Bass Player for 40 years now. I picked up the bass in 1983 influenced by the music I heard and saw on brand new channel MTV. I have performed with Sheila E. And the Escovedo Family, Kat Dyson (Prince), Andy Fraser (Free), Matt Kearney, Shelley James. I currently play Pop, Rock, and Country music with my wife singer Shelley James and with Disco/Funk band Satin Love Orchestra. On this channel, I play songs and include tips and tutorials. I also do lessons for beginner to advanced hoping to help you love your experience

I have had a book about Jamerson that is full of transcriptions by current great bassists. It is also full of the history and analysis of Jamerson's playing. I worked on this song for weeks. Considering how long I have been playing, I am completely blown away at the incredible skill and musical genius Jamerson possessed. He composed his part based only on being given chord changes. After learni...

awww you buried your bass in the mix. cool i didn't realize the licks at the end
Great work! I’m trying to learn this one now as well, takes a bit of time to memorise it all and get the timing right!:-)
Great hook. Love that line. Smooth playing
Dig it! Smooth!
😀👍👍👍👍👍
Trying to learn this for the first time playing bass... I have bitten off more than I can chew 40 seconds in. But yeah, I am gonna keep messing with it; you got the last parts like you have played it all your life.
Hey pls do a tutorial i want to play for my grandpa birthday
You did it justice!!! ❤ As a lover of the bass and a newby to learn the bass, you were groovin' SO much, off and on, I couldn't keep up! 😅
das ist die richtige, funkige Version =>>> Danke !
Best cover I’ve heard by far. It has that Abraham LaBoriel groove. 👊🏼
Awesome. Thanks for sharing.
Your tone is incredible.
Keep jamming bruh! You play fabulously!❤
EW&F songs are generally really beautiful and this is no exception to the rule. Excellent playing. What stings are those and what year bass is it? Thanks.
I got the boogie down part nailed 😂
All with a smile. Love it!
You rock. Thank you for your comment. Made my day!
That was awesome! Really enjoyed it!
Outstanding!!!

Master!!!
Thank you Brother!
that thumb stuck on the shield plate is a double bass player give away kinda thing lol
I love it!
Enjoy it? Are you kidding? I'm just a white 68-year-old granny with insomnia who is addicted to watching funk bass in the middle of the night with my headphones at full volume so as not to disturb my housemates. Thank you for taking me on the voyage. LOVED IT!
Right on!!
I read in a special equipment edition of Bass Player mag years ago that Verdine White used a Fender Telecaster Bass w/Roto Sound round wounds on this EW & F album.
Cool! Thanks for sharing that. I wonder if I read that same article. I forgot about the gear. An article I read told about how he did overdubs on Shining Star. Maybe a different article.

just awesome that is all I have to say. i am a keyboard player as well has bass. love my disco. great job. no music today like this. Can you tell me what strings you had on that fender precision bass at the time of this video.Just awesome thank you. The sound was so tight. I normally use GHS flat brights. Let me know what you had on this video it was just awesome. thank you
Awesome comments. I inherited the Bass from my dad. He bought it in the 70s and the strings are the same ones he always had on them. isn’t that crazy?
@@CCBassmanAre they flat or round round?
@pboivin212 oh. Sorry. I meant to say that in my first reply! they are flat wound
😂😂😂
get well soon brother my prayers or with you and band
Bless you!
Very smooth playing, James Jamerson's bass lines are a thing of beauty.
Thank you so much. Yes, his playing is truly beautiful
Great job! I love that bass line.
Thanks!
Love you guys, what a blessing you are to others. Life is a struggle and you bring Jesus to us. ❤
Thank you Sherry! Love you right back 100x Sister!!!
Nice! Sir, what year is that P Bass?
Thank you Sir! I am trying to find out. I just took off the neck to look inside, and saw...nothing! So, my research continues. My Dad bought it years ago, and I never though to ask him. My hunch is that it is a '76. I will post here to my channel when I find out!
Good stuff Brother!
Right on. Thank you so much Man!
I used to put this song on the record player every day when I got home from school and play along.with James. I was in the 9th grade, and already gigging. Years later I got to meet James, who told me I was doing ot all wrong. I told him that he was the reason I was doing it at all.
Wow. What a story!!!
Also, a very important part of James Jamerson‘s playing was that he only played with one finger on his picking hand. One finger. That’s incredible. Because it’s all upstrokes. His ability can only be matched by somebody like Django Reinhardt, who only had two fingers on his fretting hand. An absolute giant that played in a truncated way.
You are so right about that! It defined the entire style of what he played and how it sounded.
That was great!
Thank you man!!
RIGHT ON!,,,thank you so much
You bet!!!!
Wow that was awesome brother 👍🏼👏🏼👌🏼
Thank you!!!!
Love the message, love Marvin, and fantastic playing. One of the easiest subs of my life.
Wow. I really appreciate your comments!
Great playing, enjoyed very much!!
Thank you a million!
Great groove and lovely playing! Is that a 72 precision? I have exactly the same one.
I have to remove the neck and find out what year this is. I suspect it could be. My Dad bought it and played it a lot. I inherited it when he passed away. I have been putting it off for some reason. I am afraid I will damage it. I will get bold and do it soon! Thanks for your comment!!!
Well done! Nicely played, very inspirational and great choice of material.
Much appreciated my friend!!
