Fishing in Tokyo Part 1: Monster Sea Bass
Wow these bream are huge! I know I might be a bit late to the party. But I’m really hoping you still check these comments 🤞 I was wondering what charter this was as I’ll be travelling to Japan in a few months and was hoping to find a good Black Sea Bream charter! Thanks mate and we’ll done on these epic catches
Ay no problem, this charter is called seakuro and you can find their contact info if you google their name. They do speak some English so don't worry to much haha
I’ll be in Tokyo in march staying by kita-senju station if you wanna go fishing
Nice fish buddy
cool looks like a bass! take me fishing bro❤
Very helpful video! I'm going to Tokyo in 2 weeks and I'm really eager to try for seabass again. Would lures like megabass x80 and rapala xrap/husky jerk work well? They're what I mainly use for largemouth and snook here in the US so I'm wondering if they'll work there too.
If you're fishing daytime I'd recommend metal lipless baits for cast range and to trigger a reaction and slow retrieving ur jerkbait at night
Hi, Lutjanus! i'm visiting tokyo in november, and i'm hoping to wet some line while out there. i was wondering if you could recommend a few bodies of water to do some luring in the city, preferably freshwater (but also willing to try saltwater provided i don't need to go out on a boat). i'm from the states, but am currently living in singapore pulling up peacock bass. i've gone to biwako for LMB and had some pretty good sessions there last year. hoping to find something in tokyo! would love to connect somehow and pick your brain!
seakuro?
Been fishing a couple times around Urayasu since I arrived here and was wondering why I couldnt seem to catch any sea bass. Used to fishing in the US on clear sunny days and catching bass no problem. Been seeing alot of dead carp(look to be carp) in the riverways here.
Thank you!
Great session 👌 some hard fighting bream amongst them 🎣
it will be very good season for small mouth soon! Tama river too there is smally. you made me want to try smally for the first time! I will try at tama river! thank you!
I hope you have better luck than me! Haha
@@MetalJigRebirth I have caught first small bass of my life in Tama river!!! The Tama river place is peaceful to fish. If you are comfortable, I would like you to invite here and do the fishing together and film the footage. If you are not living far from Tama though,,,
@@Tamazonch Sounds good! I'll dm you!
Is that lure an Ayu imitation?
Its a ayu color but I was just trying to imitate the forage there lol
Loved this video! It is an incredible guide. Am currently in Tokyo and tried fishing for seabass during the day. Only saw one and was wondering what I was doing wrong. It is good to know that I should be trying at night. How big of a lure is optimal for the metro rivers in Tokyo? And how deep should I be fishing at night? Any lures you would recommend? Thanks!
Since it's spring, post spawn seabass are migrating from the ocean upstream to rivers to feed so river mouths and river would be your best bet right now. If you're fishing during the day, I would recommend targetting structures/bridges (any area with shade) with soft plastic minnows or lipless vibes. Keep lure sizes small as seabass during spring feed on "microbait" aka tiny krill, squid and baitfish. At night you can use bigger lures, but keep the retrieve dead slow as the fish aren't in full aggressive mode in spring. You'll see a bunch of weird pencil looking lures in tackleshops; those are meant to imitate ragworms which are another main bait for spring seabass. You can use those too with the same dead slow retrieve. Good luck out there, it aint easy fishing from shore haha
To answer your question, 4cm to 10cm lures for all seasons, 10-20cm for fall, fish deep during the day and fish shallow at night. Lipless cranks, soft plastic minnows, swimbaits, jerkbaits should cover most of ur needs
@@MetalJigRebirth Thanks for the tips! Really helpful info. I went out to Shinagawa, the Tennozu Isle cannals last night and payed attention to the conditions to make sure they were optimal like you described (night time, cloudy, slightly windy, tide going out). About 30 minutes after sunset I started seeing tons of fish jumping out of the water. There were some small silvery fish that looked pretty long and narrow. I guessed that there might be some predatory fish like sea bass that were pushing them to the surface? Not sure - but I tried casting towards them with 4 cm jerkbaits, neon yellow soft plastic worms, paddle tails, lipless cranks, poppers, whopper ploppers, and spoons but wasn't able to get any sea bass bites. I went out before seeing your comment so I think was fishing everything too fast. It is good to know that the retrieve needs to be dead slow. Do you completely kill the motion (retrieve pause) or do you just keep up a constant slow slow retrieve? It is also good to know that at night I should be fishing high in the water column at the surface. I did try bouncing a soft plastic on the bottom with a lift drop technique but didn't get anything on that either. It is also interesting to learn that they are feeding on microbait. I did see a lot of tiny shrimp everywhere. I think the carp are also spawning, there were some big fish making heavy rolls at the surface (or were those sea bass)? I was able to catch two fish that had a yellow back using a spoon retrieved quickly at the surface: they weren't very big but they were very pretty. I believe they were Japanese horse mackerel. Anyhow, for tonight I will try to make the adjustment to fish much slower. I think I will stop by the tackle shop to pick up one of those pencil lures you mentioned. I also wonder if I should be exploring further upstream from the bay? The Tennozu Isle canals are still pretty close to the bay and I wonder if the sea bass are further up now. Anyhow - Tokyo's waterways are absolutely beautiful right now, lined with cherry blossoms. I've been having an amazing time exploring the city through fishing. Thank you for your part in making this such a good experience!
@@powangy Yeah just a slow constant drift. Deadsticking ur bait and letting it drift downstream also works. I'd explore upstream too
@@MetalJigRebirth I went to Joshuya and picked up one one of those stick baits (80 mm) that you recommened also a lipless minnow that the store worker suggested for sea bass. First off, Joshuya was an incredible experience. Japan has amazing fishing lures and I love that shop. The prices are pretty crazy compared to how much lures cost in the US but the craftmanship seems for the most part, superior so that makes sense. I went out to the Tamagawa river at night to target Suzuki. Didn't catch any throwing under a bridge but I somehow hooked into an amur catfish which put up a pretty great fight. I've been exploring the Sumida river around Tsukishima in Tokyo for the past two nights. There's a lot of people fishing there so maybe I finally found a good spot. One friendly fisherman saw that I was throwing a lipless crank and he told me that suzuki are not yet eating small fish and that they are still eating ragworms until end of April. He suggested that I throw the pencil lure until then. So last night, I went back to that area and only threw the pencil lure all night using a constant, dead-slow retreive. Hooked into a nice fish and thought it was a Suzuki. After landing it, I realized it was not. It had a black back and silver belly with a downward facing mouth (around 46 cm). I think it was a Bora... had no idea these things ate ragworms, thought they mainly ate algae. Tokyo has been tons of fun to explore through fishing. There's clearly tons of people who are interested in fishing here and the Tsukishima region, especially the inner cannals are incredibly beautiful to fish. The Suzuki still eludes me though! I might have to go with the fishing charter that you talked about haha. Who is your go to guy in Tokyo and how much do they charge? Thanks! Also, do you ever go to the used tackle shops in Tokyo (Tackle Berry)? Is it a good shop? I am trying to find the IMA Calm 80 lure, since I heard that is a sea bass slayer but I don't think they are in production anymore. Hoping I might be able to find it at Tackle Berry.
this was SUPER helpful, thank you. I got overwhelmed when I went into the fishing shop in Okinawa.
Where can I fish for halibut around Tokyo? Are there any good beach around?
Tokyo is not really known for halibut/flatfish as they are pretty rare in tokyo. You can try kanagawa or ibaraki which are pretty well known for huge flatfish from the beach (via lure)
Nice video 📹☺
Hi, Im hoping to go there in July next year. Im going to take a rod with me. Is there good land based access to these spots? Looks like a decent drop to the water, not great without a really long landing net. I looked up rainbow bridge, if there are any other spots you would recommend please let me know. Thanks 🤙Subbed
Thanks! Spots around toyosu and Disneyland are pretty decent. If you go to tackleshops like joshuya, they can also provide you a map with areas where you can fish and whatnot
@@MetalJigRebirth Perfect! Thank you so much!
Amazing Seabass! Congrats! I live and fish in Tokyo and surrounding areas. Hit me up if you need a fishing partner sometime!
Where is this at?
Hi, can these be caught from piers and jettys, and what lure do you use? Cheers
Yup! A little tough to catch them during colder months though. Blade baits, lipless cranks and soft plastics will work great
cool looking fish
nice catches my guy
What prefecture was this if you don't mind me asking? Trying to get an idea of the type of fishing I can do when I move to Iwakuni later this year. Great video by the way!
Thanks, this is the tokyo prefecture
@@MetalJigRebirth thank you sir!
What lures do you recommend for urban seabass fishing?
couple of slow floating jerk baits, lipless cranks and fluke style soft plastics and you're good to go!
Biiig
How do you like this rod so far? Im considering getting this but dont know the difference between this and the Dialuna.
Nice bro
I just moved to Yokota air base 2 weeks ago and i love fishing so much. If you are ever willing to teach or take a friend out let me know! Love the content btw
No that's proper sea bass fishing. Great fish and great fight.

Nice catch bro, I live in Tokyo and would like to try fishing. Is it possible to go with you once to any river? cause i am complete beginner
Very dark compared to european seabass
cool! many species!! i want to catch flathead too!! never even seen so far though. .
Yeah, they are pretty hard to catch around Tokyo! I've heard you can catch them around Haneda airport in the shallow areas though
You need fishing license in japan? How much is the license? Thank you
nope no license needed
I just caught my first ever saltwater fish including sharks they fight amazingly!
Nice👍🎣...i subscribed to your channel..good luck!
Great video, thank you. In the UK I enjoy fishing for Seabass with lures. We mainly use hard plastic jerkbait lures and wobbly soft plastic worm/eel style lures. The lure you were using looked like a springy plastic and very life like, can you tell me what make it is please?
Berkley gulp
Hi, do there sea bass bite on lures only and are they edible from Tokyo waters ( pollution)?
You can use live bait or ragworms too. You can eat seabass from Tokyo but I wouldn't recommend it because of pollution.
Shimano Nasci has very smooth drag
Thanks for helping me on my first fishing trip.
Anytime 😊
awaiting pt.2 - pt.20 i guess lol
The jigging rap has been deadly ever since the SG days lol
Most underrated and overlooked lure tbh
