Ros Serey Sothea and Sos Math were the singers of this song. Sos Math was her husband, but then they got a divorce, where Serey Sothea moved back with her family in the countryside and then Sinn Sisamuth followed her and they sang together. When the Khmer Rouge took over Phnom Penh in 1975, after they evacutated everyone to the countryside, Sinn Sisamuth was asked to go back to Phnom Penh to sing songs. The fate of both Sisamuth and Serey Sothea were unknown.

Ros Serey Sothea and her husband, Sos Math, were both musicians. They were performing at a bar. In the song, a woman is asking her husband not to be mad at her. Ros Serey Sothea was singing this song, and some random drunk man yelled “I’m not angry with you, dear!” Her husband heard this and was angry, but not at the drunk man. He was angry at his wife because he believed that she was cheating on him, even though she was not. He beat his wife and divorced her. How insecure he must have been! It makes me mad. She deserved much better! She almost quit her musical career, but Sinn Sisamouth convinced her to continue. This information was given in the documentary “Don’t Think I’ve Forgotten: Cambodia’s Lost Rock & Roll.” It’s a good documentary, and it gives a lot of information on the topic. I definitely recommend it.
I would like to correct something I had said. Sos Math didn’t divorce Ros Serey Sothea. She divorced him because she wouldn’t accept that kind of treatment. Good on her for that.
