Delivery trip of a harryproa
I think shes for sale again think i saw an ad last week.
@@VIJAYzk yes for sale again with new sails and other improvements
terrible audio and camera work
09:58 Does anyone know which boat is that?
Nice boat( I think🤔) but horrible camera work, I got dizzy trying to see what the heck was there.. Also, what was that thing sticking out in the starboard transom, looked like another outboard🤔
I'm a Arapahoe Indian and want to get into the biz with you.
Isn't that more of a wing sail rather than a junk rig?
I think it is a bi plane junk rig wing sail combination. Designed by the original owner builder
@@MrTomooh Okay, bi plane junk rig wing sail--I didn't know that was a thing. I lived on a Chinese junk--made in Hong Kong in the 50s--for five years. It's cool--I just didn't know it was considered a junk rig.
Печальное зрелище!!!
Beautiful and full off style boat !!! Love the Juk rig !!!
What sort of speed will it cruise at?
Hi that trip was at around 7 to 8 knots in fairly light winds another day with more wind was around 10 knots. Probably 12 would be as fast as I have sailed it so far
Very interesting. It looks like this is sailing as an Atlantic proa for part of the way.
yes he says he's sailing it on the atlantic tack because he didn't want to shift the autopilot (which includes a jury rig tiller made from a oar lashed on to the rudder)
Paper map. My kinda people.
Ha a 1970s road map even
Significant coolness in this boat.
Hi Mr. Tomooh. I am the designer of the original catamaran. I am busy making a new video concerning my designs. Can I please use parts of your video?
Yes of course and thanks you have some great designs
I should have bought that boat when it was for sale. I wonder where it is now..
Last i saw it was in Panmure but maybe moved now. Was a good simple boat and sailed really well
i like your outboard XD. Oryx is for sale again. guessing there is something about her people don't like. any ideas?
Hi the builder was a small guy and built it to suit his size for headroom. I and the current owner are over 6 ft which can be uncomfortable if you are living aboard mainly in the saloon
Boat - nice. Video-operator - sucks.
May want to retitle this one--actually "sailing" the proa takes up less than half the video.
Crap camera work, crap editing....
Can’t argue with that
Any video of inside the hulls?
I think there are some still shots in one of the videos. Basically there are 2 big double bunks and a long galley bench running along the hull The lee hull is only storage
The green catamaran at the end is Oryx built by Pete hill to a modified bernt Kohler design. I have a couple of clips of sailing on it when I owned it
Lovely boat just wish it had the Tiki wingsail rig
I have never sailed the wharram wingsail rig so can’t compare except that when I sailed beside another t 38 with that rig and I was on this boat I was pointing higher and sailing faster with one reef in even though they had full sail. My boat was also heavier judging by the waterline. I have always just been happy with whatever rig the boat has when I buy it.
Still got a little bit of work to do on the boat ( that's standard)
I love this boat specially the sails
Hi plenty of room to sit down at the toilet as well as a holding tank and room for some storage.
Hi love the design of this proa. Can you make video showing the head? How big is it in that proa?
Beauty find! Fair sailing!
@Mr. Tomooh. I am looking to build a tiki 46 and retiring on it. I have heard the wharram catamarans “talk” to you under sail from the sounds they make almost as if the boat has a soul. Do you find that the case with yours? Cheers sir😊
fmagalhaes1521 well it was noisy when I was in the bow cabin from waves but the rest of the boat was okay. Don’t believe they have a soul but if you build it well and carefully it will look after you. Think about reducing chances of rot in all the timber by keeping it well sealed.
Would you have another Bi-rig Junk rig. I'm looking at building one
Hi I didn’t have it long but for a cat that size I would be happy with one mast. I like the free standing masts with no rigging to break or replace but it seemed twice the effort to put up and put away two mains and you needed to always use both. I have had a light 46 cat with sloop rig good batten cars on the main and a furling Genoa. This was fast and very easy to operate. So yes I would have another bi rig cat if I bought it cheap but wouldn’t choose to build one and would probably have preferred a standard rig on Oryx I missed the central boom for hanging shade from and found at times working on the 2 booms was very close to the edge of the boat. I would consider a single mast set further back with 2 or 3 furling headsails and no main for easy sailing.
Did it sell then?
abdabzeebop2 yes sold about a month ago and new owner very happy
Sorry I thought that last question was about Oryx. I bought Aroha the Harryproa earlier this year and will be refurbishing her ready for sailing holidays this summer
@@MrTomooh Good to know it went to an appreciative new owner. I take it the survey was good then?
abdabzeebop2 sorry I was confused. I bought Aroha and will refurbish her over winter. Didn’t get a survey done as I was happy to use my own experience and be prepared to do some repairs. Seems to be structurally strong
@@MrTomooh Something went wrong there, I wrote on here that I did mean Oryx, but for some reason nmy comment hasn't appeared.
Now sold
This is a very nice catamaran what is the asking price.
Hi sorry sold oryx last month around 65000 new zealand
Nice. Thanks for sharing the video. Nie to see her sailing.
Will be nice and shiny again next summer
Nice video. I am thinking about building the latest C50 design. Good to see the older design, even with a rough finish, is still sailing along. Looking forward to seeing her clean-up and summer sailing.
Thanks for posting this I really like the newer Harryproa designs. I happy to see a older design is still out there and looking solid. Please post more once this pandemic is over. Really surprised to see sail her wrong way around!
M. SS pulling out of water for winter and some maintenance but will do some more sailing and videos over summer once the boat is all tidied up. Seems to go just as well sailing the wrong way.
@@MrTomooh I was confused by that, as the boom swings into reverse, and whatever way it pulls should be good enough.
Great boat. Would be nicer video with a little more steady camera work though.
Thanks yes I am not the best camera man with my phone.
It all about resisting the temptation to constantly swing and pan the camera around like you are high on meth & cocaine . Remember ppl clicked to see the boat ... We've seen water , tarps , and winches before . Slowly and steadily show the unique rig, and how it works ....keeping something useful in frame ....
i am trying to contact you. I am not from NZ so trademe will not allow me access to register to send you an email there. Kevin@putmanlake.com please.
hi, i am unable to open your dropbox pictures. Please send them to audiovoice888@gmail.com . I am interested.
Nice boat!

single mast ?
Hi yes a fairly standard modern sloop rig. Performance is a little better than the wing sail sloop rig that is on the plans.
Well done Dave. Will be good to see some material of the new boat too sometime.
Waughthog Waugh thanks should get that one in the water after Xmas and will try to put something up of sailing with the junk rig
Just saw this boat turn up in Porirua. Thanks for the vid!
I like the artistic sun sets and victory salute making it up the boat race 👍
Thanks it was a pretty hard paddle in against the wind
The beams are glassed instead of lashed? Bad bad bad
Karl Topfer hard to have an informed opinion when you have never seen or sailed on the boat.We have just completed 600 miles sailing and no movement at all in the beam to hull joins. My opinion is that it is good good good but it is just my opinion
MrTomooh no movement is exactly the problem. Wharram designed the lashed beam-to hull connections exactly to be flexible. I guess if you would happen to get into really bad weather and big waves and wind on your head they might fail because they are glued instead of being lashed
Karl Topfer certainly a possibility if it was not done correctly, the strength in this design modification from the plans is it is not relying only on the beam joints to stay together, but is more of a monocoque construction between the 3 main beams much like most modern cruising boats. Quite a few Wharram’s have been modified in this way, I am unsure if any have failed.
MrTomooh thank you. I have to admit I have no personal real life experience with Wharrams, but I am studying them for a while now, dreaming of building my own.
Yeah nice boat! The beauty of a wharram is it,s an empty canvas. You can arrainge the space the way your ideas take you.
Hi. Still for sale ? vlogliveaboard@gmail.com
Interesting but please next time slow down on the camera movements...
I'm having a headache right now!
Where is this boat located Dave? What do they want for it?
bethells86 hi it was in Fiji but has now been sold and I helped to deliver it to New Zealand with the new owner
