Hundreds of people have seen pumas in the Appalachian area and the foothills, even though the government denies their existence. My cousin in Tenn has seen one, as have many other people, including hikers and hunters.
I need some Bright lights for night time hunting

Did you check the metadata of the image so you know it’s from Ohio?
I'm from northeast Ohio hunting terrain very similar to yours lots of spoils and strip pits on mountainous old mining land. Over 200 acres of woods in tuscarawas County I haven't put out trail cams but need to. I saw one very close after seeing some turkeys but leaving the stand and going for a walk. Lots of old equipment and old huge collapsed concrete foundations right where I saw him. Hunt here frequently and have never even seen a bobcat only been showed videos from a friend that lives right by me of a bobcat walking up to his ladder on his stand and turning around and walking away. I had a mountain lion 10 yards from me I thought he was the land owners dog when he stood up on a flat infront of me and was broadside but looking away from me. Tail long swooping to ground and up with a black ring on it. It looked over its shoulder at me in the face and walked away. I didn't shoot I was froze, birdshot in my gun anyway so I backed away and walked back to my truck but he payed me no mind. An apex predator no doubt. No idea if there's a population or if its an Eastern cougar or a western cat migrating far away for solitude and territory, he was big but not huge, small face kind of so probably a wandering male living life. Been hiking and out there a lot still and looking for him again but haven't ever seen him. There was some sign of his claws in pine trees where I saw him. Weird looking, not claw marks really but lots of like quarter inch holes in lines and then stripped hanging bark off pine branches but healthy live trees. I reported it to odnr but really need it on tape to have any sort of evidence of it lol. Its 2024 I'm searching for him out here a lot its been 3 years this spring I saw him in spring season then, haven't seen him this year again
I’m a nurse and after having one of my patients who lives in Steubenville tell me there’s one that frequents her yard, another patient that lives near Portsmith and Johnson said they’re near there too and he knows a game warden that supposedly brought some from out west and released them in Ohio 10 years ago…. Why? No clue but kind of makes sense with the more frequent sightings espec near Cincinnati from what I’ve read which seems random. My husbands boss went a little whacko on some drugs last summer but claims he saw one in Columbus near the scioto river, but it’s sooo crowded in Columbus and at the park he claims he saw it at the fact no one else has seen one seems highly highly unlikely. He also thinks there’s a mass cia operation in Troy Ohio lol, and was going on other crazy tangents, but anyways…. Def curious where all in Ohio they really are now
Seen some big cat paw prints out at aep in March this year, then I found out later that day that cougars have been seen here 😅 now I'ma carry when I'm fishing by myself out here
If ya can’t grow a beard. Don’t grow a beard.
I saw one in stow Ohio in 2022 on steels corner road, northern Ohio
People who live in the Hocking hills area told me of seeing them
Saw a dead one in Ohio on the east bound lane (I 70) right at the Indiana/Ohio line.
I live in Jackson county and have saw 2 of them in the last 20 years. One was out near Lake Alma around 11pm. It walked across the road on scenic highway about 30 yards ahead of me. It went down in a field and turned its head and looked back at me and then jumped a fence. I almost hit one out a few years later out near Leo when I was headed to Chillicothe.
As a person from Southeastern Ohio (specifically Muskingum County), born and raised, I think it is possible that we could have these around here. In the countryside where my family and I live (my dad, the wildlife and geography expert of my family, says the location of my area is technically the Appalachian foothills), we have coyotes and wild dogs, both I've heard before. Why can't mountain lions be in our area too? It's the perfect spot for them to roam, being that it's surrounded by tall hills and woodlands.
Moved to gallia county 2 years ago. Thanks for sharing this.
I seen a Black Panther when hunting in Ashland county it was huge !
Seriously?? My husbands boss who went a little whacko last year claims he saw one in Columbus lmao, and since he had kind of gone off the deep end at the time we assumed he had hallucinated. Maybe he wasn’t crazy😂
I live in ohio and see en pass threw , people try say there big bob cat , the skinny long tail says no they pass threw to west Virginia sll time, i see vksck bear once a month now dloms
I saw one couple days ago out in Pike county
Iv seen tracks and heard them in Bender Mountain Nature Preserve just outside of Cincinnati. Their screams sort of sound like a woman screaming.
What caliber is she shooting?
20 ga.
@@mossieoutdoors2652 thank you
"life expan" what that?
Good job!.
I whish I had seen your video when it came out!, we had one on video on a womans deck on video three years ago in chandlersville ohio!, she put it on Facebook!. We also had a pair of mountain lions over near Kimbolton, ohio 2 years ago they killed a farmers dog that was barking at them as they proceeded to kill a new born calf and drag it off!. 2 days later to girls walked out to their car at 6 in the am and the pair of lions were standing at the end of there drive!. We've had several other sightings down around Mconlesville and Waterford ohio!. I see Jeff on the mountain monster show a couple of times a year and he said its possible of mountain lions comming into southeastern, ohio, but he told me rumor has it the state has let some go to control the population of either coyotes or something else!. Theve been placing a few bear in areas of southern and southeastern ohio with GPS monitors on them!. Trying to thicken them up in areas, just like they have with rattlesnakes inserting chips in them and monitoring them!. They usaully are working with Ohio State University! On the bear and rattlesnakes!. So you never know what the states up too its hush, hush!. Great video!.
They do you make a deep gurgling sound you can hear them purring up to 70 yards
Henderson Kentucky
They’re absolutely in Kentucky I’ve seen three in my lifetime
i swear on everything i love i just saw a white mountain lion outside my house yesterday. southeastern ohio.
I can personally verify having seen two different mountain lions in Southern Central Ohio while hunting a 90 acre homestead originally settled in the early 1800s. The land is pristine hunting for whitetail and turkey... if you don't take at least a doe on the daily ~ you've chosen not to harvest one that day. Period. I've seen multiple 'Buck Ohio' bucks, 3 & 4 deep, in a line following a hot doe in rut ... not 5 yards apart from each other. The generational herds are 20+ strong and traveled the same few paths, like clockwork, through boulder bluffs. There is zero hunting pressure from the surrounding area land owners and only about 8 hunters permitted on this land, which is 40 minute drive off of paved roads, on single lane privately kept dirt lanes. Impassable without a 4x4 and usually a winch as well. Truly blessed to have had access for 20 years. We had multiple stands and blinds throughout and 'stayed put' from daylight to dark. In these conditions, I saw both a light tan colored female and a dark colored, much larger male ... not sure of how dark as it looked smokey black/grey in the late afternoon shadows of the mossy bluffs... always in same few acres. The female was all over the property, at different times and sunned herself on the boulders in a small holler. Multiple times. Multiple years ... not every year, however there was a stretch of about 5 years when I was able to hunt down there on a weekly, if not daily basis during fall bow season. I had military grade binoculars and usually a spotting scope. No doubts. No misidentification. I often watched them (separately & different days) for hours whilst glassing for monster bucks. Most often, the dark male would be stalking & alert the bigger bucks whom ALWAYS pointed him out 75 to 100 yards away ... uncanny how I came to rely upon the big boys to get a glimpse of him stalking. He is/was a BIG CAT... at least the size of a large man. I never witnessed him trying a takedown, although the herds would spook and bolt on the far side, past the bluffs in the ravine and off the allowed property boundaries in a blindside surrounded by hundreds of acres of large hardwood forest. The female is/was formidable as well at about 150 lbs. She picked off yearlings and fawns and was much less careful about her surroundings. As well, there were MANY trees that had the signature claw marks; front paws hugging outside the trees with rear paws up the middle. These oaks were so big that the cats could have been on a 24" circumference 'branch' and you wouldn't see them. Lots of smaller trees that were favorite turkey roosts also had the climbing claw marks. I haven't been to the property for 7 years or so and have no idea what the situation is now. The folks that live in this area are tight knit and don't like to be bothered with ODNR and such, hence a call to report a sighting was not welcome and could result in lifetime permission revocation. Quite frankly, I had no idea that there was a debate about mountain lion inhabitants existing in Ohio or I would have made efforts to photograph the 'phenomenon'. The Amish in the area talked about them at the check-in points (back when your kill MUST be checked in by hand in the county or no further than the adjacent county). I'm here to confirm the FACT that mountain lions inhabit remote, deep woods Ohio.
A mountain lion was photographed on top of the hill, that overlooks the animal shelter, in Independence, Ky. , and made it on the local news in Cincinnati , back sometime between 2004 and 2009. I remember those dates, because that's when I was living in Burlington, Kentucky. I worked at the Cincinnati Airport, and had at least one co-worker that lived in Independence, Ky. Burlington, and Independence are two towns, just across the Ohio River from Cincinnati.
I have seen tracks and heard their calls on the Bender Mountain Preserve just outside Cincinnati in Delhi Ohio
Great job 👍
Years ago I was walking off trail at west branch state park and came across a very large track set . The prints were a little larger than the palm of my hand. I took some pictures and sent them to a Buddy that lives in south Carolina and who has been a hunter his whole life. He told me that he was almost positive they were tracks from a mountain lion..
I saw big foot northeast Ohio he was chasing a elk
I never seen a elk in Ohio yet, im sure ohio dnr will stock them again if not already
It’s incredible how the my lions are moving back to the east coast. Do you guys think that they would be able to survive and coexist with us humans like raccoons and coyotes in the future? Please tell me your answer in the comment.
Thanks awesome vid
I seen a big one in east kentucky 3 hrs from the river about 23 years ago..my aunt who was dying of cancer at the time. Seen it. or them. cross the creek in front of her house also about the same time..so sad we dont put more trust in our fellow communities..didnt use to be that way?
Wow thats a great cam shot of a Mountain Lion.
So what's the big deal? People act like they have seen a UFO. He's on his own habitat. Are you on his turf? He can't help it we built highways and homes and businesses on their habitat.
Mountain lions and black bears live in WV and wolves used to be here but people, humans have fucked that up, I barely see black bears anymore and the mountain lions are very rare now
yes not fun to see one in the first place no cage at 20 yards - i'm not fan of game commission but i thought they were good people at first now i know they brought them here and a guy thinks its funny well i never seen a game commssion in the woods why i say this - they want there families thats why sitting at the desk all day long having chrismas parties lunch inns i wouldn't to be one at one time to old now but heres the thing is why i know its true others confronts a game commission he said yes he knows about these creatures it pure evil in the why - they don't want panic in are state well all eastern parts to the cost line has these animals in it i'm just saying i know what there up to keep in side on the desk fronts but im out gathering information to these cougars at best i can do im for it but when you see one its not fun to be there infront of one you understand
well i live in western pa above pittsburgh pa 40 miles up river i seen three of them now without a cage - yes not fun to be there not a freaking joke - reasons why they say males are dying ouwest but yet moved here in the eastern spot - they had brought them here in my pa rule book no animals are to be gotten out of state i believe to why would they do this well the auto insurance people slammed them well another reasons why coyotes in the states now somebody shot one had a ear tag he called it they were from california state nation wide first one spotted in islen pa 2013 i was on my tail gate a lookin for coyotes something grabbed my eyes behind hey bale it stood up i new what it was i couldnt move to my truck my camera was on seat i have two cameras its cause i did not move i did no what to say but im on these cases since 1997 but got 385 cases of these creatures here in my state half of them i think lied to there story but got records of all of them on computer - they are highly dangerous animals which god above send these kinds of people to hell cuz its purely evil in hwat there doing today - ive been on these cases for long time but i search in all places -but not remote areas close to house but now a man said on roaring run trail had seen one there by apollo pa for at least 10 yrs he seen it never to come back to area - my thanks giving day 2013 roughly at - 12;00 pm i dont ever want to see one again at all i might have psd from this experience i had but its here believe me i know we had lots of people say they had seen one the size of it was huge
I seen one in the town of logan and at hideaway hills
The animal in the middle of the video, between 2:19 to 2:55, is definitely a cougar. Next step is to ground truth it to make sure it's not a hoax (a photo taken elsewhere). According to the protocol set up by the Cougar Network, the next step have the gentleman take an employee of the Ohio DNR to the site to establish that it's really in Ohio, not somewhere else where mountain lions definitely occur.
good tips. thanks for sharing
Wow, alot of sightings in the comments, what did they do release a truckload of the critters.
Nice info. just started night hunting. Only 1 down in 3 hunts. Hope to get little better
When I have a dog hanging up ,while coming in to a rabbit distress, I lower the volume almost all the way down. It usually brings them in
I seen one about 7 years ago when I was driving truck delivering to Chrysler dodge dealerships down between belleville, ohio and I think fredricktown,Ohio at about 3AM in the morning..It was crossing the road.It was kind of tall and skinny too so I think it was young but I knew it when I seen it..I'm about 95% sure..Also within about a 20 mile distance from there I hit like 6 deers at once so i know he had some food in that area.
When you heard the coyotes calling back, why don’t you keep calling to get them into shooting range? Or are you saying they aren’t going to come closer, so leave them for another time?
So them coyotes are using what we know as the challenge howls .They are saying our group is larger come join us! So at this point you have to know when to stop or all you are doing is educating them. Or as you said leave them alone for another time..
Thanks man.
Been calling off and on for near 20 years, taking it very serious going almost weekly 5-6 months out of the year for the last 9 years. Love hand calling with a passion, but I go back and forth with electronic. Not to proud to say I just picked up two pretty good things here. Good job and great knowledge , your whole video. 👍👍
Excellent. Straight to the point! Thanks for taking the time to film, edit and upload. Thumbs up
Great info!....I'm so guilty of killing the call midway.... I've done it more out of mistake as in hitting the wrong button. I get so irritated with myself because I knew I just blew that call.
That stuff hurts. But also helps make this sport so cool, there's always something to learn. Just gotta keep grinding.
