Kayak trailer build 2.0
Updated version of the kayak hauler. Slowly adding to it and thought I'd share some of the recent additions. Very budget friendly build and very easy to put together. Hope you enjoy and as always thanks for the support.

I was pretty new to kayaking and even newer to modding kayaks when I first got this one so a lot has been switched around multiple times as I learn new tips and tricks. this is a very budget friendly build any everything was very easy to put together. Early morning fishing off Seneca river in CNY in my Ascend 12t kayak. Managed to get a few small bass after a cold front in late June. First time at the highly pressured dam this year.

Had an hour to fish small Dryden Lake in central NY. Couple 1lbers. Fishing in a Skagit fishing pontoon.
Love all the mods. Impressive. I have the same kayak. Have any suggestions on tools/materials to patch a small crack. Just realized my kayak is taking on water inside. Thanks
@@eddieb3328 thanks. They make small plastic welding kits for small cracks but i could also try something like jbweld for a quick fix.

In comparison from the original shorter seat it came with vs the taller upgraded seat you added which one do you like more and is better in your opinion.?…
I like the higher back. But it's really not much of a difference as far as comfort.
Is this kayak good in rough waters
I honestly would say no. Ive had it out on Cayuga lake a few times and even a little chop is hard to deal with. It does not track very well. I fish mostly rivers and smaller lakes so its fine for what i do but as for bigger waters that can get a little choppy i would definitely go a different direction than this kayak.
Could you explain more on how you bolted the ladder rack on any tips?
Sure. The ladder racks are adjustable to the width you need and each side is 3 peices. 2 legs and a center peice. They have 90° bracket on the feet so you just put it on the frame of the trailer on the edges, mark where your hole need to go through the frame of the trailer to bolt it down and drill your holes in the frame of the trailer (there are already holes drilled into the rack for mounting) then just bolt it to the trailer and adjust your center bar and tighten it down. Its very easy. Take less than 30 mins.

I kayak , go to work , drive my car , go to the store , go to the mall , go to my friends house barefooted 👣. The other 5% of the time i am wearing flip flops 🩴. I can only wear flip flops 🩴because I have big very very Extremely wide feet 🦶 sz15 6E wide with very very chubby fat wide toes that are Evenly straight across making my foot very very Extremely wide at 6 1/2 inches wide from my big toe to my lil toe. My foot outgrow shoes , socks , & boots when I was 18 years old & i had to live my life barefooted 👣 for a whole entire year before I found a pair of flip flops 🩴 that would fit me. So i am just a barefooted 👣 person now. I also grow up being barefooted 👣 & playing around barefooted 👣 so this is why I like your channel name. You have a nice looking kayak trailer man. I am looking for a kayak trailer myself to haul 12 kayak. This was a good video man thanks you for sharing it.

Awesome build! How wide/ tall is the boat? Watching your dam fishing video it looks super stable.
At the widest point I think it's like 54 inches and it's a normal style vhull. 14ft. Its decently stable on smaller lakes and rivers. On some bigger water it gets a little sketchy but the bump seat helps. Thanks for the support!

I also us it on a Mustang Survival inflatable PFD, just run a longer cable for the power bank that I keep in my pants pocket.

How do you like the seat? I was looking at one, but 1) The fabric looked too thin, like it wouldn't last long and 2) it didn't seem like the bottom went far enough back under the tailbone.
Honestly I'm not sold on the seat. I'm a bigger guy and I feel like it's not very comfortable. After about an hour I need to get out and stretch cause my lower back is starting to hurt. Fishing an all day tournament with this seat would be pretty tough. Gonna try an extra pad and see if that helps at all.

I have the Ascend 12T and 10T and I just purchased the same trailer. I like your design. Questions about the bed liner: Did you spray or roll it on? Did you apply it before or after assembly? Did you have to sand the surface before application? Did you bed liner over the bolts too? What did you do about the trailer vin placard and such on the tongue; did you cover it with bed liner, remover it and then put it back on...etc? Thanks.
I used spray bed liner. Did it as I was putting it all together. I went over the frame with a wire wheel to scuff it up before painting. I taped around the vin before painting it.
Planning mine, while I save up the cash to fund. Did you cut your bench seats out completely, frame in the subfloor and put pour foam in it, with a channel in the middle for water draining, or skip all that?
I did not add any pour foam. I planned to as I wasnt sure if i was keeping it the way it is. There is a small channel in the bottom of the boat for drainage and i kind of framed around it not to mess up any water flow to back of the boat. I only cut out a hole in the bench and framed the live well in around it.
Where did you get the belt buckles straps? That’s a great idea and I would like to get them since I see they work. Tired of using the ratchet strap across the boat. Thanks

Its actually pretty stable. I don't usually go out into rougher waters tho. I know its limits lol.

Not sure of the brand but I ordered them from walmart.com. they were about $100.
Jon boats, by definition cant have a v-hull. When you add a v hull, it stops being a job boat.

It's just painted. I painted it black then blotted the green spots on with a sponge. U can also use a grocery bag for the same effect.

Really nice conversion...What is the total spent on this? Did you add night light strips for illuminating the area for those pre-dawn / post-sunset operations? I will be cloning your setup soon.
I think the total was around $800 or so. Definitely under $1000. Good question about the lighting, I'm actually working on that now with a couple other small things. Thanks for the feedback I really appreciate it. Hope yours comes out well. Any questions feel free to ask.

@@largemammaloutdoors4503 they are decent. I have 2 for soft plastics in my boat. They are not so durable and the latch could be better so I wouldn't throw them around or drop them, but they are cheap and do the trick and you won't cry of you do happen to crack or break on like the $50 plano edge ones. I switch all my boxes out to the edge system but not those ones.
And those are a hell of a lot cheaper than those flambeau containers

Love your set up! I just got me a 14’ v hull i want to convert to a bass boat a little intimidating but eager to get the project started. Any tips or tricks?
I need to get me a vhull. I have a 1432 flat bottom right now. It's just plain. I like the v better. They just ride better. Great video. You put everything I would want on a tiny bass boat. Tight lines.

You like the foot mount on that trolling motor? I have the same one and have trouble operating it. I am use to the ones that fit your shoe.
No I'm not crazy about the foot pedal. I prefer the kind that you are using. I have the copilot so I use the handheld control a lot of the time. Thanks for the comments.

That thing is sweet! I've been wanting to start my build for a while but can't decide on layout. Did you have a final result in mind before you began or did it evolve during?
Thanks man. I kind of had a basic idea, but for the most part it kind of just came together as I was doing it. I've still been adding more. I recently added 2 long bunks with slides on the trailer and also a small led headlight on the front and rear of the boat.
