Yeh, there are a lot of ways to slice it. We're pretty spoiled with our drivetrain options now. SRAM AXS makes it pretty simple and now that Shimano GRX 12sp is using the wide range mtb cassettes, that makes for another good option. Fun stuff. Let us know if you have any questions you think we can help with or if you'd like to see us do any other specific projects. We're always playing musical parts on our demo bikes to try different stuff out and hope to find the time to put more of it up on RUclips in the future.

@@maklinbikes Ace. I'm in Hong Kong, where most people are running straight drivetrains and brake. But, I enjoy mixing-and-matching to maximise my options. For example, while everyone I know is buying Chinese carbon wheels, I'm looking at building a light, moderately aero gravel wheelset, maybe using alloy rims like the DT Swiss 511 (24mm inner, 32mm height) on 350 or 240 hubs. If you have any ideas, I'd love the insight and guidance. And, if/when I get into trouble, I'll definitely ask for help! Live long and keep pedalling 🖖

I like the DT hubs. Easy to service and easy to find bearings for them when/if needed. I've ridden wheels at some time or another with all of there hub options. 180s thru 370s. Currently have some 350s on my mtb. We've built some wheels using HED's Belgium rim as well. I like the HED Emporia GA Pro wheels as my do everything gravel wheel. I have some Stan's boost hubs that have damaged rims on them, that we thought about lacing up with some Belgum rims for the drop bar RKT.

@@maklinbikes All things considered (quality/reliability/serviceability/availability) I think I'll go with DT Swiss -- probably their 240 straight pull hubs. Rims will depend on what I can find in Hong Kong. Cheers!

I think some of that got sorted out late in the season and I suspect will go into next season better off. I also believe it is now under the MORC umbrella. Good reason to get involved though. We're pretty spoiled with the amount of trail systems available these days. I remember getting into this over 25 years ago and very few trails systems around. Grateful for all the trails we have available these days!

Come to think of it... I'm not sure I ever ran it with the 32 on it. I think my first rides were with a 34. I didn't have the suspension super dialed at that point anyway and then shortly after put a 36 tooth on. So the 36 was on before I really got the rear suspension dialed in anyway, so I wouldn't have known the difference or at least had it dialed enough to give a reliable comparison. I used the Shock Wiz to get it dialed in. Good question though! Would be interesting to have the Shock Wiz all set up, suspension dialed, then swap chainrings and see if Shock Wiz suggests changes.

Nothing/not much really... I don't use lock outs, even on my XC race setups. If bike comes with them, I remove them and clean up the clutter. Just don't see the need for them anymore with how good the suspension is on the bikes these days. I will use a Shock Wiz to dial in the shock settings though. Interestingly enough, I thought I would tighten down the compression damping a bit to kind of stiffen up the compression for gravel, but ended up opening it back up. I also did like the rebound backed off just a bit to handle all the quick washboard chatter without the shock packing up.

Awesome! It's a great platform. I think they did a good job of balancing the climbing ability of the rear and the playfulness/capability on the front end.

I'm 5"10 and was riding the medium. The medium was the closest fit out of the box for me. Maybe on the short side for effective top tube, but it has a generous stack and made for a relaxed fit. That said, I could make the medium or large work. The medium comes with a 100mm stem and the large with a 120. The large with a 100mm stem would work for me also, but has an even more generous stack. Hope that helps. Feel free to call our shop if you want to talk thru it. They are getting to be slim pickings, so can be a bit difficult to find one close to throw a leg over.
