Fox Squirrel feasts on Elm samaras
An Eastern Fox Squirrel (Sciurus niger) feasts on green samaras from a large Cedar Elm (Ulmus crassfolia) at Hermann Park, in Houston, TX, USA. There were actually about half a dozen of these Squirrels in this tree all taking the opportunity to get a nice breakfast. Unlike other native Elms in the area, which fruit in early spring, Cedar Elms produce fruit in the fall, which helps Squirrels like this to fatten up for winter.

Spotted Orbweaver spider discards seed and harvests insects in web

A Spotted Orbweaver (Neoscona crucifera) discards a Little Bluestem (Schizachyrium scoparium) grass seed and gathers small insects from its web at Attwater Prairie Chicken National Wildlife Refuge, in Colorado County, TX, USA. I thought it was interesting that a lot of these Spotted Orbweaver spiders appeared late in the afternoon, whereas I had not seen them earlier in the day along the same t...

Bold Jumping Spider ignores Ant

A Bold Jumping Spider (Phidippus audax) goes in the opposite direction when a small black Ant (family Formicidae) possibly a Dark Rover Ant (Brachymyrmex patagonicus) walks by in front of it, on a sign at Attwater Prairie Chicken National Wildlife Refuge, in Colorado County, TX, USA. I guess an Ant would be too small a meal to be worth the effort for this Spider.

A Loggerhead Shrike (Lanius ludovicianus) perches on a Bladder Pod plant (Sesbania vesicaria) at Attwater Prairie Chicken National Wildlife Refuge, in Colorado County, TX, USA. It doesn't look like the Shrike can get a good grip on the thin branch though. The wind pushes the bird back along the branch, and the Shrike tries to readjust a couple of a times, but it looks like the Shrike eventually...

A small Spider Wasp (family Pompilidae) maybe a Blue-black Spider Wasp (Anoplius sp.) excavates a hole in a sandy part of a trail at Attwater Prairie Chicken National Wildlife Refuge, in Colorado County, TX, USA. i was surprised by that, too. apparently, antlions liquify and suck out the insides of the ants, leaving the exoskeleton. but since i'd never noticed any skeletons around the pits, i had always assumed the ants were eaten whole. so i was surprised when the dead ant rose out of the bottom of the pit and started moving around a bit. i thought maybe the ant was still alive, but then it went flying. so that's when i learned that antlions throw out the leftover carcasses of their meals.

    Nevermind, don't answer that. It's almost mating season right? When bucks become more less afraid during mating season & male deer can become aggressive and territorial and may attack humans.

    • @adamSendejas
      @adamSendejas 2 месяца назад

      @@StuffISawOutside I'm just saying that you should beware of these deer are capable of. While deer are normally peaceful animals, they do have a dark side. Like for example seen deer eating baby birds that have fallen out of their nest. And male deer have Testosterones levels during the rutting season. They can also be territorial & will defend their area from other bucks. Bucks may attack people who appear to be rivals or threats. In the past, bucks have gored people and dogs. And I kept my distance when I filmed one of them at Padre Island National Seashore less than two weeks ago while that buck was grazing just less than a hundred feet away from me. If you see deer in your neighborhood, you should keep your distance and never try to get close to them, feed them, or pet them. Another species of deer, the Red Deer, in Scotland have been found to be partly carnivorous and are known to eat young birds to get the minerals they need to grow their antlers.
