Didn't find a way to send Listener Mail so I'll post my comment here. While I didn't expect a non-science person to get everything right and you said at the outset that neither of you are sciencey people, I kinda hoped you'd run your research by someone who knows what NMR and it's child MRI are based on. The podcast says it's based on the nucleus but that's not right. While knowing something about quantum physics is kinda required to get the very basics of how NMR works, it's based on the electrons that surround the nucleus. It's not "proton spin" that's being observed but outer shell electron's spin. May not seem like much but it's the hydrogen atom's electrons in a body that are giving off the signal. It's like using a giant mallet to bang on a bridge and pressing your ear to a girder to hear the sound that reflects back.

Common misconception: the FBI doesn't require a consistent idiology to serve its masters. You're implying alot of motives to the FBI that aren't necessary to explain their actions. The government is a machine. The people who make up the government are cogs, interchangeable, and indifferent. The same FBI that wholeheartedly targets the Black Panthers, can wholeheartedly target the Klan because the Agent sent to the BP office isn't the same agent sent to the ranch in Alabama. Balancing different people with different interests is part of leadership. The FBI is made of alot of different people, with their own biases. You align them with thier role. Some agents are cold and disconnected, and will do what ever they are told, because their motive is career advancement. Others seek justice, and are best utalized on the front lines fighting your most despicable opponants. Do not assign human traits to an inanimate object like the FBI or GOP, or USA. It is made of humans, but it is not human. It does not rationalize like a human.

However, in DeKalb, Illinois, I have never heard this pronunciation. The "L" in DeKalb is clearly pronounced. I was cringing every time I heard it and wondering how good the research was.

I've heard of Francis before but I didn't know he wrote family biographies. I want to read ALL of them. I'm a 9th great grand niece of Thomas Egerton, 1st Viscount Brackley. I've had my DNA tested, and I have a paper trail to the moon and back to prove it. My maiden name is Egerton. I'm sure he was collecting up all sorts of obscure manuscripts. I'd love to see what he got his hand on. Thomas had invested huge gambles on one of his nephews in the Dutch East India Company, (which I'm wondering if it was my 9th great grandfather. ) I'm sure Francis was probably looking for all sorts of documents pertaining to early colonization records that would prove Brits had land claims in America as far back as 1585.
