I feel you on sharing your writing with others, I write predominantly YA as well and it’s always so nerve wracking to share. It’s like sharing a piece of your soul which people don’t really understand if they aren’t also writing or creating art haha.
It is like sharing a piece of your soul!!
The thing with the pictures and then wanting the itemes less is super interesting to me because for me it has the opposite effect hahaha
Oh really? I feel like I need more details! Do you see the photo every day?
@raining-tulips haha no, I start off with a normal text-based wishlist, but when I put pictures in my notebook or whatever, it just solidifies the fact that I do want to own it. I have to admit I love comparing the pictures of the item while holding the item in my hands. It's a satisfying feeling like something I can work up to?🤔 No idea if that makes sense though
That makes sense! So interesting how everybody thinks and works differently
Loved it❤
Hiii new subscriber ❤
Welcome welcome!! 💕
Before this video I had no idea what people meant when they said “feel your feelings” because of course I feel them! But no, I feel how heavy they make me, not the feelings themselves. Also, your practice of giving yourself 5 more minutes before moving on from feelings or activities or tasks is brilliant! Thank you for this video 💙🌧️
Glad you got something out of it 💗 the 5 minutes took has literally changed my life
The point is to let them be as they are, without pushing them out or battling them or being drawn in them. My therapist taught me to feel them in my body (their shape, size, sensation and so on) and then breathing into them and creating sort of space for them in my body.
I love that! Such a good strategy I’ll have to try.
I love writing and creating characters and stories but I often find myself procrastinating and daydreaming about writing instead of actually doing it... do you have any tips? I'm the kind of person for whom the "write every day" advice doesn't work :/
My advice is two fold: carry notecards around and write the scenes in as much or as little as possible as you daydream them! I believe that counts as writing. Most the time you can conceal it as note taking if you’re at work or school And two, don’t pressure yourself! I daydream about my characters and scenes that won’t ever make it in the final and never even to a page! That’s creativity and that’s getting you through your day. Also, honor your personal writing cycles. Maybe you have no inspiration and then suddenly one day you can’t stop writing for a week straight (that’s how I work). When you’re ready to write then you’ll have all your notecards ready :)
You uploaded right as I got settled to paint! I don't typically plan in October, but I keep my journal really lose anyway, so not much planning goes into it. And as someone who works in an office that works with researchers, yes, please check your resources!! Doing that little extra bit is really important. Thanks for the video!
Thanks for coming back! My journal is also usually very loose and unstructured (aside from my commonplace journal which I usually use a favorite template for)
i love your intro so much
Thank you!
I really liked listening to your life stories and relating a bit to mine. I also have been going through a bit of an identity crisis myself. I work a 9 to 5 and thought I really wanted to be the go-getter, always having been one, and wanted to get to a higher position in the next few years. But then I actually got that 9 to 5 and saw just how much my manager and other supervisors really do and it has made me really think what I want out of a job. Do I want to go in early and stay late just for a little bit extra on my paycheck, you know? Also, scents are super interesting! I am not a perfume person nor do I have a trained nose, but smelling good is always nice. I'm also hunting for nice perfumes and am considering some indie brands for perfumes. I don't particularly want to leave a legacy behind, but hearing you say that makes the idea sound like a good one. Like, "Oh, this smell reminds me of Nocomni." I think that's a lovely way to lightly (?) leave an impact on people. Looking forward to the next video!
Thank you for your thoughtful comment! I’m glad I was able to resonate with at least one person 💙 I worked 1-2 days at a traditional 9-5 and quit, immediately knowing it wasn’t for me. Now I’m like, what are the options I wasn’t told about? If you come back to these videos, let me know what scents you try and if you like them! I’m starting to just like going to a store and smelling 😋
I have this notebook the quality is epic I am thrilled to see you using one ❤
Affordable and good quality!
5 years post uploading but I'm glad to have found your channel. Will be happily binging your content 🫶
I firmly believe a commonplace book definitely should take whatever form and setup works for us, even if it’s a little non-traditional - it’s like an analog extension of our brains 😌 So glad you’re feeling better about your practice!
I’ve never tried using common place as a “brain extension” but I’ve heard that definition a lot lately and will look into it!
Never heard of journaling this way, nice to know, it’s very creative :) It’s weird how we as humans take so long to make things in a more free and creative way, I think it’s hard to do it without making connections with other people, I’d probably never know this without finding your channel.
Glad you got something out of this video :) hope to see you stick around
Wow!!! I loved the thumbnail as soon as I saw it. I love watching how other people journal or fill out their notebooks, anything like that!! I love looking at people's handwriting! I ABSOLUTELY ADORE AURORA AND YOUR APPROACH TO JOURNALING! New subscriber! Do you have any preferences for pens? Nice to meet you 🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗!
Nice to meet you! Glad you discovered me and hope you stick around :) I usually stick to either a BIC pen or a pilot g-2 .5 or .7 depending on what paper I’m writing on! Super simple, super accessible, super affordable.
congrats on 1000! i find your practice inspiring, and your videos always motivate me to make time for my own commonplace, i like having your videos on in the background and drop in and out-listening to you and work on my own stuff
I cannot get over the adorableness of the little interaction of your boyfriend with your journaling things. You guys. 🥺🫶🏻
Ahahaha, I thought it was pretty sweet of him. I’ll happily share this comment with him!! Thank you for being here 💕
Glad to hear you’re doing better! ❤ Thanks for making this - super helpful as someone going through an anxious time!
We’ll get through this anxiety together 💪🏻✨
ugh, i needed this. thank you.
That Tumblr post about fairies and vampires that you talked about is hilarious because when I was about 14 I wrote half an original novel starring a fairy and a vampire falling in love (because I was obsessed with Twilight but I also loved fairies lol). Needless to say, it was AWFUL but it gives me a good laugh thinking about it. I can only think of one fantasy world that has both fairies and vampires, and it's Cassandra Clare's Shadowhunters books, which are pretty good! That said, Cassie Clare and Holly Black are good friends and Cassie actually wrote a cameo of Holly's characters into The Mortal Instruments (with Holly's permission), so I guess in theory now vampires exist in Holly Black's fairy extended universe 😂😂😂
As a lover of Holly Black that’s so cool to hear about the characters!! Also who wasn’t obsessed with twilight back then?!
So glad the algorithm randomly recommended this to me today because omg! Your commonplacing style is so beautiful, so much of what you spoke about resonated with me (documenting for future generations, minimalism, how relaxing commonplacing is), and I just love your soothing, witchy, vibes! ✨
This means a lot!! I hope you stick around when you have the time ✨🥰
@@raining-tulips I absolutely will! 🥰
Thank you SO much for this. It was a well needed pep talk. 🙏 And on the topic of the economy and market, a lot of countries around the world are still struggling to get back up after the pand3mic. I live in Sweden and I think the rest of Europe struggles as well. And we didn't even have l0ckdown and kept both workplaces and schools open but practiced keeping distance. A lot of markets are saturated and others are the opposite, it doesn't surprise me that markets that have kind of "luxury" products are saturated due to low demand right now.
ur so real for this !! sometimes if i hate a spread too much i'll just glue the pages together and pretend it never happened lol
Definitely thinking of doing that with this spread from this video!
I really liked the set up of this video (of all your videos maybe, but this is the first one I've watched), it's like a tiny podcast but with video to rest my eye on from time to time. I'm trying to figure out the difference between journaling an commonplacing. Btw I am from Sweden and I looked up the video you suggested and some time in history I apparently watched gthe frist 4-5 minutes and then stopped. I'm gonna give it another try.
So glad you liked this! To me, journaling is more of a log of your daily activities or speaking about your feelings. It is your thoughts and words. Commonplace is copying other text, book, audio, or image and possibly reacting to it.
@@raining-tulips thank you 🙏😊
Would love to see more of these silent journaling sessions with music! Very useful as a timer
meanwhile i struggle with long form writing and prefer aphorisms and poetry. also! good luck with the cross-country move- I did that last year, and it's a whirlwind. sending you good vibes!!
braiding sweetgrass is SOOOO beautiful. definitely not a book you rush through but a book that ultimately changes your life if you let it. its one of my all time favorite books.
That’s so interesting! Sometimes I think poetry and aphorisms are harder - every word has to count!
the valentine's day scratch off was so cute!!
do you write everyday? also, great vid (^^)
I don’t journal everyday but I usually write at least something everyday! Whether it’s a micro journal entry in my notes app, long journal entry, or working on one of my novels :)
I love the sounds of the birds and cicadas in the background! It's so peaceful and makes it feel like summer (which I've been missing very much lately with all the cold rainy/cloudy days we're having in my area).
I’m staring to miss spring and summer..I love winter but something about this sound makes me want it to always be dusk during summer! (Also I love your username. Waffles are life)
This is so peaceful and as a person who loves woodsy campfire scents and is writing a book, I may put a note about a character being surrounded by that smell.
blackberry rose is usually a late spring scent, but honeysuckle blooms on and off through the summer! If that fits into your books timing I say go for it!
I never use perfume but. My grandmother gave me the same perfume she used. And that bottle has so much power. I never knew my bio mother and my grandmother is the only female role model. I'll smell it when I'm having a bad day to feel better.
Aw I love that <3
Ooh I can hear the insects in the background! Reminds me of a lazy summer day. Enjoyed the video.
It was June 18th, so :) exactly that - a lazy summer day. Glad you enjoyed!
20:56 Do you draw these little pictures that you put in your journal, or are they printouts? They're super cute either way!
They’re @ spit_blossoms on Instagram or @ spitblossoms on Tumblr!
your interests are very fascinating!! new subscriber ❤
I get motion sickness bad with Minecraft too 🥲 most video games give me it eventually and I have no idea why!
I’m sorry to hear! I would recommend trying the same game on different platforms (Minecraft on Xbox doesn’t hurt as much as pc) and play with settings (no head bobbing, wider fov). Less mouse/controller sensitivity even if it makes you look like a bot 😔 which is fine for non pvp games. And never underestimate the power of a non-drowsy motion sickness pill or ginger! Get the off brand, it’s much cheaper and works just as well.
Oh! And you might try a more cartoonish / less pixelated texture pack! I think Minecraft makes me so sick because it’s so blocky and sharp and not all how the world looks. I find more flat or cartoon texture packs help too :)
ahhh i just subscribed to your channel and am so glad there's already new content to watch! i'm watching this during some quiet moments at work while i work on my own work planner.
I post weekly! Awesome you can find some quiet and peaceful moments throughout the day ✨
It's cool to hear someone else talk about nature the way I do 😁 Great video. Thanks for sharing <3
Nature >>>>>> Thanks for watching ⭐️ :)
i love the ambient music and how you started the video off with no voiceover. the basket is a great idea - awesome way to keep things simple!
Hi. Your beautiful works make me happy and excited. Thank you for sharing a good video. I subscribed, so I'll come more often.
Hi erica I really enjoyed your video, i dont know how you are not famous yet i hope your channel grows more
I really liked the beginning where you were writing without talking. It definitely gave me journaling fomo, and I had to get mine out too lol
i just got a very similar package of moleskin journals, mine are dotted though. I'm starting mu bujo and a reading journal this year, for the fist time! i watched the silent part, i don't know if i liked it, but it was kinda nice just watching. a bit relaxing for me. i also noticed you coughing a bit, hope you get better soon!
Let me know how you like yours. I thought mine were soft leather, but they’re paper…
22:01 I really like listening to people talk about whatever while they’re doing something visually interesting, just like you’re doing here! I really enjoy Katherine Karas’ journal with me videos here on RUclips for the same reason. I’m watching someone else make art/journal which always inspires me, and I also get to learn a little more about the person and their life in the process. I think maybe I would enjoy watching the writing with no voiceover in a separate video for specific occasions, like if I’m just writing, studying, reading, etc. It was nicely done, just not what I clicked on this video for, if that makes sense.
Good to know! Thank you for your feedback, it’s really helpful
hi erica :) i love your spreads, i've been following you on tumblr and came to watch your videos and i've been here for a while -- keep posting them, it's really nice to watch i skipped the silent part, personally i enjoy to listen to people talk about their stuff and i enjoyed much more the second part. i don't know, i think we, as viewers establish a connection with the people we follow, and i just enjoy to listen while i journal myself :) good luck on your moving <3 be safe
hello and welcome :) I find myself the same way...I enjoy listening to people talk as well, especially while I'm doing something else. thanks for your well wishes, I hope you stick around!
Thank you for sharing that's a great commonplace book! My commonplace is total anarchy compared to yours LOL! But it was nice to discover your vid - your handwriting BTW is actually very good and neat. I'd say don't be afraid to use different layouts - mind maps I find a good thing, also fold outs of articles. With regards printing stuff a black and white lazer printer is not a bad approach (affordable) and you may be able to print stuff out at your local library in black and white for a few cents per page (I do this some times when my toner runs out!).
Maybe i need a bit of anarchy in my spreads!! Thank you about the handwriting. My family says its difficult to read but i never think so (unless I wrote when I was tired, then its hard to read). Welcome! I hope you stick around :)
Thank you for sharing. I love your Common Place book.
I love your journaling style!!
Thank you so much!!
I commonplaced in an A6 hobonichi original in 2023, but this year I’m experimenting with an A5 Day Free! I’m excited for all the extra space, but I’ll also be carrying a field notes pocket book as an on-the-go commonplace/catch-all ☺️
Yes! I've learned that this size is my favorite size, but i'd be willing to go a tad bigger. My vera bradley notebook is about the size of a sheet of printer paper and it feels too big sometimes!
Loved this <3 It made me miss my tumblr days haha
Hi Erica, I really enjoyed this video. I too am one of those people who finds common placing relaxing and I've got something to share that's about the flora in the UK, it's a very short video but worth it - ruclips.net/video/iBe7eep0czM/видео.htmlsi=jOuUpw8p3u2j-xUm - It has sent me down a bit of a rabbit hole and that's always fun. :)
