Hi, thanks for being a subscriber. I haven’t measured on this layout, the top is two 1” thick layers of foam which is really dense sheets. The sound deadening really comes in when I lay the woodland scenics road bed. It’s super soft and noise absorbent foam. If you watch some of my older videos on my prior layout, that’s how it was built. Super quiet, I hope that helps.

Thank you, yes, I will be adding elevation for sure, most likely not on the outside loop on this one. My last one had all loops with some degree of inclines and declines.

Yes! On the preowned market I find good deals at train shows also. Typically closer to the $30 to $50 range for MTH Premier cars, Atlas, or K-Line scale cars. 👍🏻

I’ve never thought of it that way, I do enjoy the sounds of the older trains. I run my prewar and post war stuff pretty often, just because it’s fun, the distinct smell, and sounds. 🙂

Yes! The prices have been exceeding the original cost of modern stuff for so many pieces these days, really started during Covid. Before then Visionline was selling for about what it cost new. Now a lot of stuff is selling that was used and at or above new prices. It was only a matter of time when collectors of modern caught up with the amount produced. Modern will do like postwar, which always sells for much more than its original price unless total junk.

I think I like the sounds since I grew up about 100 yards or so from a mainline. Many nights I fell asleep to the squeaks and creaks of passing trains. We had our windows open whenever we could. Hi, no, I sold a lot of my N collection on eBay back in 2017 and a couple things here and there, but stopped selling on eBay because fees and tax stuff made it not worth it for me to sell there anymore and I have a lot of contacts and friends that now buy from me when I decide to sell stuff.

Agree, like some speakers I used to sell back in the day, I’ll leave the brand name out, but costs $30 to make and people spent $1500 for the set because the brand name, sounded decent, but a lot of other speakers sounded better for less. 😉

I mainly buy purple boxes for sure, occasionally something orange, but mostly purple or blue Alex. 👍🏻

any car with a radio board is going to like150 right off the bat. I mean, MTH doesn't even offer cool items like this. If its not for you or out of your budget then so be it.

Yep! I have been on a Z Scale buying kick lately John! Made in the good old USA or Germany, there is still hope for some good quality US made train products, just might not be everyone’s favorite scale, but my layout and brief cases I took to the show with me to display were a huge hit, from a little foot print! lol. Maybe big L will bite the bullet one day and bring some manufacturing back home.

I glue roadbed to the foam then ballast the track to the roadbed. Right now it’s just sitting on the foam, if I leave it a while before applying the roadbed, I’ll pin the track in place with foam pins that woodland scenics had available.

I can never find the perfect ones, I have them in Walthers and Proto in HO, I have a Lionel Standard Gauge set, Weaver O Guage set, two different sets of K-Line 21” cars, an N scale set, two different MTH premier sets, and now this set of Lionel, and the 15” inch old school style Lionel cars. None may be perfect, but they are all fun to watch for me. 🙂 what’s your favorite Hiawatha car set that you have?

Sorry to hear you’re have trouble and others as well. The other thing that doesn’t work is auto sequencing. On a 990. When you hold down aux1 it engages auto announcements and sounds on legacy equipped products for realistic sounds and announcements. It doesn’t work on that car stand a lone or lashed up. Hopefully Lionel figured out the issue. Thanks for your information as well. Now we know it’s just not a couple people but several, so a manufacturer defect.
