Another beautiful day of riding in East Central Ohio. The day did have a missing road on the route and a GPS that decided to lock up right when I needed it.

A beautiful days ride on the Towpath Trail from Massillon to Dover Ohio turned into a long hilly headwind road ride into Coshocton. In the end the kindness of strangers made the entire days ride completely worth it.

Day 1 of a 4 day trip through Central Ohio, Amish Country and North East Ohio. Todays ride started with a rail trail and roads leading to the ever popular OTET. A perfect day of riding in the early fall leading to an overnight camp spot at the Bridge of Dreams in Danville, Ohio.

Looking forward to the promise of a flat days ride, we were surprised by a detour that lead us to more hike-a-bike and loose gravel downhills. After a few down trees and working our way back to the trail, it turned into into a great days ride.

Steep hills, no services and a bad road make for a long day of bike riding that was not enjoyable.

Good for you ! ! ! I live in Northern Ohio, hope to do a loop around Lake Erie as well as a trip with my wife.. Taking our bikes by ferry across to Canada and explore some of Southern Ontario. The planning is almost as fun as the ride. Well, sorta .

I love the planning part. Especially living in Ohio, gives me something to do in the Winter. Best of luck. If you go through Buffalo and go across the bridge into Canada, you just get in line with the cars. There is no difference. Just be careful once you leave the gate, cars along side you go fast and merge quickly.

Thanks, I can't wait. I did want to reach out to you and see if we could jump on a call or a google meetup. I was very interested in your decision to change your route mid-ride.

That new off road section between Glenmont and Killbuck, even though it only goes half way between the two, will add significantly to the safety of the Ohio to Erie Trail. I never liked the blind corners with no shoulders (due to the guard rails being right to the edge of the pavement) on rte. 520. That improvement, which should be done by mid 2025 or earlier if the weather isn’t too bad, has been many years in the making. The Ohio Department of Transportation has the lead on the project.

Your 100% correct. I thought about this for a few days after reading your post initially. What I really don't want to lose is the views. Often a rail trail becomes a tree tunnel and you loose all the surrounding views.

Quite a day! Great job, congratulations. Did you happen to look back over your shoulder as you came up from the lower trail to Dover dam? There is a very nice, new upper trail. That’s why the lower one isn’t maintained - actually don’t think it ever really was.

I did not. Now I am going to have to dig a bit to find where that is, and how to get to it. Thank you for the info.

Under “Zoar Valley Trail” in TrailLink there is an update in the comment section for the new portion of that trail between rt.800 and rt. 416 and how to get to it. For some reason they have not officially opened this very nicely done two mile replacement of the lower trail you did. I rode the new section in mid-October and it looked completed to me but was told the contractor was waiting for supplies?! Thanks again for your video. Sorry, but had to chuckle about your raccoon episode. My biking friends also got a giggle out of it.

I have found it to be worthwhile to always hang my foodbag! Had raccoons tear through my pannier on an Ohio trip a few years back. Much better to take the time to hang it.

Wow! Quite the adventure! The hole in the Big Agnes is such a bummer. (I think I have the same tent and absolutely love it!) And soda in a bottle! lol! That’s nuts!

Rode this route many times. As of this past year, they technically do not allow camping at Bridge of Dreams. They ask that thru-bikers camp at the Danville trailhead parking area. But you made out OK, so that's cool! Very nice ride.

Good to know. Do you know if this is publicized anywhere? Sad, if that is the case. BOD is a nice spot that I have camped at 3 times now.

@OhioRailTrailRoutesRoads I spoke with the lady who is head of Knox County Parks (who oversee B.O.D.) on the phone. She said they were having too many issues with " shady" characters so no more camping. But, I'm sure if cyclists 🚴‍♂️ are already set up. no one would run them off.

@@jeffdziak6455 That is great info to know. Ill plan a little more ahead next time. BTW, no shady character at this stop but on day 2 (not yet posted), the story is a little different.
