The Plant Collector

Добавлен 26 июл 2018
I love plants! I grew up planting all kinds of plants as a child so, thankfully, I have a tiny bit of knowledge of how this works.
These days are full of bad and sad news, it's nice to step out into a garden and find some peace and quiet away from all of the day's worries. I really do enjoy watching plants grow.. its literally miraculous. Its also a great distraction from the hustle and bustle of daily life. Nature is the best therapy.
I thought that I'd start up a channel documenting all of the different plants I collect as the time goes by. I hope that my 'journals' on the ups and downs of my attempts at growing these plants can serve as a 'guide' to some of you out there who are just like me. Someone who loves growing plants and watching them grow but yet, not really sure if they know what they're doing. In time, experience will give us the wisdom we need to be able to grow plants effectively... IMAGINE HOW MUCH KNOWLEDGE OF THESE PLANTS WE WILL GAIN IN THE YEARS TO COME!

Hello. I hope you find this message. I would like to know how your kukui is doing after six years. I live in Japan and bought a small kukui planted in a tiny flower pot from someone in Okinawa. It came in a small water bottle, but when I put it outside during the summer, it grew a lot and is now about 7 feet tall. I had to transplant it twice during the summer. It is in the house now because it will snow soon. I should plant it in my garden but it will die during the cold winter. Is your kukui still in a pot? How tall is it now? (I guess you are in Hawaii or somewhere tropical).
What l'm seeing on the internet is that SOURSOP is a cancer-fighting fruit. I have eaten it in Indonesia but never knew of the health benefits. I plan to buy mature plants a long with avocados and anything else worthwhile to support my health and that of my family. THANKYOU to all those who share life saving info on the social web...including guys lije Eric Berg, Sten Ekberg Alan Mandel, Alan Goldhamer etc etc GBU All

Is it still working?
@@bmaher4882 I left it in the rain and my motor got rusty....but I'm sure it would if I had kept it indoors 👍
Sup man, you ever tried taking a red lipstick palm suckling and growing from it?
@@seanschultz1553 never have! Maybe in the future 👍
You should have added the ones you planted with guavas on this video.

Where are you located? I have a few sour sop in pots in NC. Do you think they will grow in central NC?

Should you keep the container in the sun or shade when sowing the seed
@@deborah1695 partial shade 👍
Hi do you cut the top off the tree at all. Or do you just let it frow
@@tezzasmith6227 Its really up to you. In my experience, it bore fruit either way. I topped mine after a few years so that I dont have to reach too high for fruits. Its still fruiting 👍
Thank you sir, just got one today.
I rescue theses from the beaches in Costa Rica, when a storm washes them up i collect the sodden bulbs and plant them
We at Bangladesh use to call it AMRA (আমড়া), it taste like sour and sweet or both, depends on variety. We don’t eat its skin. 😊
@@naimchowdhury7913 Thank you for sharing the info 🤙
Hey bro! Was wondering if you can give me any advice on how to make it bloom. I’m going on year 3 with our kaloni kakala and it has tons of green foliage but no blooms.
@@bensonfalahola6138 gotta feed it tokoua 🤙 maybe give it some blooming fertilizer….it will only bloom if its in ideal potting mix. If its in the ground, I’d suggest just mulching it a bit with some compost and wood chips 🤙 hope this helps bro!
I have tried propagating night blooming jasmine several times with all different kinds of methods including sticking the tips in aloe vera and then in soil, covering with a bag to retain moisture, but i have never succeeded. They keep either rotting or dehydrating. The ones that i have right know are starting to drop and look floppy on the leaves but i dont want to water too much so that they dont rot again. What am i doing wrong? ):
Its also summer right now and have brought inside so that they dont dry out
@@nimi539 You can try using the same potting mix that I use. Miracle Gro….the yellow bag 🤙 sounds like your watering is pretty much on point…let me know if you run into any more problems.
@@ThePlantCollector Thanks! I’ll try that and let you know.
Can you trim these back to keep them somewhat smaller? Jw if you still have some?
@@Roxanne77777 I dont think they’ll stay small when and if you trim them back. It just depends on whether or not you plant them in suitable soil/potting mix. If the soil is poor, they may stay small. If the soil is ideal, they’ll get pretty big. Hope this helps 🤙
@ThePlantCollector yes it does, thank you 😊 🙏

what kind of potting mix should I get?
I am going to try an indoor potting soil with some osmocote fertilizer because mine are indoors.

How do you take care of this tree in summer and winter
@@nihardas-uu4pj Summer and winter here in Hawaii aren't very harsh so I really don't do anything to the plant. It does perfectly fine on its own 👍 if you have harsh summers and winters, I'd suggest placing/growjng your plant in a greenhouse.

Is it better to plant it with seeds or with branches?
Branches will yield fruit faster if airlayered...I planted from seed and it took 3yrs to fruit but the tree is perfect 🤙
Sir, I want some branches to plant in my garden
Sorry, I don't sell branches or seeds yet 🤙
