my DIY open source Cassette Delay effect. Overview of the schematic and how the thing works.
Cassette Tape Delay Echo Effect Pedal - DIY Open Source, Compact, and Inexpensive
Просмотров 5 тыс.8 месяцев назад
My goal for this is to create an inexpensive, compact, DIY pedal/effect that anyone can make that has a clean enough signal to almost rival the space echo's with 1/4 inch tape. Not an easy task I know, but I think the results are pretty good. I want to milk the cleanest possible quality out of the tiny cassette fingerprint so it can be used as a legit delay and not just a fun special effect. Th...

    slight addition, that pot on the lm386 board is not gain, but volume. the gain is fixed on those modules. sorry for being a nerd. 😊

    "but I bet the log type could work better for audio applications" this is true for the volume pots, but not for the speed and repetition ones.

    I am a bit lost on the schematic to be honest... Maybe you can put little arrows (indicator) on the lines so that we can understand the direction of the signal ?

    I wonder if there's a head that uses the entire 1/8" tape width. The problem with cassettes is that there's 4 tracks on the tape, so a single mono signal is only using 1/32".

    • @granitsky63
      @granitsky63 7 месяцев назад

      I agree, it would be great to use the entire width of the tape. Do the space echo's do that? Anyway, the tracks have individual outputs on the back of the tape heads and I wanted to play around with that, mixing them together and using all the real estate we can

    for a cheap play head you can just get a car cassette to line out adapter, they're just a read head attached to a 3.5mm jack.

    • @granitsky63
      @granitsky63 7 месяцев назад

      Wow that's a really great idea, those can be had very cheaply, I bet it's a good bet if you just need one. who knows how good the quality is but it's definitely worth a try

    There is a way you can turn the tape into a loop so it just keeps looping instead of going reel to reel, might be cool to do that, so you never run out of tape
