Wooten Park Bald Eagle Release - Beckley, WV
Просмотров 93Год назад
The August 9th 2023 release of this Bald Eagle was gratifying to all involved. Suffering from lead poisoning which left it debilitated and grounded, it was captured by the employees of the Raleigh County Solid Waste Authority at the Landfill and was rehabilitated at the Three Rivers Avian Center. Thank you to all for returning this bird to the wild.

February 20, 2022 Barn Owl Release
Просмотров 8372 года назад
This Barn Owl had been struck by a car and had a serious concussion. This type of injury can turn fatal at any time during recovery but this bird made through and was released back to his home territory to the happiness of everyone involved. Thanks to Lisa Wykle for rescuing him, Dr Sue Mohler For tending to him, and the staff at TRAC for pulling him through. These birds are becoming scarce acr...
The Dunbar Merlin
Просмотров 1912 года назад
A Merlin is not the kind of bird we see very often here at TRAC. This falcon is larger than a Kestrel but not nearly as big as a Peregrine. This female either ran amok of another predator or maybe prey that wasn't going down without a fight. She was rather beat up. But after care at the Center and a month's R & R she was ready to get out there and give it another go.
Benny In The Snow
Просмотров 5662 года назад
So we took Benny the Barn Owl out for an introduction to the chilly white stuff for the first time. He had never been out in it before and had only just seen it through a window earlier that week. So we wanted to see how he would react. Ron took him out to a couple of trees he had been visiting through the Summer for playtime and recorded this. Benny seemed to enjoy himself, even if he was a li...
A December Loon
Просмотров 632 года назад
A Common Loon mistakenly touched down on a roadway instead of water in Greenbrier County on the 18th of December 2021 but suffered only a few scrapes to its feet. It needed a little help to get up and back on migration so TRAC volunteer Caleb Keneipp brought the bird in for a checkup. The foot scratches were of no consequence so Caleb got to release it the same day.

Broadwing Hawk Release by Judy Polan
Просмотров 3493 года назад
Releasing birds rarely goes as planned. And Broadwing Hawk releases, for some unfathomable reason, have a high rate of going awry in front of a camera. In this video our volunteer Judy Polan falls victim to this curse and plays Statue of Liberty to this little hawk who sat on her glove glaring at her for a painfully long time before he hit the road.

Feeding 4 Baby Eastern Screech Owls
Просмотров 61 тыс.3 года назад
So here was a clutch of 4 Eastern Screech Owl chicks who were safely ensconced in the wall of an abandoned old building in Beaver, WV. ....until the building was torn down. Fortunately, the excavator operator spotted the fluff balls in the gaping hole his machine had torn open in the wall. So, here on May 8, 2018 they are getting their first meal at TRAC. They were then moved into a cage with R...

The bird was put down immediately after we took this video. Use it the next time YOU need to convince someone of the horrors of lead in the environment. A picture IS worth a thousand words in this controversy. Many hunters just don't get it. The people who steadfastly insist on manufacturing and selling the stuff don't get it. You need to speak out. We speak to thousands of people every year about it. Thank you for caring.

I doubt he was saveable at this point, it's probably gone into his bloodstream and he would likely die regardless of what you did to stop it.

    • @threeriversaviancenter9177

That this bird was suffering so made us furious. We posted this so that people would see how horrible lead poisoning is. We get flack every time we try to impress upon some people the need to ban lead bullets and just talking about it doesn't strike home as well as actually seeing what we have to see. So now I just say, "if you don't get why lead should be banned, I'll show you why. " We put the bird down immediately after filming this.

Thanks Beth. The release went picture perfect. The melody behind it is an excerpt from a ridiculously long piece I wrote back in 1991 about the logging of old growth trees in Kumbrabow State Forest. The passage "The Forest at Peace" is the only mellow part of that 15 minute rant. You can hear it at ronaldperrone.com/ttide.html Scroll down to "Remember Kumbrabow". The very ending music is a little ditty I wrote as a teenager called "Butler Creek". Its on ronaldperrone.com/allthemusic.html I put it down the page under "Stuff From My Attic".
