On November 3, 1959, the fifty-sixth anniversary of the US-backed Panamanian revolt against Columbia that resulted in US control of the canal project, Aquilino Boyd's Panamanian Nationalist Party launched protests against American control of the canal. The film shows the protests, riots, and the military response of the US Canal Zone government, which sought to contain and end the demonstrations and violence. Panamanian political interviewees include Boyd, former Panamanian president Arnulfo Arias, and President Roberto Francisco Chiari, who was president at the time the film was produced.
