Hey Lucas! Thank you for sharing this with us. Do you have Instagram? I’m an independent artist and would love to connect with you to discuss music production.
👏👏👏
thank you!
Love watching. Your process Lucas great tune
thanks stevie, appreciate you!
Nice first steps!
thank you :)
I appreciate you sharing your process with such an intention here. I’ve never been a super political person, but Trump‘s big inauguration fiasco has really been a wake up call for me. I also feel compelled to say something direct about what’s going on in America, but I’m literally writing lyrics for the last song I’ve been working on for a new album. Why do I always feel like my current music project is not quite current enough to reflect what I’m thinking about?
thank you! haha I feel like you just described the dilemma of every songwriter - the ideas come much more quickly than we can put them out into the world. But honestly, that's ok! Songs can be little time capsules, reflecting who you were, or what the world around you was like at a certain moment. And sometimes the most magical thing happens where something that you wrote ages ago takes on a whole new meaning as you/the world changes. Those are the most exciting songs for me.
Hmm..you know I love your music. You mentioned you only learned about some of the stuff you talked about - well you didn’t get very specific, Cobalt red cameo is a good one though, I recommend the JRE episode with the author - recently so I‘ll try to be less upfront as I‘d usually be. But man, I don’t know what kind of rabbit holes you went down on but it‘d be sad to lose another brilliant musician to the leftist democrat cult. Got enough of those in the A-list tier with Taylor Swift etc. Trump was the positive vote. Literally 99% of what‘s bad on this planet the elite politics class that‘s trying to „save you from the oh so bad billionaires“ is responsible for. Please, if I can recommend you one book to read it‘d be Principles of Economics by Safedean Ammous. I can send you a free ebook or audio book if you want. You think you‘ve learned some of what’s going on in the world? Wait till you learn what fiat money does to our society, how it stifled innovation and keeps the poorest poor. Marc Andreesen on JRE is another fantastic listen if you just need outlined why Trump was the positive vote in a no nonsense manner. Let me know if you want the book. Have a good one. Great tune. P.S. calling people you disagree with billionaire bootlickers is rather contradictory given that you seem to imply rational discourse is preferable.
Awesome song, have you released it on Spotify?
Great info Lucas. Where do you get a sync license for a cover song I want to use on RUclips? Or is it even worth it?
Excellent work! Thank you for this
It always baffles me why people think they can cover something they don’t own or didn’t create and then stamp their feet like a child when the creator objects, of course the original owner can say no, it doesn’t make them a tyrant by any stretch of the imagination, try writing your own songs 🤦♀️🤷♀️
Actually the main takeaway from this video is that they CAN do that (everywhere except for RUclips). The right to cover a song is included in a compulsory license, meaning a copyright holder CAN'T stop people from covering their songs. So American copyright law disagrees with this take lol. What makes someone a tyrant is issuing copyright strikes on small RUclips channels instead of just monetizing the video themselves. They're actively choosing to cause trouble for someone showing appreciation for their song instead of earning revenue from that video. In my eyes that makes you a despicable and tyrannical person.
@ the main takeaway from this video is you have a typical entitled American entitled attitude towards something you don’t own and didn’t create but feel the need the whine about it when an adult tells you you can’t use something that doesn’t belong to you without permission 😬 If they monetise their own song then RUclips will strike you out even quicker. Meanwhile speaking from experience as a previous A&R for a British owned label, if we objected of a cover our legal would only have to email a no and that cover would get pulled within days from anywhere including RUclips. Your ignorance and stupidity has been noted thank you for clarifying yourself impeccably, enjoy your little channel and consider yourself excused and your opinion corrected. No means no everywhere in life you will do well to remember that…
That's a great song if I've ever heard one. The artist has a wonderful switch to Falsetto. Always impressive hearing that. And I just love how you can add real strings, so cool :D
@@ThomasPenninger Thank you, and yes agreed, Jonny’s got some seriously impressive vocal control (not to mention songwriting chops)
“Boomer crap” lol great video, sir!
On my separate music channel, I uploaded like five songs and one day, all acoustic covers in my own style. Within 24 hours, I had a copyright claim on four out of five of them. The only one that didn’t copyright claimed was a song by yes. I don’t know how all this works, and I can tell that RUclips did not promote my videos at all, they still only have like four or five views apiece. Except for the one that did not get copyright claimed. Overall, I’m glad that it’s not as scary as it used to be, the worst thing it appears that will happen is that you just won’t get promoted or if you do, get a lot of views then you have to share money with the original owner.
Calling older forms of music media "boomer crap" makes you sound less informed and perpepetuates the divide between generations. Don't let stuff like that get in the way of an otherwise very informative and helpful video.
ok boomer (sorry I had to. I don't mean any of it lol, I just say dumb stuff sometimes to make sure I don't take myself too seriously!)
What if i want to sing a cover song in another language?
So why does DistroKid charge you for a licence for a cover ? Ok watched the whole video, it’s because other legal jurisdictions require a licence
The effort oh my god, that was amazing!!!
Its good
That 9th chord on jigsaw section reminds me more of the john mayer - no such thing lol
drop the song now!
Can i Change the Tempo and Genre of a Song ? I have Cover vocals from a Pop Song and have made an uptempo version is this ok?
yeah absolutely! that should fall under the "necessary changes to fit the new genre" umbrella
I Love Radiohead but if anything from your lifetime is your favorite album, you need some deeper musical education
This is a wild take. I'm one music degree in and have yet to find anything that speaks to me on the same level. How does the year something was made have anything to do with it being great?
Great video! Thanks for explaining your techniques! I'm definitely going to try layering my vocals!
amazing, glad to hear it, thanks for watching!
Thanks for going through your mixing process though! Really helps out!
glad to hear, thanks for watching!
❤😂😂😂🎉🎉😢😢
Dear Lucas, I don't know if you'll read this, but here goes anyway. I rarely ever comment in general but I've been following your content for a while. I've learnt quite a lot of things from your content, thank you for that. I started playing your EP "This Place". I'm halfway through and I'm so in awe of the production, songwriting that I can't wait to comment this until the end haha, what a beautiful body of art! If it isn't a lot to ask, I would love it if you can make a video running thorough the making of this EP and the challenges you faced while producing such beauty. Please consider the idea and thank you very much again for sharing such wonderful art with the world. Best to you! ❤️
thank you so much, this is so kind and I appreciate it a ton :) As much as I'm proud of that EP I don't think I'll be doing any deep-dives into the production process, I didn't really take any footage of it and it was all done quite a while ago (before I started making youtube videos properly). If you look on my instagram though there are a few videos from around that time breaking things down on b-side and kensington mainly. I also have an old youtube video breaking down Echoes! All that being said, I am working on a new EP that I'm releasing this year so I'll be making some content around that!
hello! do you mind me asking what daw this is?
Fl studio
Please don't apologize for the music theory. Sophisticated music like Radiohead doesn't just happen. They know what they are doing, and we need to know also. Knowledge is a good thing. The more the better.
Very much agreed! There's a weird trend though in the modern music world of people rejecting theory which is why I approach it cautiously. Imo there certainly is a time and a place to turn off the analytical part of your brain and let the music carry you (kind of what theory haters advocate for), but I think being able to look back and analyze/understand what you did in that flow state is super important too!
How many of these are just junky AI?
@@slcism when I made this video, almost none. Now practically every one lol. Honestly might not be worth it anymore at all
Can you do a Mitski video next? Big fan
thank you! Love Mitski, next few are planned out already but that style is definitely on my radar for this year!
Wished I watched this video before starting some campaigns... Total waste of my money. 😒
yeahhh it's an odd site...and it's been years since I posted this video, from what I've heard it's taken a turn for the worse with the accessibility of AI nowadays. I'd avoid at this point most likely.
New Sub👊🏾 thank you 🙏🏽 this explains alot I’m trying to drop My Funny Valentine for Valentine Day in 2025
thank you, glad to hear!
I always wondered how alternative indie can be made. But now i learned Thank you ❤
Glad I could help, thanks for watching!
@ would like to see Novo amor tutorial
@@Chinarkashmirmusic you're in luck! working on an S. Carey/Novo Amor style one right now!
@ That is a great news. When are you dropping it?
I’m not 100% sure, I’m producing a song for a client in the video so it depends when he wants to release the song
Thank you for this! I'm not a music creator, but I wanted to know if someone could hum or sing a song casually in videos without making trouble for themselves. Your video gives me a little understanding.
thanks! It's a very confusing world haha, but you should be good especially if it's a short segment!
Videotape or dayli battles please LUcas ! 🙏🏻
ouu great songs! Always meant to do a Videotape cover I might do that at some point for sure
That rots!
Ur super talented!! Sounds amazing
thank you!
believe it or not i was JUST about to record a kind of indie piano ballad........so this tool appears , and it's what i needed
haha amazing timing, super glad to hear that!
@@lucasfourniermusic it's been syncronicity
It's crazy that you only have 4k! I wish I found this vid sooner
ah thanks so much, I really appreciate it :)
This is great, it's hard to find production tutorials where the final product is actually good but yours is beautiful!
that means a ton, thanks so much for watching!
Let me ask you something homie.. if I use the instrumental of an artist and write unique lyrics to it, similar to weird Al, and I get a copyright ID claim, could I get demonetized? I don't know... I got demonetized for something lol and RUclips doesn't tell you what you did but you can reapply in 90 days..
yeah that sounds like the exact kind of thing that could get you demonetized, haha - writing new lyrics to an existing instrumental is a derivative work under copyright law so would require a sync license to monetize on youtube
Очень красиво!
I actually like that your vocal chains are simple. A lot of people I see put like 10+ different plugins and I was thinking there’s no way this is necessary haha
there's a time and a place for it, but generally people tend to over-complicate for sure haha
Thank you for this video man! This is so awesome!!!
you're very welcome, thanks for watching!
This is absolute gold.
thanks so much!!
Sounds more like a Puma Blue song but I'll take that
idk Puma Blue, sounds like I need to check them out! Thanks for watching :)
What if I record to the original song's beat with different lyrics? Is that a cover? And can I post it to RUclips???
nope, and probably not! that would be a derivative work that you'd need a sync license for if you wanted to monetize
Do you have any vocal presets for sale?
no I don't unfortunately, not a huge fan of one-size-fits-all presets tbh
Unburdened by what has been!
This is more about sound design techniques, rather than realism.
uhh...yeah, it's about sound design that helps create realism, that's kind of the point haha
