After putting up a marvelous display all game the other teams goalie basically only gets 1 period of highlights because the camera was pointed straight down. Don't know when it happened but it was like that all game.

Either that or there was a goalie convention I wasn't invited to because I had to sub in the game after this one and there was a sub in the game after that. I guess a bad weekend for goalie availability.

      It's also nice not having to buy Jerseys every other season. Then again we had a Jersey sponsor for this round. I don't know what women's hockey is like but I have been in a toxic locker room before with teammates yelling at each other more than the refs. It is nice to be able to choose not to be on a team with the 1 or 2 players that can ruin the environment. TBH the senior league is pretty good about that. Most of the players have aged out of that. To my knowledge I have the biggest mouth on the ice and I am usually just trying to make people laugh.

    • @RetroButterfly

      @@NerdrageHockey Yeah, I can imagine it would be nice to be able to avoid people that were being toxic. I can't speak for other women's leagues, but these two have been pretty great so far. If people made a habit of yelling at people in dressing rooms, they'd likely be risking their spot in the league. The most toxicity I run in to is certainly the times I've been in co-ed tournaments. Sometimes the net feels like it's the size of a soccer goal. That's how I felt in my game this week at least. There were some good passing, shots, and tips made by the players on both sides of this game. Looks like you took one off the mask around 4:06 or so. 4:06 was my awkward dolphin save (I was looking for a sound effect when editing). Sliding is a lot easier and I started waxing the sliding surfaces which helps immensely. Thanks Jack, I think that getting lower in my stance is helping with the rotation. There was a shot that surprised me where I wasn't lower but for the most part I have trying to keep it low. It does hurt to get up in the back and the hips. TBH it doesn't hurt as much during the game as it does when I am trying to stretch or not on the ice, more bothersome really. That team was pretty hungry and they got some more talent in the off season. I could have helped by stopping that 5 hole from distance but he surprised me. I have had some issues with this brand of camera but a lot of it is me, not charging it, not formatting the card so on so forth. There is a lot of prep work to film these videos. I also have serious misgivings about throwing a $400 camera in the line of slapshots. I will stick with my cheap Akaso v50 (that is the camera that worked in this video). You can see it is sufficient for what I am doing. Once I replace the older camera with the V50 I think I'll be set. I might just thrown the old camera in the net behind me until it gets destroyed.

      That is exactly why I put embarrasing videos of my old over weight butt up on youtube. This game my skates loosened up so much I kept blowing an edge (bought wax laces 10 minutes after the game was over). None of that is flattering. Still up on YT for the world to see.

    Amazing saves out there while securing that win! Well played. lol, yeah, funny seeing you talk to the camera and not being able to hear anything. Pretty much what happens to me every time I try to talk directly into the GoPro, yet it will pick up things people say at the other end of the rink!

    • @NerdrageHockey
      @NerdrageHockey 7 месяцев назад

      Oh it was picking up whistles and slapshots clanging into the boards on the other side of the rink. It really sounded great, it was a wonderful proof of concept. I just sounded like I was speaking through a pillow. Thank you for watching. Another game down in the GSX's. My next upgrade will be wax laces so I can tie down the bases really good and leave the ankles loose. I'll let you know how it goes.

    Glove was looking sharp. I like how the "LOAG" turned into "not a save" lol. You played pretty well. What was going on with the mic and pad? Looked like your right pad wasn't rotating correctly?

    • @NerdrageHockey
      @NerdrageHockey 7 месяцев назад

      Thanks Jack, Toe strap broke and decided to live under the skate blade. I had the goalie ref fortunately and he ripped it off the pad so play could continue. My G4's now have laces like real pads. Mic on the other hand did a great job recording the sounds of the rink and sounds of slapshots and whistles. I sounded muffled and was basically inaudible while talking. Sort of like the adults in Charlie Browns universe. Last week it fell off twice before I got on the ice. I just don't know where to put the thing so it stays on me and picks up the audio I want. I am thinking of a spot on the collar bone and will give that a shot next week.

    • @JackMuren
      @JackMuren 7 месяцев назад

      @@NerdrageHockey oh that sucks about your pad strap. Not much is as aggravating as gear malfunctions mid game. Curious if you could mount the mic in the chin of your mask somehow? Can't get a much better spot to pick up your audio. Nice of the ref to help you out. I'm sure being a goalie himself he understands better than most. Look forward to hearing you micd up if you can get the mic mounted in a good spot.

      @@JackMuren I don't want to put the mic in the helmet because of moisture and breathing. 10 minutes of me breathing into a mic would drive off even me. My next step is to move it up to the collar some how. When I was using the built on clip that is where I was putting it but it wouldn't stay attached. I'll have to come up with something eventually but look forward to more videos of me talking to the camera and no audio. I almost fell out of my chair when I watched that, just knew I had to throw that in.

      Thanks Jack, for me it is really hard to manage distance on those. I want to retreat to the goal line when they are coming at me at fast but I know I'm supposed to stay at the top of the crease. And 77 got me to bite hard on the first goal. When he pulled back back I thought the puck was coming and he went around me as I dropped.

    • @JackMuren
      @JackMuren 8 месяцев назад

      @@NerdrageHockey yeah, breakaways are tough. We are supposed to be patient, but I feel like it's really hard to react to those low snap shots in close. It is important to maintain depth to take away as much space to shoot as possible. If they get in close, we are covering the lower part of the net and crowding the puck with our gloves and upper body as much as possible. You came out and forced most of the guys to shoot early, which is great, and they mostly shot wide, which is even better. Nice job out there!

    Not sure why this video didn't pop up in my RUclips feed. Not sure how i missed it. Time off from skating can make strapping the pads back on pretty tough. Looked like you forgot to hook up your suspenders...lol. That probably didn't help things. You made some great saves. That Mutiny team looked pretty fast. You held your ground in your crease very well. Made some good stick saves. Really sucked you were having cramping issues. That must be awful to try and play through. Thought you played a good game. Way to fight through that pain and stick with it.

      I drink at least 3 large cups of coffee a day or I get a head ache. Typically I play Saturday mornings so I'll have a cup on the way to the game and hydrate before and finish my coffee after the game. This was a 10:45pm game on a Monday and I did everything but hydrate and eat well. Then it was the first game in a month in a higher league against the first place team so I told the team I was subbing for that they are really scraping the bottom of the barrel if they wanted me but desperate times call for desperate measures. That being said I let 2 goals in for leg cramping, 1 off camera and goal 5 I really couldn't crouch and get set so was standing when he shot. The team played great in front of me, If it wasn't for those 2 it was a 3-2 game.

      @@NerdrageHockeyit's hard for us goalies not to overthink goals against. Knowing we should have had a particular shot or having certain expectations of our own play in any given skate. Physical limitations, physical exhaustion from work, and even our daily food intake most definitely impacts our play. Sucks to be out there and not be able to perform up to our usual expectation for ourselves, but it happens to all of us. Don't be too hard on yourself. Your play wasn't bad. Get 'em next time.

      @@JackMuren Thanks Jack! On bright side I am 2% more mobile in the new skates. I watched a video saying to keep your chest big, my paddle down style doesn't do this so I am making a consciouse effort to keep a big chest lately. Not as evident in this game but my other game I did a much better job at it, but it changes my balance, not so much weight forward actually makes it a lot easier to slide and the toes actually dig into the ice with the new skates. There is a spot in this game where I over slide 0:42, honestly the first time I have ever done that.

    Great save there at 7:20!! You didn't see a ton of rubber in this game, but you made some good saves at key points. The team names are fun and i think it's really cool that the gals have their own team. They played very well. I felt so bad for their goalie on multiple goals. There were some very weird goals scored, some on screened shots. She did play very well. Nice job getting the win. You looked like you had a good time.
