Awesome. My cat is also a plastic eater. I try to stop her, but each time she gets sick, she wants to cuddle and complain of a tummy ache. There's no way to watch her 100% of the time, so it's hard to get her to not eat plastic. Vet wants me to scare her into hating plastic but I thought that was a horrible trauma to put on a cat. I just take it back and try a firm no whenever I catch her, but that doesn't seem to help. Any suggestions?
Oh my gosh, don't know how I didn't reply to this when you posted it. Oops! Sorry! The only thing I've been able to do is make sure there's nothing out and in reach that my cat is able to get to. By now I've figured out what in particular she likes, so I always keep bags and such tucked away where she can't get them. Besides that, she does have a couple toys that have crinkley things inside of them, so it is similar to the bag/plastic noise, but it's something she can actually chew on and play with and not ingest it. I personally don't like to change behavior by fear. It just creates anxiety and avoidance behaviors. I just try to reward good behaviors with what she likes. Give her good options (toys) and take away the bad options (the plastics). Contrary to popular belief, cats CAN be trained. I've been wanting to do that but never took the plunge. All you need is a treat bag on you all the time and a clicker in your pocket. Good behavior > click > treat. :) Hope some of that helps!
