One of the things one has to be careful about with professor chomsky is his definition of concepts. You and I may have a definition of capitalism but it may not be the same as chomsky's definition.

We live in a society where just about everyone eats three solid meals a day, has a roof over their head, drives a car, has a phone, probably a heater, and an air conditioner and it is the rich guys fault that you don't drive a Ferrari and have servants working for you. Bull Crap.... very few people who want a job cannot find one in the USA. You probably won't start as the president of the company making $250,000 a year, but you can start at the bottom and work you way up. Anyone who wants to educate themselves and improve in the USA can if they are willing to do the work to improve themselves. I worked 40 - 60 hours a week plus another 8 - 12 hours of volunteer work and went to college full time. Graduated with a bachelors and a masters degree with a B+ / A- average grade. Anyone who wants to bad enough can do so. There are very few people who cannot do so if they are willing to do the work in the USA. But that's just poor govt policy. Even Uber Capitalist countries like the US have a health insurance programme for the poor called MedicAid. India had nothing along those lines till RSBY and the now Ayushman Bharat Yojana came along. I hate the proto fascists in today's govt as any one else, but the healthcare sector was trashed by all govts. Look at the supply side economics. We have so few doctors . And medical licensing is NOT capital controlled(on paper) but a function of govt control. Yet we have so few docs. Govt Hospitals get swarmed every day because the only point of delivery for govt healthcare is govt setups. That is so dumb. A massive Single payer system overhaul is long due. Even a limited public option would be a good start in India.

This is dangerous since there are truths in what he is saying but he is lying about why there are farmer suicides in India. The agrarian laws after independence allowed tillers to be owners which was a socialist policy. There was no intermediate succession where they enabled the small scale tillers and peasants to become independent growers. They would still rely on the government and have no access to water supply or able to sell their crop without a middleman. Most farmer suicides are because there is not enough water supply and therefore no crop. The government fails in providing water supply because there are no major dam projects or small scale water holding projects. The farmers then take loans from the middlemen which they cannot repay. The software sector in India boomed because of very few government policies regarding them. So it was a free open market not in government control. Those who were talented played in the economy which by 1995 had opened up or they went to USA and they brought in investments in India. Case in point is Infosys..the CEO was very talented and he had investment support from USA companies through his brother in law Gururaj Deshpande. Socialism failed India when it comes to business models and agrarian models miserably. Similarly the safety issues in UP have nothing to do with the nature of Indian society but squabbles between socialist-yes socialist-parties like SP and BHP over who gets to own which block of coal or zinc mines. These can turn into street fights with no go zones and favella kind of situations where innocents are killed. The police in these areas are not armed and cannot bring in public safety since the other side is generally heavily armed.

Everything he says I see clearly as well and this is why I have preached that poor people can’t and should not have kids because it puts them in an even more desperate position which makes them dangerous to the rest of us .
