Gladiator II: A Worthy Sequel
Просмотров 856Месяц назад
Gladiator II was directed by Ridley Scott and is the sequel to his 2000 classic. While this film doesn't reach the lofty heights of its predecessor, it does many things well, has a lot of reverence for the original, and is visually stunning. Gladiator II stars Paul Mescal, Pedro Pascal, Denzel Washington, and Connie Nielson #gladiator #denzelwashington #pedropascal

Cobra Kai: Season 6 Part 2 was WILD (Spoiler Talk)

Theatres vs. Streaming: Competition or Coexistence?

I would say that something as simple as the term phase 'four' may have something to do with the waning interest. How long and you flog a horse till the public loses interest? And if the interest does eventually wane, then is there risk of reading too much into it. If a comparision has to be made , then why not compare like for like i.e. rrr vs the first couple of MCU movies.

Short and consise, yet very informative review of this amazing movie! I saw the stage show on West End with my mom back in 2015 so I was familiar with the story (though I figured the movie was a good way to refresh my memory as it's been a while since I saw the stage show) and they've really done a wonderful job bringing the Oz universe to the big screen. Cynthia Enrivo and Ariana Grande were both amazing in their roles as Elphaba and Glinda respectively and the latter was a positive surprise for me as I've only ever known about her as a pop singer but her acting and comedic timing was incredible and she really became Glinda. And Cynthia's vocal delivery on songs like The Wizard And I and Defying Gravity makes me love these songs even more than I did from the stage musical. I'm definitely planning on seeing this movie again, my mom says she wants to come with me to see it as she has heard me raving about it non-stop lately haha 😂

A year late to this video and idk if you're still reading comments, but in case you are: RRR does something which I think the MCU used to do well (especially in Phase 2, and most infamously still managed with the Spider-Man movies): incorporate references without them overtaking the story or making it incomprehensible to someone who didn't catch it. Most western audiences will miss it, but RRR is saturated in references to Hindu mythology...but, not to the point that the narrative relies on those references nor do the references overtake the story. e.x. As you pointed out, one of the most epic scenes turned Raju into a "superhero", which means this scene hit for you even though you missed (or at least didn't point out in the video) the mythological reference -- which was that he wasn't turning into a superhero, but a demigod; specifically, Rama. The MCU used to do this, and I think Captain America: The Winter Soldier was a phenomenal example of a movie where the references worked to supplement the story for die-hard fans without the story requiring them to have emotional impact. Half the people walking into the theaters already knew Bucky was the Winter Soldier, while the other half were completely blindsided by it -- and both sets of audiences got tremendous emotional pay-off throughout the movie, just at different points and in different layers. Compare that to Civil War, which already shows the MCU's fraying when we get an intense emotional battle between Steve and Tony without enough relationship development; it still worked, but it also relied heavily on viewers implicitly filling in the gaps of their story with cultural osmosis from the comics. Spider-Man No Way Home was one giant homage to all the previous films -- but it still worked even if you'd never seen any of the previous films. Multiverse of Madness...not so much. Black Panther 2 was a solid movie, but I watched it out of order relative to some Marvel properties and thus found myself incredibly confused by everything Valentina. Thor 4 was fun for me, but it was also saturated in references and sequences that made little sense without context and detracted from the story.

The live action is great, but as a manga reader I can definitely say the manga is LEAGUES ahead of the live action, almost every "criticism" you had about the LA is addressed in the original and has meaning behind it. The reason the antagonists spill so much and make bad choices is because they under-estimate luffy and think hes a no name pirate with no strength. They are blinded by greed and power which leads to their demise. This slowly changes later on as Luffy gains more notoriety in the world.

  • @NotePortal

The reason Nami did not fight is 1. Oda wanted to show that sometimes you need to rely on the people around you for help, doing things on your own is not always the correct choice. 2. She's weak as fuck at that time.

I agree with the criticism of MCU phase 4 being bad. I do love the spiderman movie (no way home). In general MCUphase4 sucks because there is unnecessary cringe comedy (like Thor movies), too much emphasis on female boss characters (she hulk, black panther, etc) but storylines are weak and feels too forced to accept feminism. The cast of MCU4 especially the new characters are not as charismatic as before.

Good review. A few good scenes do not a good season make.Almost two years waiting to watch a makeshift slumber party, a newspaper clipping depicting your hero as a petty thief, a loser perjurer training under aged children in the woods and a poor kid running through the woods to crap his pants...yeah...great season...NOT. Next we will have Miyagi Do v The Flying Saucers. And it is ok for you to be negative. You gave an excellent review. Like the saying goes, this show has overstayed its welcome. I also strongly agree with you that the show should have ended at Season 5. I have gone on record on other sites that Season 5 should have been the last Season. As you aptly pointed out, all of the major conflicts-Robbie/Miguel; Johnny/Danny; Tori/Samantha had been ironed out. Cobra Kai was defeated, and Terry Silver was arrested. Kreese escaping like a James Bond villain was interesting, but it didn't matter. He was already defeated a number of times (which is why he called for Terry Silver for reinforcement) and he would have been freed anyway due to Stingray's perjured testimony (who himself should have been incarcerated). I am somewhat at a loss as to why everyone is talking about Kreese as a fugitive. Sting Ray recanted his false testimony in Season 5 (and in fact, he should be incarcerated for perjured testimony) Season 5 debuted September 9, 2022. It has been nigh on two years since we have seen anything new. Moreover, it wasn't until January 20, 2023 that we learned that Cobra Kai was going to be renewed by NETFLIX for a sixth and thank god final season. My guess is that the producers of Cobra Kai went into Season 5 with the mindset that IT WAS PROBABLY GOING TO BE THE LAST SEASON-which why it feels that Season 5 should have been the end in the last episode. I think the producers probably thought that way also, but to hedge their bets in Season5 they threw in a 2 minute obscure reference to the Sakai Tekai tournament in a Kreese flashback and allowed Kreese to escape the prison...just in case there was another Season. As for Season 6 Part 1, it's the "Same old song and dance my friend". I think as a foreshadowing to this was the delay of filming this season due to the writers strike, and to me was just another omen that the series should have ended at Season 5. They keep using this Stop/drive and reverse technique. For the umpteenth time Johnny and Danny join forces...for about 1/2 a week they work together, then a few days later it goes in reverse and they are adversaries again. It is getting played out. Additionally, by resolving the major plot conflicts of Season 5, there is nothing left. They try to reignite old conflicts or start new ones that just fizzle. Demetri mad because Hawk didn't apply to MIT ? Also, Hawk can only apply to one school-which is why he didn't apply to MIT ? Is there a limit to the amount of schools he can apply to ? Then Tory quits Cobra Kai-so now Hawk gets to go to the tournament by default? They nerfed Hawk in Season 5..and now he is getting further devalued. And to top it off, the episodes are filled with fuller. We waited almost two years for Season 6, and what do we get for it: We see Kenny run back from the woods to crap in his pants, watch Johhny host a slumber party for girls, and have Daniel discover a vault under a bed (which never would have been found had Chosen not moved in) with a newspaper clipping showing that his hero was once a two bit thug who stole a necklace. The fans waited two years for this ??? This show sucks.

Johnny training Devon is no issue. We've had five seasons dedicated to him dealing with Miguel and Robbie. They've both elevated to stardom and don't need anything much from the guy, so it makes sense Johnny has someone new to mentor now that's basically at an entry level. And Johnny reverting back to his old ways is no issue either because he spent 30+ years with the same mindset and demeanor. That's not going to change and be erased entirely in a two-year period so he's gonna crack and go back to old Johnny at times.
