I tried to retire, but hundreds of my South Louisiana friends drafted me back into the weather business. Whenever storms threatened, they asked if they should evacuate, take shelter, and protect their property. That led to Facebook posts to over a thousand friends and then a daily weather forecasting blog.
Here, I’m going to share what to do with the forecasts - deriving meaning from meteorological madness, cutting through the hype of modern weather casting to get to the meat of the matter and know what action, if any, to take. I also discuss solid preparation for the threats you can reasonably expect in your area.
My qualifications: I worked as a marine meteorologist for the National Weather Service for over 30 years where I trained forecasters, developed web sites, tested instruments, and wrote scientific papers. I have a B.S. in meteorology from Penn State (1973) and an M.S from Florida State(1974).

Oh honey me too. I already had bad anxiety and there was a tornado warning one night (early april-end of march, it was the first outbreak I think) and I just collapsed. My dad was gone and I was so afraid. Happened again the second outbreak when we were out of town and I couldn't go to sleep, eat, anything because I was worried sick. I hope we both get better for our sakes

I can't tell you the impact this video has had on me. Back in March of 2021 we had a really bad windstorm that ripped up our awning in the front of our house. And ever since then I've had severe weather anxiety. Like kind of a paralyzing fear of weather where I'd look up forecasts over a week out and panic and obsess if there were high winds in the forecast. I did this for the entirety of 2021 and the beginning of 2022 during the winter months. During the summer when the weather was relatively calm, I found your video. Today, we just had a windstorm as a cold front swept through and the temperatures shifted. Gusts easily up over 50mph. Last year during a storm like that, I'd have just locked myself in my room and panicked. This year, I found a few reliable channels here on youtube that I go to for my weather forecasts (my weather Rabbi's as you say). And when one of them tells me to expect high winds, I just mark the date of that event and just like I did today, I put on some music, I put on a video game or a TV show (currently re-watching LOST) and I get comfortable. And that ability to be comfortable even when my body or my mind might be telling me to be anxious is something that I attribute to you and this video. So thank you very much sir!
I’m the same exact way with winds. I panic and make myself sick. I’m glad I’m not the only person. Good to hear you have overcome those issues!
See I'm in an RV full time and now I'm worried about wind / tornadoes everytime there is a thunderstorm. About every 4 days... I'm from Oregon and never had to deal with this over there.
Give me an idea on the storm front for Florida.
But can you tell me when its going to snow in Florida again?

Dave as you already know for at least 45 years, I've been in the Marine transportation business. This was both in the field, and in the office. Needless to say an accurate weather forecast extremely important. You were always my go-to guy. I never can remember your predictions being off 1iota. I'm truly grateful to be a subscriber. My number one weather rabbi.
