    Garage is considered a wet space. You cannot run Romex in conduit in a wet space. THHN/THNW 6g would is the correct choice. Exposed PVC conduit is subjeted to physical damage. Did you use scheudule 80 conduit and fittings?

    Also, you need to either have a lockout plate on the breaker, or add a lockout capable safety disconnect to the circuit. If you go with a NEMA 14-50 outlet, it needs to use a GFCI breaker.

    • @HomeDIYwithMartin
      @HomeDIYwithMartin 22 дня назад

      I would personally recommend hardwiring your EVSE. Most modern EVSE have built-in GFCI protection. When the unit is hardwired, there is no need for a GFCI breaker. If the unit is installed with a plug with a GFCI breaker, there can and will be faulty trips. Thanks for sharing your info and watching!

  • @benjaminchristian5410
    @benjaminchristian5410 22 дня назад

    The comments are correct regarding wire selection. NM-B 6/2 is not rated for 48A continuous or a 60A breaker. Use 6-AWG THHN, TCER 6/2, or SER 4/3 for direct wire. What’s worse is that a lot of inspectors aren’t even catching this error. Good job on torquing the screws. Always torque twice! For those that use a NEMA 14-50, make sure to use a Heavy Duty outlet. The regular duty outlets aren’t rated for the continuous current and are melting down.

    Martin, you’re a natural teacher and your attention to detail really translates well in your content! That pumice stone technique was clutch. A couple plumbing techniques for your next toilet foray. 1) you risk toilet rocking and porcelain cracking if your toilet flange is not flush with your finished floor. Many mistakenly set the flange incorrectly which leads to eventual failure. 2) though caulking the toilet looks nice if ever a leak develops under the toilet you’ve now prevented the water pooling being an indicator something is wrong. You should check out Steven Lavinmore’s channel (he’s a very thoughtful plumber that’s been making RUclips content for over 10 years!) 3) another high point of failure for toilets is the water line, since your already have it disconnected not a bad idea to replace the shutoff with a brass quarter turn and replace the water line hose. (Write the date of replacement on the label, so you have reference for the next guy). Enjoying your DIY content!

      Thank you for your comment and advice! Mom wanted the caulking so kitty litter doesn’t get wedged between toilet and floor. She keeps it in that bathroom but I did leave the back not caulked to let water out. At work in a commercial setting I never caulk. I do subscribe to steven lavimoniere channel, I love the conversations between him and the customers 🤭. He makes me crack up! And of course his Next Level plumbing and HVAC skills. THANKS AGAIN FOR YOUR COMMENT AND ADVICE!!

    Thanks for the super detailed video. I was wondering why running in the wires in the attic vs in another PVC pipe along the ceiling.

    • @HomeDIYwithMartin
      @HomeDIYwithMartin Месяц назад

      Thank you for watching and commenting! If I had no attic access, I would have just ran the conduit through the garage. But it was a lot easier for me, saved me steps, just to go straight up and use the attic since I used romex wire, and it was a pretty far run going all the way across the garage. Romex doesn’t need conduit in the attic. If I used individual THHN wire, it would have needed to be in conduit for the entire run, so I probably would have ran the conduit in the garage along the ceiling. Easier to work in garage vs hot attic. At some point, I’ll have a EV parked on the other side of garage, and when I install a second EVSE, I’ll do that for that side of my garage that has the load center because it’s a shorter run, so it will be easy to just use conduit the whole way. I hope this info helped!

      That makes sense. If you don't mind me asking, what is the gun holder (that piece for the gun to rest off) made of? It looks so brittle. I hope it is metal and not plastic. I really like the idea of the box to contain the cord. I will install mine on a wall next to my bikes and it will make such a box to keep the cord within its allocated space.

    Individual stranded THHN 6 awg wires might have been better than the 6-2 NM (Romex) cable you used. Probably less expensive. It has a higher temperature rating (90 C) and thus a higher current rating (recall 55 A in conduit, for 2 cond max). Much easier to pull thru conduit. I bought it by the foot recently at Lowes for another project (now planning for an EV charger). They had red, blk, wht, and grn stranded. Home Depot had only 2 colors by the foot in 6 awg, at higher price.

    You shouldn't use the 48 amp setting. You've got Romex wire, you have to use the 60c rating, so that's 55 amps. Max continuous would be 44 amps. You should have finished the attic run and used THHN wire, then you could have used the 75c rating of 65amps. You would have been able to charge at 48 amps then.

    But because the door is not fully closed, don't you wind up with a gap on your top door panel where the panel tilts in slightly?

    • @HomeDIYwithMartin
      @HomeDIYwithMartin 4 месяца назад

      The door can sit off the ground slightly without that happening luckily. Normally, the bottom weather seal is much thicker, and over time it gets crushed down. Don’t get a new bottom weather seal that has an O ring inside of it. You want one shaped like a U that crushes down on the Undor cable protector and whatever you choose to put on the other side. Either the other Undor that comes in the box, or as you saw I used a piece of pvc board. That keeps the weather seal well padded and not crushed down in the middle. Now by chance that doesn’t work, check out your garage doors top wheel bracket. It should have an oval channel that you can loosen the screw and adjust the tilt on top door panel if needed. But in most cases you shouldn’t have to do that because of what I explained about how the seal is now crushed down and that’s where you gain the rise in the door. Hope that info helps, Thanks for watching!

  • @fromroots

    Thanks for sharing. Does this/ will Undoor work with automated garage doors that are not pulled down manually as we see here in the video?

    • @HomeDIYwithMartin
      @HomeDIYwithMartin 4 месяца назад

      It will work, you just need to adjust the down Travel Limit on your garage door opener. If you still have your paperwork it will explain how in there. Or just do a search on RUclips for your brand of garage door opener on RUclips, and you probably can find a video on how to do it. Usually, it’s just a screw/knob on the side that you adjust so that the garage door doesn’t shut all the way down to the floor anymore, and stops when it hits the Undor cable protector. Hope that info helps, thanks for watching!

    Nice install. I just installed the same dishwasher today at a rental property. The only thing different on mine is that mine has a door handlebar. other than that, same control panel and everything. I also liked the fact that you can see and push the buttons even with the door closed. It is a quite dishwasher.

    As previously mentioned, this will not pass inspection. First, you should always get a permit and inspection. Our utility offers installation cost rebate and requires a passed inspection (aside from just keeping people safe.) It is not just setting the charger to a max of 50 amps output but the 60amp breaker is too big for the wire type and needs to drop to 50. If I install an EVSE with a 60amp breaker to achieve 48 amps on the charger, I need to use either #4 romex or #6 thhn in conduit.

    You're welcome to take whatever level of risk you're comfortable with, but I would not be strapping a tank of potassium hydroxide on my back under any circumstances. Also, it's very expensive for what it is. You're paying for 1%-5% of potassium hydroxide. The manufacturer will not disclose the exact percentage as they claim it is a trade secret.

      Works great for me, lasts 2yrs. Just sharing what I do, but you can use a pressure washer if that’s what you like to do. Thanks for watching.

      “To each their own” use what works best for you. Spray & Forget lasts for years. Chlorine just cleans it. Thanks for watching!
