cycling, over lean and over striding on the start. cycling, over lean and over striding continues in the second step. then poor form after driving phase
Block distance based on foot length is a stupid, lazy way to setup. It should be based on leg length. Check out athlete x on RUclips for a good way to setup
Since I saw only praise in the comments… this start is far from perfect. His shin angle is too high when he is at “triple extension.” You can see that he doesn’t quite get to triple extension but was close to it. Don’t round the shoulders when coming out of the blocks. Upper body should be at a 45 degree angle almost in a straight line with your back leg during triple extension. The angle of his front shin when in the blocks is also too high. It seems like he leads with his foot and almost lunges out of the blocks. You want to lead with your hips and not try to lunge out. If someone wants me to provide more info or tips or a good video I would be more than happy to help just reply to my comment.
keep it going...any discussion about technique is useful to many people who maybe are shy or whatever the reasons. So, for beginners, how do you determine which foot is your back foot and which foot is your front foot? I was instructed to imagine a big kick with a soccer ball...the leg you would kick is the leg that goes back...however, I also have heard that your power leg should be forward to drive and your speed leg should be back to get out fast. What's your take? the more details the better because this is great stuff! Thank you
@@fierce-green-fire8887 I have my “strong leg” or leg I would kick a football or whichever foot/leg I would jump highest with as my back leg. Your front leg in the blocks does 100% of the initial push off but you want your first step out of the blocks to be with your power leg which is why you want your power leg as your back leg in the blocks. This is typically what people do. If that doesn’t feel right you can try the other way and play around with it. See what’s comfortable and with which leg forward let’s you have your best starts. No problem man. Glad to help!
Dear Noah. Congratulations for the video. I am athletics teacher from Brazil and I would like to place an order. I've been writing a book on athletics teaching for a few months now. I would like to ask your permission to use prints of part of this video in the text. So I can illustrate improving the block start. Thanks in advance.
Suresh- triple extension refers to full extension of 3 joints. The hip joint, the knee joint and the ankle joint. In this video there is a freeze frame where the athlete has driven the right knee and left arm forward. Look closely at the left side. Before that left foot has left contact with the block, he has fully extended his hip, knee and ankle so that you could draw a straight line from the crown of his head through his foot. Without triple extension, an athlete can not take full advantage of their power.
Hey guys! This is Matt Urtu here (the Narrator and camera guy for the video😂 ) Thanks for all the views and comments guys! Noah and I just made this for his senior “how to” project (hence the music) and we uploaded this to RUclips bc we didn’t have a flash drive to put it on, lol. We never thought it would take off like this 😂 For anyone watching this video who is interested in trying track, I can honestly say that track was the best time of both of our lives, no doubt!!! Noah is actually still running in track in college for Biola university. Anyways thanks for the corrections/suggestions in the comments, and we’re glad you enjoyed the video! :)
Hey! I’m just starting track soon, I noticed the runners right foot was not fully touching the block until he pushed off. Is this regular protocol for sprinters, or just a personal tendency?
I thinks it's a personal tendency but my coach always teaches me to press both feet firmly against the pedals, maybe cuz a lot of guys just push with the front pedal instead of pushing with both
Coach Kelly sounds like a genius.

i have never seen this good start ever
How long does your warming up run last?
Dont bounce
anyone gonna talk about how he didn’t have socks. 🧦❌🚫
It’s actually pretty common for short distance sprinters
Great directions. Nice video sir. 😎 Now every man can blast off like rocket
Are you left footed?
Your back heel also needs to touch the block to maximize reaction time

Nobody talking about him not wearing socks
because it is common for sprinters and even distance runners to not wear socks in spikes...been like that for over half a century now.
Those are massive blocks
Nah I’ve raced at that track with the same blocks, it really ain’t that big
How are you doing 4 years later

@@BriannaMoore. lol that’s what i thought, i do cross country and couldn’t see why someone would need a block start to run 3 miles on terrain

Keep in mind in his thumbnail, the leg in front was the one in the back on the blocks. That's an insane jump!
The left leg(front) is a monster along w/ gravity AKA weight distribution last but not least ANTICIPATION of the gun

I don’t think it was a random person if you watch the end they are standing behind the block
