Water Restrictions Coming to the Desert Southwest! Plant Wisely.
Looks awesome, love misquite trees.
nice review, I planted the same tree early this year and its fruiting now , looking forward to the fruit
Put down commercial grade landscaping cloth then rocks on top.
This looks like a delicious recipe. I just bought the Cuisinart ice-21 maker and am going to try this. Love how you have your family involved in making this yummy dessert. Good job kids!!
@@jasmincha101 it was very good. Thankyou.
Will the thornless variety grow from seeds, or do they have to be grafted?
@@jessasdad if they are grown from seed then they will not be true to the mother plant so most of them will probably have thorns
Thank you for this video--it's exactly what I was looking for.
what's the maximum temperature in your area? Can they tolerate temperature of 48-49 degree celsius?
@@vimeopictures5170 we get to 120degrees Fahrenheit in Summer to 32 degrees Fahrenheit in winter. The tree does well
Nice job, I love trees.
@@df6580 Thanks, I do too
Great video beautiful yard!!
I can't wait for my mesquite tree to get to that height. My tree's only around 1.5 years old and the branches are quite low. Rabbits keep destroying the branches by eating the leaves too and it's annoying me.
I bought some Texas Honey "Thornless" Mistique Tree seeds on-line. I don't like thorns and saw these for sale after an on-line search.
@@davidg.johnson7208 That’s great let me know how they do.
Do you sell the Texas Maverick "thornless" Misquite seeds?
Interesting tree. I will see if I can grow it where I live in northwest Louisiana where we can have some long below freezing days in winter and scorching 110 F temperatures in summer. I did enjoy your video and we'll go back and watch your others. Thanks for taking the time and God bless you.
@@kimberlyjohnson5597 Thank you very much my much. Have a nice weekend.
Wholesome video
Thankyou
This might be a dumb question, but do we just edge the weeds and then add more rock? Or should we dig deeper into the ground and then add a thicker layer of rock?
You cant prevent weeds without basically sterilizing the soil and turning ur lawn into a bubble. The “weeds” in yourbyard most of the time at just pioneer plants, which are extra resilient bc they are designed to fill in empty space (bare dirt & monoculture lawn) to ensure the survival of a the landscape. They are also prepping for the next step in succession which are just bigger “weeds”. Plants are naturally SUPER resilient. And birds, along with the wind & basically any other animal that walks are constantly spreading their seeds everywhere. Spraying forever chemicals or weeding on ur hands and knees every two days is the only effective way to keep weeds down. People should just learn to live with the “weeds”. Fighting them is not worth it and also its bad for the environment (even if you aren’t spraying). They are literally just doing their job.
Yes did you answer the question are you in the desert?
We are in the desert. Arizona.
Finally at all the videos I watched yours was the best to my predicament. Tired of greets growing back I was actually thinking of putting a bunch of smaller pebbles and then big River rocks or lava stones on top of that. But you're saying basically just put 4 to 5 inches of rock no matter what to prevent weeds. Now it's June 29, 2024 and I don't know if you'll see this comment. But if you have any other suggestions I will check back to see if you commented thank you
I think your strategy could work great. The smaller rock could allow less light into the area preventing weeds better. Just don’t go too small weeds and plants have been known to grow in crushed granite.
Sweetie, the reason for the difference is the light that can penetrate in between the little rocks ! Put a thick tarp first then the rocks !
Ya, placing plastic products down leave tiny plastic particles everywhere in your soil and doesn’t allow water to work its way through the soil. Placing deeper rock in your yard is the easiest way to prevent it long term. The tarp will eventually break down and you will have to move the rock all over again to replace.
A good quality fabric that is fully covered by rocks and not exposed to the sun can last 50+ years
Good dad.
Ugh, I already have a weed barrier and the seeds are getting out of control through my rocks ☹️
what are you using as a 'weed barrier'? and are your rocks 3" to 4" deep?
Chinese elms have been experiencing some difficulties. They are not that easy to maintain longterm compared to some other trees. When they do eventually perish, they seem to go relatively quick. It is a lovely tree, though
I believe you are talking about the Russian elms. These elms do not have any issues here in AZ. One of the most bulletproof shade trees around.
@@thedolfinishangri-la2181 Not talking about Russian elms....or those types planted back east, such at those that succumbed to Dutch Elm Disease, etc. That is well known.
@@jeff6899 10-4, well I have grown up around dozens of the Chinese elms and have many around me now and I have never seen one die from a disease. They have always been bulletproof I do recommend them to everyone.Great tree, very little litter and it survives even when under watered. I’ll have to look into the new issue that you are talking about. Have a great evening.
Thanks for sharing!
You are welcome.
Nice Peach plant, I'm glad to see it, thanks for sharing.
Thank you. You are very welcome.
What city are you in
Northwest Valley, how about you? You a Knicks fan? I love the Knicks.
I'm in Phoenix az but originally from NYC and yes I'm a huge Knicks fan especially the 90's Knicks with Ewing, starks, Oakley, Mason etc. great era

Go NINERS!!
ive learned to love these trees. love the odd trunk formation on some varieties. plus great firewood.
Do you fertilize? If so how and when. Also have you considered adding some mycorrhiza for symbiosis nitrogen fixation in the roots? Thanks
Hello, I have inoculated most of my holes at planting. I am feeding with organic fertilizer pellets 3 times per year. January, May and late August.
Which do you like better, FL Prince or Earligrande?
Looks like some great peaches. I'm curious how your Mesquite tree is doing, would love to see an update on it some time
Yes, that will be my next video.
Nice video! What do you use for fertilizer? Had mine in the ground for 1 year. Fruit is awesome!
Send me some seeds please.
Cole Hauser's twin brother? I'm about to plant some Prosopis chilensis, thornless cross mesquite trees. I was able to gather some seed pods from some that the city planted as ornamentals. They are pretty much the best of all worlds, fast growing, extremely drought tolerant, hardy, strong branches, and NO Thorns! I'm sure you can find some thornless if you look around the city xeriscape.
Yes, let me know how that goes. Seeds usually do not grow true to the mother plant. Some might have thorns and some might not. I’m interested to see how that goes.
@@thedolfinishangri-la2181 You are right, I didnt think about that. I guess I'll have to sprout many and select the ones that dont have the thorns. Now that you mentioned this I think I will maybe go back and see if I can take some cuttings and try and root those instead not sure how hard that will be.
@@hippo-potamus yes, cuttings would be a much better bet. I used seeds from a thornless variety and the tree that I grew definitely has many thorns.
Bruh!!!, I feel to dumb. Every Winter and Spring I'm pulling weeds that grow in my Rocks Garden, and it's turned into a full time chore as i literally have to pull weeds every Sunday morning. And Looking outside your correct. All the Weed growth is where its only 1-2" deep in rock.
Ya, I didn’t realize that deeper rock prevented more weeds for a long time. They sell a torch at hardware stores that burns weeds really good if you decide not to put more rocks down. It connects to a big propane tank
Too expensive for a long driveway!
How cold does it get in your area? I want to get one but someone mentioned that it will dye back in the winter here in southwest texas.
Southwest where? Mesquite trees grow wild all throughout south texas from the valley to el paso to san antonio. That pretty much covers every part.
So 3 yrs ago you added extra rocks and 2 yrs ago weeds grew in? I saw your video where you added extra rock. Was it only to certain areas at the time? You laid down the irrigation first?
I added extra rock in the area in the middle of the two trees and have had a handful of weeds there in three years. The area around it gets 100s of weeds each spring and fall. It has worked so far.
@@thedolfinishangri-la2181 NO weed barrier in the less rock area?
@@markdlt2989 No, the rock was already there so I didn’t want to rake it up just to add barrier. That is a pain to get three years of no weeds. I have a friend that has deep rick like 10 inches deep and he gets almost no weeds nearly ten years in.
I saw a guy in another video use a blower to keep the rock garden clean of leaves and dirt, I’m guessing that would help to prevent weeds from germinating.
Yes because over a long period of time dirt buildup in the rocks could allow weed growth. Like ten years or more
@@thedolfinishangri-la2181 How about hosing down or power washing the rocks from time to time to drive the accumulated dirt back down giving way for weeds to germinate?
Hi....you used fertizer ???
No fertilizer. We did give it some cow manure this year for the first time
@@thedolfinishangri-la2181 I'm sorry, I don't know how to speak English...... I would like to know if you used any type of fertilizer when planting the mesquite?
@@thedolfinishangri-la2181Tank you
Good video but that tree is too close to the wall.....and the house. Too bad, nice tree.
What tree do you speak of?
Important safety tip - never leave the handle of a hot pot pointing off the stove, turn it so nobody can bump into it. Love the team effort ❤
Thank you very much
Thanks! I got it at Elgin nursery off of the 101 in the west valley.

Beautiful tree, mine is over 30 years old about 2 stories tall thornless variety, here in Vegas, almost lost it last year due to a Mesquite Borer infestation, dumped alot of systemic insecticide lost half the tree before I realized what it was.
I didn’t know a borer for Mesquite trees existed. I treat my peach and almond trees for borers maybe I’ll treat the mesquite moving forward.
@@thedolfinishangri-la2181 I did not either until I had to cut down half the tree and see all these holes ,a quick Google search and panic set in.I hope I caught it in time my late father in law planted it mid 90s loved it's so much he planted another at his house in California and let me tell ya with that Climate it is HUGE
@@Troy-McClure81 yeah, that’s one great thing about California almost every plant thrives in that environment and climate
Awesome orchard ! Have you tried growing mango trees or banana trees ? Thanks for the tour.
Thankyou, I have not because I am allergic to Mangoes and bananas use a lot of water. I would like to try bananas, one day.
Awesome mulberry trees ! Did you use any fertilizer to help it grow ? How often do you water these trees? How tall is the younger tree now ? Are you able to make an updated video on these 2 Pakistan mulberry trees ? Thank you.
The larger tree got to about 12 feet this Summer and the younger tree is about 7 feet. I feed them every four months but not heavy. I will definitely do an update video in the spring.
