Mass start craziness. I don’t think anyone was prepared for a mass category start. You never know who you are racing? Great race series every Monday night for the next 6 weeks. I’m definitely struggling with something on my chest 🤮
Zwift Racing, Can I get another podium? Great to be joined in the race by Ryan Condon

Zwift racing in the hardest stage race on Zwift. Today I realised my legs were gone, it’s been a tough 10 days. I done 8 races over the last 10 days and that’s not ideal going into one the hardest races around.

I’m told this is the hardest Zwift stage race there is! Regretting decisions now.

Watch as I turn my 8 speed turbo bike into a Zwifting machine. I will be switching it to single speed and stripping out anything not needed. Then adding Zwift hardware.
Cracking job Ray. Its really helpful watching the race unfold. Great result 👏🏼
@@iainrutherford184 thank you, glad you enjoyed it
Nicely done, fast pace especially at the start of that. Some great racing throughout. Great sprint finish. Congratulations on a great effort!
@@JDirom thanks and well done on the PRL, a little too far for me that one.
That was absolutely perfect persitioning going into that last sprint. The game loves to boost you through the pack with a big sprint. Welldone and congratulations. 🎉
@@RyanCondon cheers, I was close on that last climb to giving up, glad I didn’t now
Amazing sprint at 9.2w/kg, especially if you weren’t 100%, great pure watts as well, sure your ZRS would have moved up? The technic you basically described by hitting the climb at the front and then drifting back is called ‘sagging’ and is perfect on that climb as you can get some draft as you move back and the pack overtakes you, it’s a good approach on shortish punchy climbs where the speed remains high. Look forward to the next one, ride on!! T.J
@@AnthonyUrch-j6g thanks for the info, I’ve never heard the phase sagging. I have managed above 11wpkg when I’m feeling better. I just have to make sure I’m there at the end.
@ maybe see you in a race soon, my ZRS is 552 so I think with yours at 502 we’d be in the ‘Range 2’ races, will look out for you - My Zwift profile is T.J
@ yeah I’m upto 503 now, couple more weeks and i reckon I’ll be above 520 and then there’s no looking back.
Well done. 🎉 That looked tough!
@@mandaswin Thanks, I have a chest infection so made it harder for myself 😢
Good race, good commentary and breakdown of the race strategy so even a rookie like myself can learn 😊
@@JustBrowsing777 thank you
Fantastic effort, and what an excellent way for the Armed Forces to compete...
@@iainrutherford184 great thing about it which I forgot to mention is that it is open to Veterans aswell. Great community spirit
@RayMccaughey I struggled when I was still serving 🤣. I'm on my 4th week of FTP builder atm, after a 25yr lay-off, but I will race again. I've been totally inspired by Ryan Condon 😉
@@iainrutherford184 same as, Ryan has give me some great tips on creating videos
Great video and a fantastic result, well done Ray! 🙌
@@Noah.Henley cheers Noah
I dread to think what my wife thinks I'm watching! 😆😆 Great job!
@@DarenC 😂
🤣
Outstanding! Welldone Ray. 🙌
@@RyanCondon cheers Ryan, think this was 40 mins of a Darth Vader impression on a bike 😂
@RayMccaughey This surely must have been a FTP increase?
@ unfortunately not, my FTP is 332w.
You don't have to start sprinting as early as everyone else did, but you can't just sit at the pace you were doing. You need to ramp it up some and keep ramping it up until you can sprint on to the finish. You also might find out in race situations you can sprint longer than you think.
Thanks for the advice, if you look back at my last race I sprinted from further back and this time I wanted to try it differently, I guess you have to take it by race.
Excellent commentary! Casually soft pedalling a massive gear FTW 😆
Glad you enjoyed it!, my quads are like well oiled pistons 😂
@@RayMccaughey 😂
Great vid Ray. I’m new to Zwift this year and learnt a ton from watching. Cracking effort.
Cheers, few more videos to come over then next few weeks.
Great video Ray and a tough finish there you did well 👍 Rider highlight was launched Feb last year.
@@Noah.Henley thanks Noah, maybe I just hadn’t noticed it before
I've never actually noticed any mutual followers being highlighted. I'll look out for it in future
Impressive you can commentate while racing! Good vid and race.🎉
@@mandaswin thank you and it definitely wasn’t like that when I first started out. Some races are a lot harder to talk through.
Feels good to get in early on a channel 🙏 Best wishes 👍 I'm interested in Zwift. Can you give me some advice on getting started? Should I buy a trainer for my old road bike or get something like the Zwift Ride? Are there other bikes I should consider? It's OK if you don't have time to answer. Looking forward to future videos. Cheers.
@@aFriendlyPest Thanks for watching and the logical thing for me to say would be buy a Zwift Rode because I’m a big fan of them. But since you have an old road bike, a 2nd hand trainer and some play controllers is a cheaper option to start out. Once you’ve committed then look at a Zwift ride or something like that.
@RayMccaughey Thank you for responding 👍
Cracking job. Awesome effort and still able to commentate. I have some fond memories of cycling alongside the Army CC.
@@iainrutherford184 thank you and glad the liked the video.
Really good video... Thats by far your best one yet Ray. 🙌 Loved the commentary. Thanks for the encouragement too, it was a lot of fun to race you. I was right on your wheel until you dropped your watt bomb at 200 metres. 😅
@@RyanCondon thanks Ryan you can definitely hold you own in that bracket
@@RayMccaughey Cheers Ray. I just need to work on my mediocre sprint now. :)
@ after my placing, me too they were rockets
Great result Ray, enjoyed the video 💪
@@Noah.Henley thanks Noah
Congrats on your podium Ray. That looked brutally fast. Well played. 🙌
@@RyanCondon cheers Ryan, still a bit of work to do on the content creation.
@RayMccaughey itll come. Important you just keep uploading. I like the face camera, makes it alot more engaging. 🙌
@ cheers, I was a bit apprehensive about this.
Well done Ray a steaming win, happy birthday and hope your knee is feeling better
@@Noah.Henley thanks Noah, yeah I think it’s just a little bruised, nothing wrong with it now.
Congratulations on your win and happy belated birthday. 🎉
@@RyanCondon thank you, I was a little deflated with the size of the group
@RayMccaughey These things happen, you still put in the work. 💪
@@RyanCondon yeah it is nice when an opportunity to breakaway happens but then the hard work begins to stay away.
Great result Ray. You played that well. 👏🙌
@@RyanCondon cheers Ryan, that rocket came out of nowhere and not a chance I was catching that.
@RayMccaughey Yeah. Zwift rewards early explosive attacks from the back. Sometimes theres nothing you can do. You did really well though. 🙏🙌
Great racing and commentary Ray 🙌
@@Noah.Henley thank you 🙏
Great effort. Impressive considering your knee injury. Love the commentary Ray. 🙌🙏
Cheers Ryan. I’m definitely still hunting for that Win injury or not 💪
That was awesome to watch. A much wiser A cat zwifter once said to me that if you suddenly find the race pace conservative, it might be because you're getting better... Not the pack getting slower. Congratulations on the podium. Like the rebrand idea, top name. 💡
@@RyanCondon thanks for the support, I am starting to enjoy making videos now.
Great effort Ray. Helping your teammate was the best part... And your raw power. Welldone. 🙌
@@RyanCondon cheers, Russ would have done it for me too. Definitely resting the legs for a few days but will look to do stage 2 of Flat is fast maybe Saturday.
@RayMccaughey Sounds like a plan. 🙌
Great effort Ray. Thanks for sharing. Looked brutal.
@@RyanCondon cheers, it’s definitely a tough series. Maybe one for the future for you? 😉
Yo Adrian! I did it! 💪
@@RyanCondon 😂 thought the music was fitting
@RayMccaughey it certainly was. Great result. Fantastic sprint. 💪
what trainer do you use? your watts numbers refresh so quickly
@@smoothmusic7553 I have the zwift hub with the cog on. You know you can change the settings from 3 seconds to instant.
@@RayMccaughey i have a kickr core with cog and i have the setting on instant. My power doesnt update that quick like yours
@@smoothmusic7553 to be honest until you mentioned it I didn’t know it updates so quick. I don’t really have anything else to gauge it off.
Congrats on your podium.. Great first video. Big expectations for your next race now. Good luck on your Road to sky race. 😱
