Мой любимый фигурист 😊👏🏻
I love this guy
So glad to find this .... the American coverage only got about half. I liked this better than Albertville.
He reminds me of andrey uvarov former principal dancer at bolshoi ballet.
Thanks for posting! I actually remember this from 1994.
He kind of looks like Eminem LOL
He and Kurt Browning always had the best, most entertaining exhibition routines.
Petrenko's performance is brilliant, showing detailed expression, comparison and contrast between crisp movements and still postures, and a tension between flair and tender artistry. When he moves, he shows a clear line of motion across the ice, particularly with his arms, providing an elegant profile. Over the next 5 years, he developed and refined these skills and qualities to perfection, particularly by Skate America in 1993, making him one of the greatest skaters of all time.
The skating, during this time period to me, seems so much more full and alive...there was so much expression in it. Today's skaters at times seem to do nothing but jump, and what's between the jumps doesn't quite have the artistic tone Boitano, Orser and Petrenko have. Men are expected to do a quad now, even though it is hit or miss for most of them, and everyone counts jumps, while not much goes on in between. There's less artistic feeling.
I quite agree starry61. If you watch the Russian championships in any given year it's littered with teenagers flunking the quad and becoming disaffected thereby.
And all because of the stupid COP scoring system!
It does actually, because it carries the tradition of John Curry. Takeshi Honda skated his SP to it and everyone branded him as a great artistic skater. Judges like this music and it does help the artistic marks. Victor did have a good line, but if you see him in the later years with his music, I dont feel it had the same impact as this did
The 5.5 was ridiculous but 5.7s and 5.8s on both sets were just right for this performance. It merited beating out his older and much better known teammate Fadeev who didn't skate well for the bronze.
I was talking about the 5.5 in particular. Those days skaters were not doing that many triples. Orser did not have 8 triples. Don Quixote music does not make just anyone look artistic. Viktor has great posture, lines, his palms are open, he is confident, and is expressing the music very well, particularly for an 18 year old. Many skaters are 3-4 years older before they have this understanding of the music.
I completely agree with you. Excellent point!!!
He only did 7 triples compared to 8 for the top two skaters. 5.7 is correct for this technically and artistically he was not superior to the top two, and it was more the music carrying him than him carrying the music. Don Quijote always makes a person seem more artistic than they are
He was undermarked, particularly artistically. Only 5.7s and even a 5.5 for that performance? Ridiculous. He should have received 5.8s and 5.9s across the board.
I quite agree Vasanti Deshpande, but then look at the nationalities of the guys placed above him.
@stevebbuk Orser, especially, got ridiculously high scores for his long program.
Snap! - The Cult Of Snap (Snap did "The Power" & "Rhythm Is A Dancer")
Anyone know the name of the song he is dancing to?
Viktor was more exciting in these Olympics than in Albertville... maybe it was being so young, and at that competition for the first time. His skating seems to reflect who he is; he's so genuine - you have to like that in a skater. And Gordeeva looks like a baby at 5:10, so cute!
When Gordeeva skated with Grinkov in the pairs long program, she looked like a tiny fairy. Their performance was amazing!
Одесса рулит!!!Танго с приколом!) )))
若くて、細くて、品があって、キレがあって、本当に美しいフィギュアスケートを見せてくれましたね。
Viktor is such a skater! No one can match him.
His flow and smoothness out of these jumps was incredible!!!!!! Always loved him, and love the way his palms go up after a jump.. such joy.
I actually saw Viktor Petrenko doing this on television a few years ago, many years ago and I thought this routine was amazing especially with the music of Snap.
