Lombard Log Hauler
Просмотров 6 тыс.Год назад
Donny Johnson's 1925 diesel Lombard driving around over the years at the antique tracked vehicle shows. In the first clip, someone had filled the PistenBully 400 DEF tank with diesel before it got to the show, so it would not run, so we used the Lombard to move it out of the way. The other clips had the Lombard pulling the empty bunks that would hold the logs to be hauled out of the woods.

I see you have a S-Model Carrier as well I always liked the way they looked. Had 25 units plus tons of parts. All desolved now. Some track parts grousers.backing plates.Kept one for myself. M5 took the 3 man cab off and put a single man cab on it. Has 3 attachments. Blade/post pounder/back hoe/ log splitter. They served me well. That for sharing 👍

The guy that restored the diesel Lombard in the video was also a part of the restoration of a steam Lombard at Clarks Trading Post in Woodstock, NH.

there is another channel that has 2 of these in northern manitoba. His channel is "king of obsolete"

I believe the King of Obsolete has Lynn tractors, which are very similar to Lombards, but the owner of this Lombard also has 2 Lynn tractors.

Wonderful machine, love this sort of thing. Where is this? New England states? Michigan?

Hi Bryan, this Lombard is located in New Hampshire. Generally log haulers in Michigan are going to be a Phoenix, since Lombard Log Haulers were produced in Maine (and that would a long drive).

@@dirtdesignsnh Thanks for the info. I grew up in Bozeman, Montana when they were still logging in the Gallatin National Forest north of Yellowstone Park. I don't recall seeing any historical pictures or literature mentioning machines of this type were used in Montana, in that era. I do know, during the high water weeks of May and June, logs were floated down the Gallatin River to mills in the Gateway and Central Park towns. ( Central Park was located on the West Gallatin River in the middle of the Gallatin valley, between Belgrade and Manhattan.) I believe logs were mostly hauled to the mill on trucks during the summer, with loggers laying off during the winter months. After WWII, the processes changed quite a bit. A good book on the subject (although written of practices in Oregon) is "Gypo Logger" by Mary Shelley Felt. Thanks for posting the wonderful video.

Nice, brings back memories. We used to have a fleet of Muskegs with dump bodies on them and a fleet of J-5's as well. They were used in bogs of peat humus cause they were about the only vehicle that wouldn't sink or get stuck. Great dependable machines.
