CB Antenna ⚠️ Warning
Took some today to adjust the SWR on my Cobra 29 lx set up with an adjustable Firestick Antenna. The main reason was Antenna Warning indication on my CB every time that I made a transmission. Easy job, and had success! All that was needed was an SWR meter.

Between The Acts Little Cigars

I decided to take out of my humidor and open up, and try a piece of history. Between the Acts little cigars. Kind of cool to connect with history and think about how they were made, who made them and where this antique box of little cigars may have been? These cigars date back to the 1930’s and 1940’s. Surprisingly the cigar burned well and true, with a very subtle tasty hint of sweetness. The ...

Jeep JK Serpentine Belt Replacement and Thermostat Change Out.
Nice job showing how you adjusted the antenna with the SWRvmeter. One suggestion since you keep loosing the red cap on antenna id try a smear of silicon caulking around the top of mast before putting on cap. That should adhere the two ,waterproof it but still allow you to remove it without much trouble.
@@midnightsailor1 thank you my friend!! Great idea!👍🏻🇺🇸
Doors should be closed. You should be away from trees and buildings.
4ft to 6ft fire stick work best On Jeeps.. The shorter the anntenna will reflect off the top of the metal jeep causing high swr..Been there..
Use the cb swr
I always check SWR's on channel 20 since it's the middle of the 40 channel band and antenna should be higher above the roof.
@@johnmiller9693 off-roading too much height is problematic…. All in all worked out pretty good… we will see how she performs out on the trail soon!
@@reconjeeper0321 , oh I gotcha on the height for off road. Also when I use to run Firestiks ages ago, I found out that putting the rubber cap back on after each adjustment would throw my SWR's off for some odd reason.
You need to waterproof wrap your antenna connector.
@@ts440s new cap on its way
First thing I saw wrong is that you didn’t tighten and loosen that retaining nut in between tunes and put the cap back on each time. Having that retaining nut unscrewed for that quarter inch can really work against you. You should have gotten Channels 1 and 40 down to an SWR somewhere near 1.3-1.4 if you would have tighten that round nut each and every time. Try retuning that antenna again and you will be surprised at the results. If you still can’t get it to tune any better, then add a CB antenna spring to add about 3” in height. That antenna should be a 3/8-24. There is also a device that you can add that is suppose to allow you to fold down the antenna if you had to go into an underground parking structure but I’ve never found one to work in that manner but also works in place of the spring. It’s like adding a 3 1/3” extension between the antenna bracket and the antenna. In the end, you should get 11 meters with the tuning bolt at about half way up or down and get 10 meters most of the way down. What would really help you to tune that antenna is a Xiegu G90 QRP transceiver and work as a good short cut to your tuning of that antenna. I don’t use the 40 AM frequencies for CB on 11 meters, I only use USB and LSB only for the FreeBand like most Ham’s around the world use. Good luck with the tuning and if it doesn’t work out, try a different CB antenna like a 102” whip with a tennis ball. Those high SWR’s you’re dealing with right now could burn up your finals if you use that Cobra 29 a lot. 73’🇺🇸
Nice tune! Really makes me want to pick up a CB rig again!
What is on the top of the interior windshield?
@@libertycabbagemusic are you referring to my switch pod for elec accessories?
Just wondering also did u check it on 20 to see if it was actually lower in the center of the band. And I know their shit but what did the radio swr say I think the 29 has a built in swr meter.
@@CrCook I did not check it at 20 but was just happy I got it lower and the antenna warning went away👍🏻
next to structures messes with swr also
The body of your vehicle is adding inductance to your antenna, you would have to get the bottom of the antenna mount above the roof solve the issue. Your best swr and performance option would be a magnetic mount antenna, but that would add a lengthy antenna to your vehicle, possibly hitting drive through window roofs.
Do you need to reset the FWD setting each time you adjust the antenna?
Yes
@@jmonte5899 yes👍🏻🇺🇸
The antenna radiates from top to bottom. Beware of any metal objects around or close to the antenna. I think you are getting some reflection from where you have it mounted. Sometimes you cannot avoid that problem.....
Cb is far from obsolete. Get good coax, a good antenna, and make sure u have a good ground. If u do that, your swr should be below 1.5 and barely move the meters needle.
@@bretaschleman8289 I agree! Love CB
I prefer a good whip, like the Wilson 1000.
I have to do the same thanks for the refresh
I hooked up my 2950 a year ago, fora few months. Never heard anybody. Back to collecting dust. So depressing to see CB's become obsolete (with GMRS and cells)
@@ErrantRubicon I agree!!! Don’t give up!!! I’ve had good luck with several in our club that use CB👍🏻🇺🇸
Here in West Virginia cb is alive and well. It hasn't ever went anywhere. Guess it depends on where you live.
For out wheeling through trees on a trail. Look for an antenna spring. Your antenna will have a little more movement so the mount wont get bent or the fiberglass antenna wont break. A Wilson 1000 is a way better antenna. Do you have a CB SHOP anywhere near you? Get it tuned. New out of the box CB is never 100% in tune and modulation is always off.
Nice vids Rick! Looks like a blast.
Did anyone else see that the cam is labeled as colt cam on the end of the camshaft?

I see you have a CB on the dash very good for communication with other jeeps and trucks sometimes you need it you won’t have a phone signal 👍

@@r3d8u1111 not sure… wish you well my friend!👍🏻
Ive Done a rustic cook with a prime rib roast before. The issue is it is nearly impossible to accurately control the temp of the open fire. You will end up with a rather RARE centre (which i am happy with) and a Medium-Welldone outside. It does put a great bark on the roast. A few tips a rotating hanging method is much better then a spit (you lose a lot of juices with the spit). Constantly rotate it every 20-40 mins (depending on fire temp) and periodically bast with garlic butter throughout the cook. Good Luck.
