I hate to admit it, but it was kinda a happy accident.
Charge the grenade launcher and shoot and roll and shoot, kills him easily. I've played all 5 games and this boss is one of my favorites

I've never been able to win those clench situations with those big red dudes. I'm not sure if I've ever even seen the win animation on those before just now. How do u do it?
To win what the game calls "power struggles" it's all just about rotating the analogsticks n button mashing, back in the day it was written down in the instruction manual. Hope that helps you out.
ah thanks, I don't recall if my copy came with an instruction manual i always bought used. but maybe fiddling with the analog sticks was what i needed to do in conjunction with the button mashing. Though it seems like it would be difficult to button mash and use the analog sticks at the same time tho. @@Feeble_Creature
