Kumaoni weddings are simple and feature a number of important rituals, including:
Kankan
The bride's father ties a small cloth called a Kankan to her left wrist. The cloth contains a beetle nut, turmeric, coins, akshat (whole rice), and roli. The Kankan is opened on the fourth day of the marriage.
Purwang
This ceremony takes place in the morning of the wedding day. It includes a fast by the bride's parents and a puja.
