White Caps on the Bird Bath
A lot of movement in the water this morning from the wind but it looks like we’re in store for a sunny day.

Grackles and Cowbirds
Просмотров 5212 часов назад
It’s Jan 3rd and the grackles are still here in Richmond, MI. Our fall weather was on the warm side so I think this flock migrated down to our backyard and decided to stay. They may regret that decision as our coldest month has arrived. Maybe they will move on as the weather gets colder? Can you find the male and female brown-headed cowbirds? Smaller and stockier than grackles, the females are ...
Christmas Eve Feast Part 2
Просмотров 6914 дней назад
We decided to add some walnuts, pecans, almonds, chestnuts and hazelnuts to the usual peanuts and sunflower as a Christmas treat. Interestingly, the blue jays got the majority of peanuts, not the squirrels. It took the squirrels a while to take the tree nuts. They seemed to prefer the usual seeds and peanuts. This is mid afternoon to early evening.

Brown-headed Cowbirds
Просмотров 8314 дней назад
We throw millet on the ground for juncos and doves but sometimes you may get an unexpected flock of cowbirds as we did today. Brown-headed cowbirds are native to North America but many people don’t like them because they are a brood parasite; the female lays her eggs in a smaller bird’s nest. Most birds don’t recognize the difference in the eggs and end up raising the cowbird chick as their own...
A Day at the Bath
Просмотров 9821 день назад
A heated bird bath really attracts birds to your backyard. Here’s a day recently in our yard. Just about every species of birds we have visited the bath! 🙂
Bath Placement
Просмотров 8521 день назад
It was a little warmer the past few days so we were able to catch a few baths. Notice how the birds wait their turn in the shrubs but the area is open enough so the birds can ensure there are no predators hiding.
Heated Bath at Ground Level

Clean water available at ground level will help birds and mammals stay hydrated during the winter when most other water sources are frozen.
Cardinal Confetti Cylinder

A few more birds enjoying our new Cardinal Confetti cylinder. Listen to the red-bellied when she finally gets a peanut free and drops it. She gives a little squawk. 🤭
Grackles in December

A flock of common grackles stopped by this afternoon. This is the latest I’ve ever seen them in our area.
Good Evening Feeder

Our latest addition to our WBU line is the Good Evening feeder. Filled with our new Cardinal Confetti blend, it was sure to attract cardinals but who else did it attract? A variety of birds! 😃
Juncos, Doves and a Rabbit
Просмотров 3721 день назад
It was very cold and windy this morning so I threw out some extra millet for the juncos. I love hearing juncos so I hope I cut out enough of the wind noise so you can hear them. The rabbit was an unexpected visitor and he stayed for quite a while eating millet. Listen for the soft cooing of doves in the last minute.
Mourning dove and blue jay

It is great to see Blue Jays in the wintertime. Having Cardinals and Blue Jays provides beautiful colors against the snow. Love it.
Beautiful video as always. Every yard needs a bird bath.
Thank you. Do you use a bath warmer at all? I’m in Monroe county, MI, so our weather is similar. Love watching the birds.
It is a blessing to see these beautiful creatures up close 🥹
I liked that lip/beak smack at the end.
When you provide water for your backyard wildlife animals, especially when placed at ground level, make sure the edges are wide enough to land and grasp, also provide a way out so the smallest animals, insects even flying ones, have the possibility to make there way out to dry land, its sad to see the drown worms, bees, wasps and others when you refill in the morning, a stick stone or shallow end is better than having a deeper rather than shallower container (note that the simple leaf shown could provide that way out). Also consider placements so that during a hot summer day some water sources are always shaded and that some are less observable by overhead predators and some are away from bushy edges where ground based predators may prefer to lurk.
WOODPECKERS HAVE THE TALENT TO MASTER JUST ABOUT ANY BIRD FEEDER ??
@@josephgarrison7424 yes they’re able to cling to vertical surfaces as well as horizontal so they can feed from just about any feeder.
Great bird species. Wrong coloured feeder. ❤
Nice video ! TY for posting it.
It is almost a death sentence if they get wet in this season.
@@Astor-_- no it’s not a death sentence and many birds bathe in the winter to keep their feathers clean. They have an oil gland at the base of their tail and when they preen, they spread the oil over feathers to make them waterproof. 🙂
@wildbirdsunlimitedmacomb6573 Good to know this. Because whenever i bath my bird it shivers like crazy i have to put him in sunlight instantly.
@ I’m only referring to wild birds. Any advice for caged birds would be best from a vet.
The Jays are like you stupid Red Bellied Woodpecker. You don't peck them out you PICK them out...LOL I've been in the avian field now for nearly 35yrs having hands on experience with everything from Warblers to Birds of Prey. And it never ceases to amaze me how afraid Blue Jays are of Red Bellied Woodpeckers. Considering the Jay's are bullies in their own right. It's gotta be that formidable beak they have. I saw a video here on RUclips of a Red Bellied actually getting into it with a Blue Jay. And they were both on the ground. And it was amazing how the woodpecker was able to grab the jay by the wing. And give it what for. You don't see many songbirds bullying Jays. Although my Common Grackles in the summer seem to win out most of the time. But they are also slighter bigger and stronger.
Strange. The cardinals in my yard have never eaten the meal worms I put out. Two other kinds of birds do though
@@carlismycat do you put out live mealworms or dried? These are live.
Interesting birdseed cylinder. Price ?
@@vgorski7545 hello, the Cardinal Confetti cylinder is 13.99
Beautiful male Cardinal who stretched out tall and stopped moving~~ on alert. Very nice video !
I just ordered one of these....my Scrub Jays will love it but worried about crows taking it over
@@JohnDoe-xu2vx crows are too big to land on it. They might wait below for some peanuts to fall.
@@wildbirdsunlimitedmacomb6573 Thanks
I bought one of these for the squirrels to feed on opposite side of the house from where I feed the birds. It has helped save on bird feed HOWEVER now the Jays have taken over and can empty a half full feeder in 20 minutes. Can't afford to feed them
Beautiful Cardinal couple. Can watch them for hours. Nice vid.
Ooh I love this!
Mrs Cardinal loves them 🪱❤
Can I buy mealworms in the winter?
@@sherireuther3047 yes!
Watching this video makes me wish I was a bird so I could join the bathing party 🐦🐦🐦
Adorable.🐦
Love juncos! Guess they have started coming down for the winter then. My neighbour cannot remember the name, so she calls them Jujubes! Just as cute that way too. 🇨🇦❤️💕
Enthusiastic feeding on your suet mix by that Downey woodpecker! Like your placement with that good thicket of trees and shrubs behind the feeder.
Cute bird Oneof this visit to use today
Good to know, I have a flock that just showed up a couple of weeks ago and I've given them a seed mixture on the ground in one area of my yard by the trees and shrubs, I'll add some millet to the mix. Glad to see them. Thanks for the tip. 👌
they're gorgeous! love the squirrels & blue jays in the background. 😻😻😻😻😻 5/5
I love it
Uih owl 😊
Oh my goodness!!! I have never seen that many grackles at bird feeders before.
Uih 😃 many birds
😂 she look to the best nuts😅 cute birds😊
Bird baths should be mandatory in every yard in America.🐦
My cat will love this vid!
Nice feeder. I just bought a tube feeder but it looks like its for the smaller birds. It has a tray at the bottom to catch seed and that's where the birds seem to go first.
😅birds hungry 😋
Is that feed sunflower seeds? Great images
@@elizabeth3405 yes it’s sunflower seeds without the shell
Breathtakingly beautiful ❤
Buena toma
Beautiful footage 💕
