Hey y'all! I'm Sojourner White - a remote social worker, award-winning travel journalist, and train travel queen. Hailing from Milwaukee, Wisconsin I have been a digital nomad, called Spain home as a study abroad student turned English teacher with the Fulbright Program, and spent a summer in Germany as an International Social Work graduate student intern. But now, through my platform Sojournies, I help 9-5ers fulfill their career goals and bucket list dreams to bask in freedom and flexibility outside the office.
On my channel, we talk about everything from train travel and Black solo female travel to remote work, hostels, social work, and balancing travel with a 9-5!

Midnight amtrak crescent atl to charlotte 🚂 🇺🇸 | Black-owned restaurants, art & history in charlotte
Let’s travel and eat in Charlotte! 🌻 Open for more info y’all!
My U.S train travel tour has become a food tour at this point haha! But I’m happy to share my recommendations for a solo train trip to Charlotte. After taking the night train from Atlanta, I spent the week in Charlotte. I was very tired by this point in my trip and even got a little sick one morning. So enjoy the night train experience and the food I was able to hit. We have three more train rides until the finale!!

I am new to your channel. I enjoy it so far! Quick question, I am 6ft 6in tall. Would I fit in a roomette?
How did you coordinate your luggage transfer to stay in Tequila ? I saw you did that. How do you tell them you have bags to check ?
@@elizabethcruz3990 I explained all of that in the video! And it’s also written in the guide linked in rhetorical description box
Another awesome video! Full of great sites and tips! Thank you!
Thank you so much for watching!
Really enjoyed this; thanks for sharing!!
Thank you so much and you're welcome!
You just gave me the best itinerary for the next time I visit LA! Thanks for sharing!🥰
@@CookingwithSyreetta you’re welcome! I hope you enjoy!
I’m curious. Can you lick your sleeper when you leave out? This was a great video btw!❤
@@CookingwithSyreetta I had to read this twice cause I think your autocorrect changed “lock” to “lick” 😂 but no! It only locks from the inside so I carry my valuables with me most of the time. I’ve left stuff in the room and nothing’s ever been stolen either. And thank you!
Since I have viewed your channel, I was wondering, 🤔 "Is this her 'stage' name, it's perrrrfect..." ha... that's your 'real name' this is AWESOME!! HA, now I KNOW what it's actually called, YAY!!! BRILLIANT!!!🚄🚉🚆😍😍😍😍
P.S. ...My dad named me after a French dancer/actress, and fast forward a thousand years later LOL, I am also a dancer... too crazy! Lol
Lmao yeah people think it's not my real name all the time haha but it is!
@@Sojournies 🤣🥰💯
I know this video is about the train ride, however I kept marveling at your beautiful rings and lovely hair.
Hahaha thank you!! I love playing around with colors and I loveeee jewelry
Hi, for the beach views, did you sit in the left or right side from LA?
@@rosesarerosie2016 I explained that in the video!
🎉🎉🎉🎉❤ 💯🚉🚆🚄
I made this connection with you instantly.
@@DraneaLee yaaas haha
If a train delay makes you miss your connection do they provide hotels and meals and compensation like Airlines?
@@areldia225 not normally but it depends on the train company
Love it! Thanks sis.
@@SnozBerryQueen you’re welcome!
I did this train trip in two parts back in 2015. Part one was KC (where I was living at the time and where I'm at in my picture on here) to LA, then to Emeryville(SF) via the Coast Starlight for a wedding. Then I was on the 2015 NerdTrain where we did the Seattle to Chicago Empire Builder and then I went home via the Chief. I am overdue a long-distance trip, namely doing the Coast Starlight again!
I'm not even a minute into the video and I am singing Midnight Train to Georgia...hoot hoot...LOL...okay back to the video!!!
Which month did you go?
Will you please go on the Canadian? I think it's from Vancouver to Toronto.
@@monicafreeman5289 I don’t have any plans right now but I would love to! Haha

Do mind me asking the name of the hotel you stayed at the view was just amazing? I’ve been there before but stayed on the NY side would love to take the Amtrak and stay in that hotel.

I’m interested to learn more about the sapphire plans. What do you think about it vs an actual data device?
@@janellmd it is a data device so I’m not sure what you mean? You add data via an app and connect to it via your WiFi on your phone. I’ve been using this one for over a year!
So glad you enjoyed your time in Charlotte. I recently rode the CLT to ATL route on Amtrak. Unfortunately, it was overnight both ways.
@@TraciCuthbertson yeah I think that’s only time of day which is wild to me! I gotta try some more southern routes to see if a lot of them are like that or not lol
I hope you had nice attendants. The attendants on the Crescent can be ghetto.
I recommend the Lincoln Service Missouri River Runner train route to visit Kansas City, and wine country Hermann, MO. Fellow social worker here!
@@wendymedina432 oooh thanks for the recommendation!
Can you upgrade your ticket at the last minute?
@@TravelwithElove you would have to call/ask them to know their protocol with that! I’m not sure
My girls and I are going in 2 weeks. How did you get your bags picked up from the barrel hotel? Did you call and arrange before your arrival?
@@TravelwithElove yep! That was what I explained in the beginning and recaps and tips portion of the video. Oh and I also have a written guide in the description box with a bunch of extra details too!

❤you saying Amtrak from SD to the south is still horrible. It was horrible 20 years ago. I traveled 5 times to New Orleans. Delays accidents from cars. Always something. One time from Amtrak to San Bernardo, I believe. I was in coach at night. I woke to a man sitting next to me, clinching a wire hanger. I was younger than. Now I understand the danger God saved me from. But I want to travel on Amtrak in the future. 😂
@@AdrienneHere71 whew this comment took me for a ride 😂 haha but I’m glad you’re safe and hope you enjoy your future Amtrak adventures!
Hey everyone! The U.S train tour continues through Charlotte, NC. I rested a lotttt while I was here and used this time to rejuvenate on my trip. But of course I did film my foodie finds and a few things to do in Charlotte in between working so I hope you enjoy it! And stay tuned for the last two cities: DC and NYC :)

Delay and derail are two different things, right? “The train derailed twice in KC”?!!

other advantage of the bedroom is that you have a toilet and shower in the room. :-) If you take the train southbound, crater lake would be in the daytime although iirc the train doesn't run that close to crater lake. :-)
