I love the idea of it, I bought one for my bow but the added weight of the phone on the front of the bow was kind of messing me up. I’ll practice more with it when season is over for sure.

After I put the camo skirt on stand, I zip tie a bunch of branches to outside of stand for even more cover. I like to cut the branches with green leaves cause once the leaves die on the branch, they will not blow off. They will stay on for the whole season. Also grape vines in the 3/4 inch diameter size work good for scrape limbs. I just drill a hole in the grapevine and wire tie it to an existing branch. Great video!

Looks great! I am using a Millinium Buck Hut this year. There are no good trees with cover in the area that I will hunt for bow season.

Telling Grandpa he can’t shoot a 4 point is no different than when you told him when he was 25 years old he could not shoot a doe. The deer heard isn’t what it once was. As the heard changes and grows, the hunting strategies, bag limits, and laws must change with it. DMU’s with the “out of control” doe populations should be put under a doe only regulation for one to two years. Imagine the number of 1.5 and 2.5 year old bucks that would suddenly all be 2.5 and 3.5 year olds. It’s all good to talk about moving the needle. We know how to move it but because the way to do it won’t be popular we won’t do it. In short the law makers are probably never going to do what needs to be done to make it happen. To much red tape. Hunters are going to have to step up and do what needs to be done within the guidelines of current regulations. As far as making Michigan a destination state, I would be careful what you wish for. Most of us find it hard enough to find a place to hunt and we don’t need to have any additional competition brought in from out of state. All you are going to accomplish is driving up land and hunting lease prices higher than they already are. The craze of everyone wanting to shoot a monster buck rather than enjoying the great outdoors and the sport of deer hunting as a whole is going to make hunting a rich man’s sport. Which is not going to increase deer hunter numbers but rather continue to make it decline. Good podcast.

What in the hell

In Michigan the DNR said we have to register any deer taken during hunting season 2 years ago. The DNR is supposed to manage the deer herd. Knowing how many deer were shot in no way shows how many deer were left. Just another way to control hunters by the anti-hunters.

Would we have the Surplus Deer 🦌 problem if the Youth hunt was initially Does only ? Plus all other extra Hunts !

i been saying it is time to get rid of the youth hunt and go back to the old tag system like it was when i first started to hunt one tag for bow and one tag for gun and no more doe hunting they had to stop doe hunting back in the 60s and did not bright it back untill the mid 80s as the deer herd was way down. upper michigan here

It's purely wrong to take away the right of the disabled deer hunters to take a buck deer during the liberty and independence deer hunts.

It’s pretty easy to see what the issue is. We have grandparents making rules for the kids and the kids don’t like it. We have people stuck in the 70’s and 80’s making regulations in 2024. Thank you for taking the time to cover this👍.

I moved to Southwest Michigan in January from western North Carolina. In my area, I could only shoot 1 doe, an d could only do so on one specific day. In addition we could shoot 5 bucks. I moved to Van Buren county and I’m amazed at the amount of doe’s here and a limit of 10 on the hunting licenses.

Welp the 8 point world record says yes. And my grandfathers 12 point from 1957 also says yes.

Michigan could have some of the biggest bucks in the country if they had age. But the DNR wants them dead as fast as possible. He doesn’t care about the quality of bucks we harvest… at all.

This meeting was not run by the Roberts Rules or anything even close. A petition could be filed and this entire meeting would not have happened. The Chair and Director are #ucking morons to not even know how to properly run a meeting of the importance of this one. Seriously could be challenged and the meeting will have not happen...

It would appear to get the committee to properly manage the deer herd in Michigan talking to the commissioners directly way months prior to the voting meeting would be a good use of time.

The people that want big bucks, fine make them purchase a more expensive trophy tag. Those who are willing to shoot does or 7 points or less can purchase a cheaper tag. If you shoot a bigger buck or a "Trophy" by mistake you would be fined and lose you hunting privilege for next year.

Michigan needs a 3yr suspension of a "Buck" license. Only does for 3yrs. 3 per year harvest. That will fix michigan

The issue isn’t apr or earn a buck. It’s that hunters want trophies. You’re in that problem. The state allows every hunter to take 12 deer, up to 12 of them being does. That isn’t enough to get people to shoot does. You’re trying to force hunters into what they don’t want so you have a hope of a bigger trophy. Unless you shot 12 does last year in effort to balance the heard, all I’m hearing is “I don’t want to put effort to make things better, I want to regulate others into doing what I don’t want to do”.

The hunters don’t show up to the meetings because they’ve given up hope with these clowns!

Chad… you say only 30,000 2nd bucks are killed in Michigan and changing to a 1 buck state more than likely won’t do anything to age class but you avoid the fact that if we went to a 1 buck state there will be a lot more hunters being VERY PICKY with what they shoot. Most people use the second buck tag to hold out on a big buck that they never see most of the time🤷🏻‍♂️ I will hold a grudge on this state for a long time and I will continue hunting Ohio where it’s night and day compared to Michigan.

Michigan absolutely has big bucks. My buddy puts his trail cams out on public land every year and some of the pictures that he sends me are ridiculous. They are difficult to hunt and for the most part become nocturnal during the hunting season once the pressure has been applied.

I think most people would be a lot more selective if they only had one buck tag. Guys know that they can shoot a small buck, like a spike, and they still have that other buck tag in their pocket. If they only have one buck tag, people will hold off for a bigger, more mature buck knowing that if they shoot that spike or fork horn, they are done shooting bucks for the year. I also think having one buck tag will help increase the antlerless harvest in the state.

Chad and the DNR have failed Michigan hunters. This state consistently under performs compared to our neighboring states. ALL they ever say is "not APRs or 1 buck...", but NEVER have a solution. Newsflash...this problem won't correct itself in a year or 2. It will need 3 or more years to achieve full benefit. 1 buck and cheap doe tags(depending on DMU census) starts things in the right direction. I wish the interviewers weren't so delicate with Chad. Discuss the facts and demand people answer questions (professionally), that's their job as a public worker.

Born and raised is mid michigan. We def can grow some big bucks, however there are still so many hunters that shoot anything that moves. If that makes them happy that is fine. But i would love to see the price of doe tags drop. Heck even going to 1 buck a year on odd years, then 2 bucks a year on even years would be ok. Ive been fortunate enough to harvest a handful of bucks over 130” so it’s possible. Explaining to my boys that this is the last year to harvest a buck in youth season sucks though. I was never a fan of the youth season going until the kids are 16yrs old. I feel if they have to pass Hunter safety then they can hunt with everybody else. So youth season until 12yrs old would be awesome.

How many people shoot small bucks first and then hold out for a trophy and never tag 2 bucks.
