My first car was a 99 5 speed S70! Funny enough also picked it up for $1200 with 170k miles. Super blessed to have owned it, especially with it being so rare to find a manual volvo in the states. I beat the crap out of that car and it just kept going and going. So many dumb highschool clutch dumps to get the wheels spinning. Only problem I had was I would top off the coolant every month and in the end the exhaust rusted off and would've cost more than it was worth. But man, do I miss that tank of a vehicle!

nice volvo i fond me a 1997 850 t5 turbo for $2000 only 110.000 miles on it but it need work to be done i invested $ 1600 in parts plus labor but is Wort it. The car is almoust imaculate in and out now it is super FAST !! It was repared at san diego VOLVO by an experience tecnition now it is wort $ 9000 in this condition good luck on you volvo dont.give up its. VOLVO FOR LIFE .

You're driving it in Normal mode, even though you slapped the shifter into Sport. The tell is that the middle display is blue, not red. Engine Sport mode is on the center console in front of the shifter. Drive it in Sport mode and be even more impressed.

Theres a lot of people making over 500 safely on a stock 5.0 block. Pm performance made over 500 to the wheels and drag raced his almost weekly and never had a issue. Alot is in the the tune and balance. That being said, i dont ever expect to make over 450whp with mine

I LOVE Volvos. I've got 2 S60s, 2003 base 2.4 with over 346,000 miles and a 2006 2.5T AWD with over 178,000 miles. Original everything other than normal wear items. Engines are solid and the trannys shift when they are supposed to. Original CATs and NEVER needed the AC to be recharged. I got the 2003 brand new and got the 2006 used a while ago. I got the 2006 just-in-case the 2003 'decides' it's had enough. The engines are easy to work on; I've changed timing belts, it was a little tight but doable. Motor mounts are a challenge but also doable. If and when the PCV system goes- THAT will be a nightmare. I don't know WHAT the Volvo engineers were thinking when they put the PCV system under the intake manifold but I'll jump off that bridge when I get to it. I use the 2003 as my daily but take the 2006 out in snow because of the AWD. Looking for a 1998 S70 or an 850. Anyway- GREAT cars and NEVER unexpected repairs. I DID have a wiper motor go on the 2003 and the instrument cluster went @120K - (factory defect) - cost me $300 for the instrument cluster to get 'refreshed' but fine ever since. Good luck everybody- drive safe.

That exhaust over the valve cover is wild but I know on that side you've a big steering box to contend with. Creative choice. I'm not mad at all with the fender exit. I like that it isn't a polished rig. It stands on its own. Besides, parts for old Mercs are spendy IF you can find them.
