Anymore vids ? I'm picking mine up at the weekend and it's pretty much the same . So it's good to see how you've got on with yours 👌
@@deanrichardson7090 just in the process of replacing the rear panel at the moment, I only get time to work on it once a week so unfortunately videos may take a little bit of time to come
@@clumpfab2740 that's sound boss I've been and picked mine up at the weekend .. it's a little bit more tender then I thought it would be but a good project to get on with .. I'll have a look when you fire another vid up .. might even do one me Sen
@@deanrichardson7090 they always need more than they look on the surface 🤣 I was hoping this one would be a quick fix but now it’s turned into a full blown restoration, I’d love to see yours if your putting vids up
@@clumpfab2740 they most definitely do mate I'll get a video fired up once I start tucking into it . Just waiting to get floor and walls painted in unit then I'll be at it .. I take it yours is on the strip down ?
Loving this series! Had 2 Escort vans in the mid 90s - One B plate mK3 RS turbo top to bottom (in diamond white) and one C plate but Mk4 (painted bright yellow) with an XR2 engine, single piece rear door, slammed and full RS Turbo Recaro (light grey) interior, which was sold, and the new owner (based in Boston IIRC) turned into a 4x4 Cosworth and was feat in Fast Ford
Waste of time😮
Loving this project! 👍👍👍
Definitely turned into a major job now 🤣
@@clumpfab2740It has been a slippery slope but you may as well go all in now!! Painted underside, everything powder coated, zinc plated hardware etc etc. . . . Then put it on my club stands at next year’s shows with mirrors underneath it! 😀
Nice progress! I have yet to start mine and i dread what I will find as its been welded up before and has tons of bodyfiller to the point where the arches look deformed. And if yours needed it then I will probably need to get some leefspring mounts fabbed up for me
You couldn't stop these MK4 Escort vans rusting. Brilliant back in the day and still are.
Great to see project on the move 👌👍
Doing a great job 👍
i realy like u just get on with the job no faffing about , great job
brilliant i been waiting for updates on your cool van
Definitely more to come 😊
@@clumpfab2740 look forward too em
Volume of chat low, blew my ears off when the music started!
My bad 🤦♂️ I’m terrible at editing and still learning how to work it. Fingers crossed I can get better at it soon 😊
@@clumpfab2740 Early days, looking forward to the rest and end result...
nice to see you again
Thanks been a little while trying to fit these in as well as work
Omg a Chrysler Talbot sunbeam, l still remember the slogan sung by Petula Clark. Folks if l am wrong remind me. " Put a Chrysler sunbeam in your life" Wow that takes me back. Keep up the good work Mateeeee . From Melbourne Australia 😳😮😁🐨🐊🦘🐊🐨
wow...lot of work on panels...great job
nice to see ya bk m8 you bk in bissness now are ya m8
I know this man
Looking forward to more videos doing mk4 van myself hard to find restoration videos for vans
the days when the only faults with transits was a bit of rust...
Great work horses that rusted badly.
Where did you get the floor pans
Hi just some eBay specials, they are for a standard escort car but with a bit of modification will fit the van
What make and model is your car lift?, any good?
I’m not too sure, the stickers are well worn away, I think it’s a cheap make, I’ve had it easily 8 years and bought it second hand back then from a mechanic garage where it got some hard use then. It’s never let me down and very handy highly rate it for sill work is ideal.
Is it worth it?
Value of van wise definitely not….. saving another Ford definitely 👍
Bit like a relationship, throw time and money at it, get a few good rides and time with it, it goes rusty and siezes up, does n't start or ride properly, then you look for another!😂
Of course it is.. imagine the sense of achievement when he's finished it.
I've seen alot worse MK3 and MK4 escort vans but people still rebuild them he's a experienced welder fabricator so it will get done
👍👍
do you still see marcus since you down-sized
Great kit and look forward to seeing more in this van
Quality that mate well done
class job !!!
Thank you
Gonna be a really nice van dude I’d love one of these there really nice 👍
I drove those at British Telecom and if you didn't know, they were classed as a HGV due to having a GVM over 3500kg. They could not be driven on a B category car licence. You needed a minimum of a C1 licence or higher C licence. If you are going to remove the cherry picker in order to bring it back under 3500kg and within the B category car licence , then you would need to submit a fresh weight declaration to DVSA. I believe this would require a specialist certificate confirming the new GVM before DVSA will then issue a new plate. If this isn't done, it will still be classed as a HGV even without the cherry picker as well as still falling under a higher HGV MOT category and a higher driving licence category . And you are correct, all existing BT vehicles were resprayed grey around 1992/3 when they changed from the old pre privatisation post office yellow. However, they didn't respray any vehicles when BT subsequently dropped the grey in favour of the new white in the late 90s. Instead, simply introducing the new white colour as older grey vehicles were replaced.
Yeah this is a gross weight of 4000kg so need a c1 license, I’m hoping to get it downplated with dvla to 3500kg to make life easier with mots etc. it was last owned by a crane company for agricultural use so it’s also registered as limited use taxation class too which means I need to get all this changed so I have a bit of a paperwork challenge on my hands 🤣
Wow what a job to do especially on your own, you are a legend, can't wait till the next video, good luck 👍
Thank you so much 😀
Nice one Chris that was a good idea welding the plate on and using the hydraulic Jack it worked a treat 👍🏻 have you been doing some work on your escort van mate?
Thank you, I’ve done this before in the past using heavy duty chains which is the better option but it works and then simply cut them off and sand welds down so you can re use the drums, escort van is now on a rollover jig and just put a vid out, hoping to start on the welding this weekend ( I only get Sundays off to work on them 😅 )
'Im not gonna go mad with it' . . . . . . Thats what we all say Chris!!! 😃. . . . . Full resto inbound then?? 🤔
Haha 😂 nope litrally just going to get it back on the road and use it as a van for a little while. I wanted to get on the Capri project but the escort van turned into a bigger job than planned 🤣 so the transits definitely not going down that route. Hopefully have the escort van on the road for summer for some meets
👍👍
Another great project on the horizon.👌👍
nice project subbed u for more
Considering its an escort van it could be a whole lot worse.
It’s in great shape for a mk4, well worth doing the proper way
😀👍👍👍
Plenty to do but she's in good hands! 👍 I look forward to future updates. 👍
Thanks was hoping it would be a quick turn around to use for this summer 😳 still possible but worth doing properly. I still keep up on or your videos and loving the progress on Heidi 👍
@@clumpfab2740 Looks like you could deal with the main structural bits and then throw it together so you can use it in the summer. You can always finish it properly in the Autumn. . . . . Im enjoying getting stuck in with 'Heidi'. Took me aaaages to actually make a start after you welded it up for me but now I'v got some momentum going. 👍
Can’t wait for the next one mate 👍🏻
Looking forward to it 👍
Mine maybe not ex royal mail but ex mobility high top. From 97 it's the first one I owned and being restored
These were great vans. Real workhorses. They never gave much trouble but they did use to rust ! Wish I still had mine. I think you'll enjoy doing this one up. Looking forward to your future episodes.
Get that thing a turbo
This will be a nice project to follow , love an old escort van! Look forward to watching you work your magic on it. 👌
I bought several if those ex Royal Mail escort vans in the early 90s because they were always around 3 years old with generally low mileage when they went to auction, often 50 vehicles at a time so prices were always quite reasonable. There was never a passenger seat in Royal Mail Escort vans so always had to head to the breakers yard for a matching set of seats. There was also a wooden bulk head behind drivers seat so if you find spare rivet nuts top and bottom, you know it previously had one. The paint code should confirm that it was originally Royal Mail Red. If the fuel filter housing failed then it would quickly go from poor starting to not starting at all due to air getting sucked in to the system (it happened now and then). Easily diagnosed by simply bypassing the fuel filter with a length of hose and if that was the problem, then replacing the filter housing for around £15. If you are going to bypass the filter to diagnose if its faulty, it's a good idea to use clear hose and you can then see the fuel coming up the hose to the pump. And don't forget to change the timing belt. When they fail, they usually bend the valves which are then difficult to remove from the head without breaking the valve guides and obviously, a new head is then required. The gearbox mounts would also split which then felt like the engine was coming out of the vehicle when the clutch was released from stationary. Again, very cheap and easy to replace.
hiya m8 hope things working out for you I couldn't believe that you closed doors and not doin what you are so so god dame good at my car is still rust free even thoe I've not touched it since I got it bk from you all the best for whatever you got planned for now m8 mick
I allways so wanted one !!!! A 1.8 D Proper strong engine, my poor little mk3 1.3 3 door Escort was a deathtrap, but id so love it back to this day
So that's what my XR3i cabby is based on. I remember we had these as BT vans, always loved the small window behind the door.
Fuel solenoid on the pump with be sticking. Give it a tap
I do love mk4 vans. Keep us updated as you get started on it.
Well that's one way to move it 😂. Yea ex royal mail van sounds logical. At least the glass will be relatively easy to get out.
