The band is and has mostly been John Stanier

You realise it's still two of the founding members right? It's not a solo project and it's not a new group, why shouldn't they keep the Battles name?

@@chosone2 Battles is undeniably the brainchild of Ian Williams, a genius musician, who contributed the most to the two best records by don caballero, made two records with Storm and Stress which remain overlooked by everyone, and then Battles, to which he established the founding musical sound and approach. This is not to say the other members did not contribute amazing things, because they did. It isn't Battles anymore. He was the leader but he wasn't the sole voice. Without the other members he should go by his name and have Stainer still drumming for him. Just like Jeremy Enigk founded emo with Sunny Day Real Estate, and when that group of musicians stopped making music he continued under his own name. The only reason it's still called Battles is because that has name recognition, and Ian Williams doesn't. And I say that as a huge Ian Williams fan.

@@BearFattfilm Stanier's drumming has been Battles' solid foundation since day one, and from how they both speak about the process in interviews, it's still very much a collaborative effort. Stanier isn't just drumming for Williams Also I don't buy the whole "but Battles has name recognition" reasoning. Battles are hardly a household name outside of the music nerd circle, and even within it, Battles were much more relevant during their first two albums. Also they've worked with Gary Numan, who made a bigger name for himself in his solo career than the band Tubeway Army he was a part of.

Sad though that as good as this band is they seem to only play the smaller venues ... But Why ?
