Hi Tien, Can you model an existing steel frame that has already deflected and then attached a new structure to it in a model? For example say if i have a frame deflecting 100mm and it needs to be strengthened but we don't want to jack it up. So we install a new frame to attached to the middle of the span where it has already deflected the 100mm so it won't deflect much more? .................. i can do it using spring restraints and model each frame independently but i want to try and have it in the same model to give the best results
If you reduce your plate thickness you reduce quite a bit of your dead load. In your case by 25%, I am assuming you are wanting to add that back on.
if you reduce the bending thickness, it wouldn't affect the dead load. This is because in Space Gass a plate/shell element has 4 types of thicknesses (bending, shear, membrane, actual), the self-weight is based on the actual thickness.
Hi Tien C. Nguyen By any chance do you have any method of applying equivalent static seismic to a strucuture?
Space Gass currently release the beta version that includes the Equivalent Static Analysis for EQ analysis. That's probably what you're looking for.
FYI: The equivalent static seismic is now included in version 14.2

This video is outdated. The current version of SPACE GASS has tools to create this model within 2 minutes.
The current area load function is not powerful enough, it is difficult to amend the loading value. Hi, is there a better way to input area load? Thanks
