This video has been rendered at 24 FPS. There was no audio with this recording because it was made on film without accompanying sound recording equipment. Sound and video were recorded separately in those days. The film reel was in my grandparents' possession for several decades since it was made by my great uncle. After my grandparents both passed away, I had it rendered from film to digital f...

There is no sound with this file. It was transferred from a reel of film. This is a very early example of home video when the technology was only beginning to be available to the public. This was filmed in Berkeley, California.
when I started watching at 4-5 years Old.
God I wish I could recognize which one is my dad, but I know he's in there playing trumpet
What a gem!!! Love this. Thank you for sharing it! ♥️
Wonderful home video.. before this parade became one big commercial. back in the day when I was riding my horse in local parades. I always wonder what became of those beautiful silver Saddles so common with the wealthy horseman, very few exist now. Cast from Rawhide riding with Clint Eastwood Lots of Celebrities participating. The Lincoln Continental convertible looks like a boat.. Beautiful equestrian units.
A year before I was born. Thank you for uploading.
My brothers were just babies then, and I wasn't even a twinkle in my dad's eyes yet!!!
This is great. I was born that year. The floats were great, even at that time. Almost 60 years ago.
Would have been nice to have sound
Why no sound?!?
Read the video description.
It was 1962. Home movies didn't have sound at that time.
It is highly likely that it was filmed on 8mm film which had no sound track of any kind. 1962 was well before video tape. Any film cameras with sound were very expensive and typically only used by some kind of production company.
That was clint eastwood 13:26 didnt know he did parades!
He was also flanked by his co-stars from "Rawhide".
What a catch- good job mark.
OMG, thank you so much. I searched and searched on YT looking for something like this and found my dad who was the drum major at 17:28-17:30. So awesome, and he was very touched to see this again now at 72 years old. THis was when he was a High School Senior. God Bless you for posting this!
I was just given 2 old 8mm projectors and film. I just watched one that is also the 1962 Rose Parade. I'll see if it is not too expensive to transfer to digital and post it.
At 4:02 I'm the baritone horn to the right of the trombone player. Tomorrow, January 1, 2017, it will be 55 years since this was taken. I've never seen it before today. The band was directed by Daniel Hiestand, who died in 1992. I was very proud of that band, and I really liked its director Mr. Hiestand.
My dad was at 17:28 as the drum major from Santa Monica High School. He was very grateful that I found this video, and I'm glad someone filmed it and took the time to post it. I've always regretted not knowing my parents in their prime. Would love to have seen/known the best version of them. Anyway, it is funny because my dad started telling me all the names of the people in the band that he saw and I'm thinking, how the heck do you know who all these people are in this grainy video?? Haha.
My dad played trumpet in the band, I''m desperately looking for the article mentioning him after his performance.
