Very nice work sir

Interesting. Very nice work sir.
Thank you kindl
I don't know anything about the kind of VFD you've got there, but I hope this video shows up for somebody who does!

Dear John, nice job! How is the leadscrew attached/inserted in the tailstock? I assume you made sure that the morse taper in the tailstock won't be damaged.
hi, i have 2 ml7 headstocks. one of them have soft spindle. i did bore the spindle through to 19mm. i take the quil off from the tailstock and i made a quil of 1" dia. and boed to 3/4" where i can insert the bar and use like a support during the cutting process. i insert the bar in the spindle and i start cutting from one end of the 3/4" bar as you can see in one of the vids. after i get the right depth then i slide the threaded part further in the spindle, then the critical part is to adjust the cutting tool with the thread dial and the groove created along the part of the thread created. naturally at very low speed and no cutting. when i am satisfied my new cut will be a continuation to the thread created . then i run a scratch test on the part which need to be cut with a support of a small rotating centre on the tailstock side after i put back the original quil in the tailstock casting. i hope that will help. i may be will make more and i may demostrate the operation above. but the vid will be in chunks as i do not have an editing software.
Don't know if spraying your belts with grease is a good idea.
i do understand and i know really since the mid seventies the relationship between pullies and belts. in this case i wanted to protect the metal parts from rust and i never used this machine ever nor i will use. thank you for the observation.
for phil turner, contact me / text on 07402114118 to join the group. on whattsup, and i ll see what i can do about the lathe
is this a super 7 with power cross
no, if you have a power feed cross slide you can use bearings a bit larger in size. which can be bought from a friend of mine. we both fitted these bearings on our machines which have power cross feeds. thank you for asking.
Keep em coming, and a messy shed is a shed worked in.
cheers mate thank you
Just a tip for you. I have the S7B. Lovely machine, watch some of my video's of the many mods i have done. But the tip is, if you are going to use your phone to do the video's with Turn it horozontal so the vids will show full screen. Good luck to you. Regards. Steve.
thank you Steve, i do not have a camera nor video editing software hence raw vid. i have a myford super 7 b with second generation gear box and power feed cross slide which i never used with many new parts. i have a super 7 with mk1 gear box , this my main working lathe ,i look after it all the time and in extremly good condition. i have super 7 which i did show in my recent vid but never used since i bought it may be 6 or 7 years ago and now want to change the bed. i have a ML7 with long bed and i love it. which i use to make lead screws . i bored the spindle to be able to get 3/4" bar through. with 2 head stocks mk1 and mk2 as well as i have a spare head stock for it. unfurtunately i can not get a lead screw for it hence i joind 2 super 7 lead screws togethr and it works fine. i have a Maximat EMCO V10 which i use but converted it for direct drive on the spindle. all my lathes a part from the one i am building now are 3 phase motors and inverters. recently i decided to start selling my lathes and my tools ,i had enough although i love spending time in the shed making and modifying things. if you need help or tools let me know i might have it. cheers
hi again Steve, funny enough i am regular watcher of your channel mate. thanks

Any of it left?
That was very informative thanks. I may have a few questions for you in the future about dividing heads. Wishing you well with your health.
My S7 got about 0.56inch thickness at this area. Got changed during the years?
hi, correct me if i am wrong. do you mean backlash at the feed screw? i do not think that is possible, most likely is the feed screw nut under the end plate is not adjusted properly. regards
No I mean thicker leadscrew and also thicker thread and collar
@@philippjung1004 yes auto feed cross slide have larger feed screw. these bearings will not fit. but i think the bearings will fit the top slide. thank you
Thank you for taking the time to upload John. I hope your health improves.
thank you Gavin for your kind words. if you need help please ask. my videos are raw not edited. and filming holding the phone in one hand and doing things with other .it is difficult but this is what i have and what i can do at the moment.
@@johnsmith-wl8dp you do a fantastic job! If I need any advice I'll ask. Look after yourself. Gavin.
Could you plrase outline what would fit a ML7 ...? Asl cost for mail to Australia ...
what are you after? which part? postage will be very high. but worth it as you may know some parts are not made any more and the prices are really rocketing sky high every day. and you know there is a lot of demand. then buy yesterday rather than today.there are many parts and attachments are compatible between Super 7 and ML7 ie can be used on both. tell me what are you after and i ll see how i can help. email me on saifsma@hotmail.com . or search on whatsap for (babylon lion) and text. thank you
Hi John i tried texting this number but im not sure if you got the text. Is the dividing head still available and are you willing to ship outside the UK at my expense of course. Regards Evo
hello, item still available, i can not text out side uk. yes i have no problem sending parts any where. you can get in contact on WhatsApp. search (Babylon lion). and provide your address to see how much postal cost ( i am not sure postage might be high) since the item is heavy. and discuss item cost. thank you
Thank you very much Fantastic explain

I know the post is 2 ears old but I need the bearings if you still do them if not do you have part numbers
hello and thank you. yes i have bearings. contact me on email, and i ll try to solve your problem. saifsma@hotmail.com .
hi, if you want one of these handles please message me and ask for price.these are made on Myford S7 for S7 and ML7 ML10
HI John did jou get to put on the dividing head from a book, please can jou give me the titel
no book. i have 2 myford dividing heads. this clip just to show that you can make an arbour inserted on one end in the spindle and the other end inside the dividing head. with some extra fittings and screws and use to divide on the head stock. this gadget can be made easily from scrap metal in your shed. it cost around £145 if you buy from Myford. it did cost me around a fiver plus machining time . for the last 3 months i did not make or designed any parts for my lathes since i am not feeling well. if you want to make one i can send you some sketches and dimensions when i go home to london in a couple of weeks hopefully .i am receiving medical treatment in Plymouth at the moment. hope every thing goes well. drop me an email on saifsma@hotmail.com and let me know. thank you
@@johnsmith-wl8dp Thanks John for the answer j am not zo good with the internet can jou put the skettches over here maybe more poeple can juse them. sorry for my terreble english
painfull
Those are really nice lathes. Even for smaller models they are built very professionally. Are you running an extra spindle to take advantage of the indexing? What’s your purpose?
hi Glenn, indeed, nice but high in maintenance since they are old but still functioning for small jobs. sorry about the raw clip i do not have a camera and i had to use my phone. my attempt here to show indexing can be done with myford dividing head linked to the back of a myford S7 spindle with a split arbour inside the spindle and a MT2 taper inside the dviding head spindle a tool which is easily made on the lathe. other reason this tool is in my view very expensive if bought from myford. it did cost around a tenner in material and machine running time is a learning curve as i am a hobbyist. dividing on the spindle help in cutting operation steps and time.
difficult to use phone in one hand and working with the other.
the purpose to be able to divide using the dividing head and the lathe head stock.thank you.
yes, but myford spindles are different in bore size at the back. around 16mm in size. what is called small bore.
hi is this the std myford bore
yes about 16 mm. the problem with Myford spindle each one is different . i have 5 all different in size at the back.
thanks john
try these bearings for myford S7 and ml7, some of them may fit ml10 but i dont have ml10 therefore i can not be sure. there are differences in size of bearings Super 7 / Ml7. but same idea. if you use molyslip or oil you still have some problems with out the bearings. try the bearings and money back guarantee if not happy with the service, communication, dispatch time and the bearings.. what you going to lose? when bearings fitted properly and slide grub screws adjusted nicely you feel the ball handle glide and smooth turning of feed screw and responsive move on the part of the cross slide. these bearings can be fitted on the top slide as well which will yield same results.
hello David , thank you if you go to ebay and search for item no. 283281556732 , you will see the 2 sets of bearings listed. if you want one set then go to items sold by the seller and you will find the item for 1 set.
Hi, just bought a super 7 mine needs doing ,where do i get the two sets of bearings from and size.
Hi David, see my comment. item no. 283281556732 on ebay. thank you
DAVID CROWCROFT Did you manage to get the two sets? I have both if you need them.
That is clever, and my S7 needs it. Well done.
available on ebay
@@johnsmith-wl8dp Yup! Found it, and ordered straight away, Some molyslip grease will do wonders, too. Despite meticulous tuning, the backlash still drives me witless, so I can't wait.
