No, I did not break the computer. It worked as expected for about six months until there was a software upgrade for the OS then the whole thing crashed. Reformatted and started fresh and it worked fine for another few months until the next OS upgrade then the whole thing crashed. I wasn’t thrilled with the drive as it turned out to be too unreliable for a work machine so I built a Windows 10 PC.

I was waiting to receive the replacement drive before I updated this review. When I first got the drive in February 2016, it worked fine but something happened and the system started locking up. I tore it all apart and put it back together, then I re-partitioned it a couple times (once would have probably been enough, but I tend to get carried away - thus a 4TB SSD). The system worked good up until the middle of September and then the drive completely crashed. I had to send the drive back - the tech guy said they would have to "test" it before they would replace it. It took them about a week and a half to send a new drive - of course it was sent UPS ground, so I'm expecting to get it back tomorrow or Tuesday - approximately 3.5 weeks since I returned it, and about 1 month since it crashed. Customer service was completely lack luster with absolutely no sense of urgency. I just hope the replacement drive works and will place an updated comment next week. The drive is not formatted when you get it. I used a thumb drive and did a clean install when I first got the drive. Once I had the system up and running, I copied the data from the original SSD with the little drive enclosure they include with the kit.. Personally, I would not recommend this drive to anyone. I use my computer for business, so having an unreliable component in my system is unacceptable. Having tech support people who completely lack any sense of urgency and a vendor who could care less if I'm losing money because their product broke is also unacceptable so I will probably never buy anything from OWC again. I'm actually half tempted to sell the SSD on Ebay, keep using the original SSD and setting up a thunderbolt DROBO with several SSD's in a RAID setup. Even a RAID is likely more reliable than that 4TB SSD. Oh, if you do get the SSD, make sure you have several backup drives and back up every day. I'm actually running Time Machine backups throughout the day and at the end of the day I run a Super Duper smart copy backup swapping between several 5TB exterior Seagate drives. Sadly, I'd gotten lazy a few days before the crash and lost a few days of work. Hope this helps. Mark

Mark Del Hoyo Thank you for the prompt and honest response. I've not purchased a 2013 Mac Pro yet, but have been looking at options for the most amount of onboard storage. I'm hopeful that Apple releases new Mac Pros with at least 2TB of native storage. My Mac use is non-business, but I want it to last a long time, and not have a lot of drives hanging off the back. My preference is to purchase a refurbished model, but would consider a new one. I hope that OWC is able to resolve your SSD's issues and that it performs as expected. Thank you again for your providing your experience, and I think I will follow your advice for now.
