I played in this era, wrestling for the ball in rucks was always a battle, im talking junior level, thats what we did in rucks, one on one wrestle for the ball, it was real rugby, first fifteen all day!

But he could have enlightened us as to the reason why the incomparable Mike Gibson was missing (Injury?). Instead Ireland included all of our other legendary players of that era, Willie-John McBride, Ray McLoughlin, Ken Kennedy and Fergus Slattery. Happy days for hawkes bay. They brutalized the lions in 1971. Four tries by the lengendary gerald davies the difference..the second string lions team was poor on this 1993 tour. In 1971 bob hiller was the second team captain. He couldnt get jprs shirt thanks to the kicking of barry john. Bobs second string tean went through the new Zealand provinces unbeaten. Tours are no existant now. A lions tour used to be two months! New Zealand don't even play cardiff any more!😮

My G, I do love the Welsh…..one of my Dreams would have been going to Cardiff Arms Park, to watch the All Blacks verse Wales…. And enjoy more than a few great Welsh Beers with the locals. It a shame but it is now unrealistic for me to have these dreams.
