In 1953 I was in the band at Southern. A music student with Dr Manonni, who let me play the fabulous tuba his father had designed.

By my count, there are 228 kids out there- this proud band with its rich history and tradition is a shell of it's former self. I remember it being much larger- close to 400 members no too terribly long ago.

Where is the crowd? Lack of support.

I still feel the excitement of performing with this band from Sept. '66 to May '70. As the first Afro-American to do so, it means a lot to see how far we have come in terms of race relations. "GO PRIDE"
