They don’t understand that males means more saving for our waifus

Okay so I think I do need to bring something up that a lot of us are missing. Game companies will cater to their target audience and sometimes this just comes down to cultural differences. I think a great example of this is looking at the design of characters in a game like HSR and comparing them to designs in games like LoL. I am aware that LoL is not a gacha and it's a comp betitive game. It is also a game made for western players however. A lot of the things that western gacha players want are present in games like LoL. The unique and visually interesting designs, the male to female ratio and of course more masculine men. The truth is this is what western players like. Eastern beauty standards are very different. More effeminate men and pretty boys are very prevalent. This is to appeal to the main demographic for the game which is eastern players. We here in the west are very much in the minority. And before you ask the reason why games like LoL work in the east is because LoL is a very gameplay forward game which is very uncommon for gachas. People don't play LoL champs because "they have mommy energy" they play them for playstyle and because they have a strong kit. Any way I'm done ranting. TLDR what people want from gacha in the west is not what people want from it in the east. A good example of the kind of roster that people want from gacha is LoL, Apex or even Valorant

You forgot one crucial thing. Kuro, even with PGR, implements one of the least aggressive gacha monetization and systems in the industry. A C6 R5 in Genshin isn't priced the same as WuWa's S6 R5. Also, you seem to have such a paradoxical way of presenting views and absorbing information. I suggest writing your script better with coherent points and avoid contradicting rhetorical points. You can't apply one principle you allude to and then contradict it with through a point that seems unrelated. For instance, you used the revenue chart to support your point but also contradict it by saying it's unreliable as it's a "rough idea" and is only an estimate, "BUT" still is valid in a way. Putting a disclaimer doesn't help that. Or saying that WuWa isn't dying, but then retract and say "but it kinda is dying. It's complicated." Another one, you used Google Play reviews to support your point, yet I looked at the majority of the reviews are positive but you made conclusions based on a small sample size of bad reviews. 3:23 "Even though these are estimates, the downward spiral of wuthering is true." Previously you talk about not using these data for CONCLUSIONS, yet you did. 7:46 "dwindling player base" can i ask a conclusive source? 7:55 another conclusion that needs evidence. Also, there are actual channels (gacha enjoyer) and CC's (like gateoo) that actually made and some are still making videos regarding this idea that WuWa is dying. 9:16 again, a conclusion supported primarily from a speculative data. hence, paradoxical. Don't take this the wrong way. Take it as constructive criticism.

Those ratios are just adjusted to gender spending habits. Men have a heavier tendendy towards poligamy and will roll for a lot of women they find sexy, they also spend more than women to get duplicates for meta reasons. Meanwhile women generally focus a lot more compared to men on a few chatacters they like, but in game they will just probably get less copies of them and will spend more on merchandise outside the game. The developers themselves are just following the trend that naturally produce more revenue that is producing more female characters in game, and a lot of merchandise and irl collabos for women outside the game. Dont blame the people, is just nature

I'm a guy and I always want to play as myself and if not me play as some really cool male character. I think there's a lot of people that think this way but the problem is just what you were saying. Most Gachas don't care about their male characters or just don't make them strong enough for people to want to summon for them.

I thought this video was really interesting and well made! It’s worth mentioning too that even genshin has only had 1 new male five star in all of 2024 and 3 male four stars which is criminal compared to the amount of female 5 stars. It’s also worth noting one of my favorite gacha games, granblue fantasy always gives both good male and female fan service and representation. The game has its waifus but it also has very popular husbandos like Sandalphon, Siegfried, Lancelot, Percival, the game rarely ever shys away from giving players male content

there is a sort of weird thing that happens because of all of this and it's that, in a way, they're forced to write good women characters if they wish for them to sell well, I just started playing/researching about gacha games recently but I'm completely blown away by how good stories involving female characters can get, when I'm, for example, more used to how shonen anime treats them, Gachas seem to have a bit of the opposite problem. with ZZZ as my first, i started playing Genshin Impact just recently exclusively because I quite liked Kinich, i love his design and his character concept, I didnt manage to get him and Im pretty much sticking with the game because my boyfriend gifted me the little subscription thing, so im hoping as I move through with it, maybe Neuvillette or Hu Tao change my opinion since they seem to be appearing soon

On the subject of Honkai Star Rail, I really hope the Sunday banner makes bank, and Hoyo realizes there is a demand for well written males like him and Adventurine. Secondly... I think more gacha games need to take a lesson from Resident Evil. Leon Kennedy is the hottest character in the Resident Evil series. He puts the women in the franchise to shame honestly, and not because the women are not hot, he is just that overwhelmingly sexy. Even the guys I know who usually only play female MCs, bend the knee and play Leon in RE games, because he is just so freaking cool. tl;dr: I need Leon Kennedy in Honkai Star Rail... Personally the men they make are just women with a skin swap, that's what makes them un appealing. If you see characters like welt, screwllum or gepard, imo are male characters I would 100% pull for (if we aren't counting meta).

Recently Honkai Star Rail released the drip marketing for Sunday, and it got more engagement on social media than even Firefly's drip marketing back in the day, which is utterly UNBELIEVABLE. If this engagement turns into banner sales, we might have a husbando actually OUTSELL a waifu in a gacha game. Hoyoverse would make history.

The answer is, as always, misogyny and the threat of irl male violence, 'cause males never face any consequence for their actions. It's dangerous for videogame devs to cater to women and that's all there is to it.

It's not that they don't sell, it's just that once a game settles down with male or female characters, it's kinda hard to catch the attention of people who want the exact opposite of what the game is providing. And to be fair, every game gathers the attention of different players, meaning that if the devs don't see the potential, then they will obviously not waste resources on male characters

Thanks for speaking up about that, as sad as it is, when women talk about problems like that, we're told to "stop complaining" or "play something else then, this game isn't for you". I've played WuWa since launch and I've had sooo much fun with it, but if you want to play as male characters you're basically screwed. Lingyang, Yuanwu and Aalto are characters I see anyone barely use, Jiyan was quickly replaces by Jinshi in many players' teams the next banner because of her crazy dmg + she got the whole main story focused on her, in the next update, but ok, lets be fair, I still see people use Jiyan in teams with Mortefi, who's also used not infrequently, but it's still not as frequent as many other female characters. And then there's Calcharo who not only haven't appeared in the story yet, but got replaced in terms of combat in 4 months by another male character - Xiangli Yao, who was given for free, so there's no reason not to use him. Havoc male Rover has really good dmg, but he's optional so you could just not have him on your account. So, basically, out of 8(vs16) characters, people only consistently use 3-4. Also, this is a problem with WuWa in general, but their dsigns look boring (for me personally, I already know all the arguements against this claim, that's just my opinion) so I hope they won't just put every future male character in suits... I still think Genshin has one of the most well designed male characters, you have more variety in their designs that aren't just "suit 1, suit2, suit 3". Venti's design is still one of my favourites of all time, not just in Genshin, but in ANY anime game. Granted, it still sufferes from the fact that the developers are too afraid to make any characters look more than 30 years old and less than stick figure skinny (with SOME exceptions that started happening like what, 2 years after game's launch?), even though some of them like Zhongli or Neuvillette would've been so much better if they looked older, like 40+ AND it still has some tall model male characters in just... suits, but they still have variety. Also male Rover in WuWa feels like the most copy-paste isekai harem protagonist №32783287, while Aether has such a unique design compared to many-many male protagonists in anime, if he was a banner character, I would've considered pulling him just bacause of his design.

You don't seem to understand. Women are designed for Guys. And children are designed for Girls. There is also the limited factor in fashion that is displayed, as well as the ntr factor. Guys don't sell, because most players are guys who want hot girls or good gameplay. Girls again, want cute, which is why children exist. Games that focus too much on men start to fail. This is proven.

I dont think Gachas fail men at all. Straight men at least. Gay men and straight women starve for scraps. All the playable men in Genshin Impact, for example, are hella androgenous or have to fit a waify slender body type, with conservative designs. Dont even get me started on ZZZ. Theyd rather sexualize underaged famales than males hahaha

The problem overall might not even be the treatment since for example in HSR in terms of lore and story male characters are well done. In terms of design BOTH female and male characters often fall into the generic problem (In the video Jiaoqiu was mentioned and while his design isn't as stellar it still has more detail than for example Lingsha) But still the market desides, if statistically there are more male players they will release more female characters (not to mention the misoginy problem in Asian fandoms especially in Korea and China). However! if the gacha game is female targeted with mostly or exclusively male characters it will also perform well and we have a MEGA succesful example like Love and Deepspace which has brought millions in cash by now (or for example NU carnival which also fills in its niche and female target audience being a succesful example) HSR however is more targeted for anyone regardless of gender. story and designwise they so far have been doing either well or better in my opinion that is. I just only hope the treatment with promo material and more diversity in design (applies to female models as well) gets better in the future. NOTE: english isn't my first language and these are my thoughts exclusively touch on HSR, i know that other gachas tend to treat male characters poorly but as i stated those types of games are male focused therefore they have no reason to expand in that direction since it wouldn't sell.

This is why Alchemy Stars is one of my fav gacha games. The male characters get actual stories, cool outfits and strong gameplay.

Limbus Company have a fix cast of 6 male and female but unlike other gacha media everyone is love by the fandom (a.k.a Project Moon fandom)

IMO they are just catering towards audience. Men like waifu characters, Women like waifus (more than men pick husbandos). I'm not so deep into the rabbit hole. I'd say MOST people don't mind if the female character they like is interacting or even has romantic tension with a male character, but a small % of people actually treat waifu as exclusive relationship, and these people are going to object the most. From what I hear this is more common in China/Asia too. The thing is, gatcha games business model revolve around attachment/attraction to characters. If that's the product they will inevitable have to deal with the landscape of what people want / how people react to things.

Snowbreak is the prime example of this. They're fostering a toxic gooner (I won't say the I word here) fanbase that circlejerk all day about girlbosses charas (ironic) and a male protagonist that D around too much the word infidelity won't even be able to describe him.

personal theory of mine. - from beginning KURO want to make WuWa story more mature. - CBT happen, many ppl dislike some parts of stories so they hope KURO change it - got caught of wind to CN g*v. they dislike how KURO portray jinzhou that based on future CN being city full of distrust ppl, then told KURO to change it or game cant be released - KURO comply and rework 90% of story that we got today. thanks to this they got financial hits because doing such rework are expensive af. - running out of fund then they force themself to release early even if it unoptimized af in mobile. - various problems that we see today I didnt have much evidence other than the change of story tone are absurd. the only one who got benefit and can force KURO to change the story even if it cost a lot are CN g*v. I expecting WuWa story truly started at 2.0, like what they want to write at beginning to see if my theory true or not
