How I saved my dad's life.
For all those who helped and supported us through such a difficult time, we made it - we saved my dads life. No one should have to be confined to 4 walls with no mobility, no hope. His suicide was 'understandable', but for me, it meant he needed help and support (and fast!) that he wasn't getting from our health system. Even lotteries denied him funding for mobility equipment stating 'they had already spent the funds this year'. Our fundraising efforts first paid for eye surgery to correct his vision so he could see well enough to use a power wheelchair. He now had a brilliant chair, perfect for him, and he's a different, much happier man! Without your help, I would have lost my dad, and ...

Reflections of a tetraplegic

I wrote about my experience soon after my car accident where I sustained a broken neck. It's a bit depressing now I look back on it, but I've also found it encouraging as I know how far I've come, mentally, with dealing with becoming a tetraplegic. Sorry if i sound like a bit of a kiwi dick!

Wheelchair Accessible Home

I'm Claire, a chick from New Zealand with a broken neck who uses a wheelchair and this is a quick tour around my accessible home I saved for, designed and built. In true kiwi style, I point all the good and crap bits of my modern home. With my view, you'd think I was a gazillionaire, but I bought a section when no one wanted the land and put all my savings into building this beauty. For more ab...

I’m happy you chose living rather than dying. I have been paralyzed or quadriplegic since 1996. I know I messaged you before and asked why you advocate self-suicide. Perhaps I wasn’t in my right mind either as I struggle with life and pushing forward. I looked for answers because I couldn’t stare down my entire life living without the ability to walk. It was until I opened the Bible that my hope sprouted. I really thought I could tackle and get back up, but than I read about the desperation of them that looked for a greater Hope. Some received miracles but some died with hope there was more than this world has for anyone. I was shot. I thought I was going to die, but in the ambulance, I confessed my short comings and little good I done in life to God. I closed my eyes to die. I asked Him not let me die in the name of Jesus. I still closed my eyes but I didn’t die but prep to. I end up paralyzed from C-7-C-6. There something about praying to God through Jesus because the gravitational pull starts to pull us upwards. Who is Jesus? God? My heart drew me to open the Bible to find out. I was interested in miracles but sometimes they never come, and I started accepting my disability. The cross of Jesus was my study. He was the Son of God, and He came not in a glory or beauty that’s jaw dropping but human deformity. There IS miracles but the real promise to give us eternal life after this world passes away in fire. When we know this life isn’t set nor the only life it offers, we can look up with a heart burning for something better. Eternal Joy in Him. By accepting Him we receive ever life by believing He saves us from the second death. Life isn’t easy. For years, I pushed forward. I shared Jesus, but I struggled with pain and rejection. I know God loves me, but unfortunately the world doesn’t as they look away from my struggles. As I pushed forward, I started to feel the weight of pushing a paralyzed body forward. Upholding a smile was a heavy weight. I know God knows my struggles. I know my life and who I once was and why I was shot. Life was vain once, and being shot that left me paralyzed wasn’t my first time shot. I was shot in the head in 1993. I was an all star athlete that turned into a popular gangster just for being shot. I needed to get paralyzed. I wouldn’t have given no time to seek higher to have the Most High reach down to lift me up. In 2014, it was than I truly heard God with the Son of God speaking. I was awake on my wheelchair talking to Two Beings. It was the Son of God and Father. I still can’t believe that God spoke to me. I’m not asking for you to believe me, but I hope it stokes up within you a flame of Hope to pray, ask God Himself “Are you there?” Open the Bible. Prove God right. Prove God wrong. The Bible has amazing stories. There’s people that have been debilitated for 38 years that looked for hope from Heaven. I believe these stories are for people like you, dad, mom, as for me. Give time to prayer. There’s angels ready to assist you. The time is soon when we’ll see Jesus raise people from the dead unto life everlasting. This is why Jesus died and rose from the dead to give us hope in Him. I pray you believe. Believe in Jesus. Jesus is true. God is real. It’s not only our story but His Story. God bless in Jesus, Nicolas Santos May Jesus be glorified. Amen.

Merry Christmas to you, your Dad and your extended family Claire xo
It’s so good to see disabled people talking about intimacy, my partner has an sci and too often people assume he is somehow less interested in sex. Absolutely not the case, in fact our sex life is a million times better now, we are more open with each other and connect in so many different ways. I still struggle with people’s assumptions about so much of our life, we must normalise disability.
The voice volume is low and the music volume is high, otherwise great!

Claire! Did you injure your neck bone in a 1995 bicycle accident? I can only hear the fragmentary English words you are speaking, so please forgive me if I make a mistake. Takashi. PS, I think you shouldn't wear too dark eye makeup 😃

you are very strong women . keep it up .
I agree with what your saying however I believe in assisted suicide for people who are at the end of their tether in terms of ongoing pain which is only going to get worse with age. I know people with spinal injuries who have tried all they can in terms of relief over many years into their retirement age only to be prescribed more medication, wearing a bag 24/7 and have ongoing care with absolutely nil quality of life. Even on outings the pain gets so unbearable they just want to go home and lie down. Shoulders, thumbs, wrists are now overused from pushing the chair for many years adding to the back pain. Assisted suicide should then be an option (with a strict pre psychological and medical assessment) before the green light is given. I myself been in a chair for 39 years and would like to go with dignity should my quality of life get that bad in my aging years.
Such a good interview! I think is very important to talk about this things on media ❤️
Life is a struggle; Look at others full bodies/half bodies in VN or other poor Asian Countries you will appreciate that you have your wonderful country to look after you on ALL aspects; Please forget to stress your body like doing Ph.D.; Do something to build up your spirit and physique is a more practical way. DEATH is not the answer; DEATH is denial/ coward Cheers LDB AUSTRALIA
