So I'm not the only one who thinks the same thing about drifting in Generations specifically! Idk what it is about the drift that i like it so much in this specific Sonic game, but i simply just do. Doing it just feels so good! Like you said, it's a small thing and kind of weird to be cared so much about, but it's just amazing personally. Good video!

Tbh, i kinda the Unleashed drift. However, i love the one in Generations. The Colors one(technically Colors Ultimate, since thats the only one that i played) is fine enough, ig.

I have a mod that replaces the drifting sound with that weird ass cartoon running sound effect. Only problem is that I play on keyboard which is difficult to drift on :(

Sadly I don't think they'll bring back the drift in shadow generations.

I don't care what anyone says, overall sonic animations in generations is better than in unleashed. Unleashed animation is not bad but it's a bit stiff. I really like sonic doing the adventure pose when he finishes doing tricks in generations.

I 100% agree with you I think the drift as it appears in Generations is one of my favorite Sonic abilities, it's so cool and the way it squashes and turns as you lean into it is just wonderful.

okay but what if after you held drift for a second or so little sparks started flying off the back and when you released it you got a small boost depending on how long you charged it for?

I can’t lie, when playing gens, the part I look forward to the most is drifting! Especially for rooftop run Act 2.

I used to prefer the Unleashed/Colors drift but I really came around on the stretchball drift. It's a way to keep the spindash alive in the modern movekit and it just feels more powerful.

while i do think that both animations are cool, i love the ball drift because it ties into sonics moveset of being able to curl into a ball which boost games only really showcase with his jump. the stretchy ball is so silly and goofy but super satisfying i love it

Generations still always be my favorite sonic game, the drift is so so satisfying to pull off and it's look - this video is my thoughts exactly

A sidenote on drifting in Sonic: Sonic Riders handles it beautifully. It's downright critical in almost every turn, and the snap-second decision between a feathered drift for a safe turn or a full drift for a boost is always on my mind every time there's the slightest bend in the track. S&SAS Racing is great, don't get me wrong, but I'm still waiting on a fourth Riders to course-correct the spinoff after 0G muddied the waters and Free Riders tanked the entire thing.

Thank you!! The Generations Drift is so unique to sonic as well, it’s such a cool touch that you’d only see in a sonic game. Also nice choice of outfit. Also from what we’ve seen so far of Shadow Generations gameplay, it’s built upon the Frontiers moveset so he may not have a drift •(

Nice video, I do prefer the Unleashed drift, but the ball is still really cool. I also noticed the mod you're using, and I wanted to ask: what do you think about the Transfem Sonic mod, by Lunanova? I kinda prefer it since it does not only give Sonic a look that I feel fits the character more, but does a lot of small changes to fit it much better with the game. If you don't know about it, I suggest you check it out!

I have high hopes for shadow having a good drift

tbh I like lost word jump/gens drift in total it’s smooth, but not just a huge textureless sphere

I always found this animation very funny. Like it was pretty cool when I first saw it, but after playing more Sonic games it's just so funny how Sonic immediately turns into an oval. I feel like the more standard drifting animation where Sonic anchors himself using his hand makes more sense for a drifting motion, specially since Sonic needs to act quickly and curling into a ball might not be very viable, but I feel like the ball drift would make sense if it worked more similarly to an actual kart game drift, like leaning more into the spin dash association and have the ball drift be Sonic actually charging up a spindash as he slides across the ground and then shoots off in whatever direction he is pointing at the end at the cost of some boost or whatever. Either way, seeing Sonic actually curl into a ball is exciting either way, he doesn't tend to do that much in the modern games.

gens' drift might be my favorite for sonic in general (honestly though so is everything else about his moveset, i need more sonic games where he controls exactly like he does in gens that is PEAK modern sonic) but ironically enough i vastly prefer his animation in other games for the drift. i like the spinball fine and i really like how it heavily nods to the spindash but something about the way he anchors himself with his hands has always just been way cooler ti me lol

everybody sings the praises of the Engage The Enemy and Counterattack bits, but my favorite piece taken from a xenoblade 2 ost would be 1:03 - 1:12 of The Weight Of Life, splayed here at 8:41 in the video. it's from Walking With You, specifically the part you may remember playing over dialogue such as rex's "i walked in the shadow of the aegis's light, while she walked alone" or malos's "i'm a wretched being too! a hideous monster far beyond saving!" in the context of xenoblade 2, it is the culmination of all the grief and bad circumstances every character experienced, the passage that all that tragedy is laid bare. however, in the context of xenoblade 3, it works a bit differently. rather than being the climax of the song, it is now the ignition that kickstarts something greater.
