I just completed The Witcher 3 and i wish i watched this before playing

There is awful lot going on in this game, figuratively and literally. But its more broad, than deep. It is mostly a set of comments on the connection between belief, trust and fraud. Such as: - Once Indika fully accepts that the Church she follows is a lie, the devil in the mirror disappears. The devil was contingent on there being a "God", (as associated with the Devil). So, she is left finally facing herself, and her responsibility for her choices and life. The voices in her head, are merely her own. Not a devil or an angel. Just the inner dialog, between her natural urges, and those that civilization, (the church) has put there. - The beliefs in her head, previously led to her selling out her real love, (or was that lust?). Such that her father shot him as a thief. (Which perhaps he was, which is another strand of the 'belief in false things' thing). A big part of that, simply, being the problem of telling people apart. (In that light, we later see how Ilya is willing to kill to save himself. The jail keeper will lie to make what he then does easier). - The dog story, is basically about how, we as humans suppress our primal urges. We call them sinful. But through the Church we also blame our failures on temptation, by demons. The question being are they really sinful. Or are we just weak? How do we decide what is right or wrong? Or meaningful. Ilya? The Father? The boy who tricks her? The Nuns? The Priests? The jail keeper? Where is the line between following our natural urges, and stopping them for the sake of others, or civilization at large (the greater good?)? What is too much? What is too little? Who should do it? And how can we trust those given authority? - Ilya also represents War, and the beliefs that go along with it. A belief in the nation and church. A belief in the afterlife. A day of judgement. Here his belief is such, that he thought he could be healed by the artifact if he was wounded in war. - There is also consideration of gamification of life, through the short games. From the platform collection of coins, to the pac man like collection of coins, we see how life can be turned into simply a series of goals, that involve collecting things or doing things, that provide some small reward. This being done in the hope of advancing on to better things, or one big thing at the end (e.g. go to heaven, live longer, be healthy, etc.). - Here that "big thing" is the ultimately empty artifact. (A McGuffin). We see it is no better than the other items the pawn broker has. Its value to Ila having changed dramatically, from something that can save his arm/life, to something of almost no value. Because his beliefs have changed. We then see Indikas do the same. She wants it to work and the little coins come out, and she keeps going collecting the coins, waiting for the miracle, but when she is forced to face the reality, and stops and opens it, she finally sees the truth. Its a lie. Just an ordinary object. No miracles. - So, in part the game is asking, why we should not act on our primal urges if the church is a fraud, but also, how those urges need to be controlled to avoid, theft, violence, murder, rape. And its also looking at how those urges can be sublimated in to control of people, and/or materialism. That it implies includes "game playing". And in that sense the game is somewhat oddly self-denigrating. Since it compares gaming, to an essentially empty act, that keeps us playing in a game that is ultimately pointless. This perhaps implies, our time could be better spent elsewhere? Or maybe it suggests nothing matters at all, so do whatever you like. So, its about existential post-christian angst. And, as I see it, ultimately its a piece of existentialism, about the absurd nature of life, (if you don't believe in [a] God.

I loved playing this game as a kid, something about creating my own epic character and progressing through the story felt great. Never knew how deep the story really was until I grew up tho 😂😂😂 I don't remember much of this, and I'm glad cause it prolly would've kinda traumatised me.

Finally a good summary, when i read the book its ye olde english style of narration not modernized one which made my brain confused and irritating😅

last part indica saw herself not anymore demon cause indika lost her faith, demon succesful doing his job and leaving indika in lost, this is why she saw herself in mirror, for me this game interesting, i just done finished today, but leaving me lot of unsatiesfied and question, if u feel this too, mean you sick as me 😅

Emhyr is even worse than this (spoilers): he forced Yenn and Geralt to kill themselves, (even though Geralt protected him in his cursed form, and the two partially raised and protected Ciri), in order to hide the truth about Ciri, and the two only survived because Ciri reached them in time; he is responsible for instigating racial tension and violence in the North, then executing the insurgents for political gain; he makes a habit of publicly torturing and killing those who fail him or are simply deemed disposable, including officers and sorceresses; he massacred Cintra, Ciri's home and birthright, along with the royal family- Ciri barely escaped, etc. He is the villain of the books and after the events of TW2 and the subsequent betrayal of the School of the Viper, there is an absolute zero chance that Geralt, Ciri and Yenn would side with him. If they helped kill Radovid, he would order them killed because they're dangerous loose ends and kingslaying sets a precedent that other rulers can't allow. That being said, he did have a change of heart regarding his daughter and her adopted parents, in the books. He no longer wants to boink her, and has some level of respect towards Geralt, although the witcher despises him.

The meaning to me was: she definitely lost her faith in the end. And by stopping believing in God, the devil in her also disappeared, since it was part of the faith-package. When you shake the object in the end, all your "holy points" go to waste, so the less holy she was, the less evil she also was. That's my interpretation btw

A perfect depiction of the reality of depravity that comes with religion. People who believe they can be forgiven by an imaginary god are the most dangerous, this videogame shows why.

Was there an option where Indika don't shake the kudet? Because after 2 or 3 shakes an option to leave it pops up.. Does it change anything?

Nice vid :) Though I do wanna point out Geralt regaining his memories (flashbacks) is also very relevant to W3, arguably the most important. Also the Letho battle is totally optional and you can forgive him, which is most likely what book Geralt would do considering the circumstances. Good research in any case!

I think the story implies religion is a game, a made up story with no substance. In the end she realizes the artifact is worthless, and she’s all alone.

First time Witcher player here! Started today and I was like, maaaaybe I should learn the backstory before this game. This video did just that, thanks!

Thanks for taking the time to make this. It is slightly misleading, that you tell only some of the branching story lines while others are left out. BG3 allows many more choices.

I just finished the game after spending lot of time getting all collectibles I love this game so much it's so fun great story combat collectibles and ofc and amazing smoking hot main characters. There was a few unanswered questions I hope get touched on in sequel

Time of Contempt is my least favorite book of the series Tbh... I just don't like the last chapters and it's too short/fast paced for my taste. The video was great tho! Perfect to listen while gaming. And Baptism is my favorite book, can't wait for that!

Thanks ! I actually played through Witcher 1-2 but most of the story is kind of fuzzy ...Now I'm playing W3 for the first time ! This helps a lot.

I think something that us Indika community are missing is at the direct end, when the artifact is proven to be just a piece of junk, she loses the demon but one of the last images she sees is a painting of Christ Jesus. This to me meant that God still exists, it's just that God doesn't exist in the stupid pieces of junk and lies that humans create, such as the Kuddets Artifact that is a lie created by human to heal the disabled to cure the sick. And then again maybe the artifact did work for Indika as the demon was gone, but Christ was still there in the photo on the wall half hidden by a plank of wood.
