How To Verify Top Dead Center On An Assembled Engine (SBC)
Просмотров 20 тыс.Год назад
At 1:24 in the video, I meant to say bottom dead center. The piston needs to be down in the cylinder away from TDC so you won't be screwing the piston stop directly into the piston. Firing on #4 puts the #1 piston at the bottom on a SBC.

Nice . I just seen one for sale in the town I live in. How did you get the Wheel Horse decals made?
@bottledriver71 Thank you ! The decals came from a website called "redo your horse". Thanks for watching !
what was your best ET/mph? are your heads ported, what stall speed and what gears. Thanx Kelly
@kcbvids The best ET was 12.68 at 104 mph. It has a 3600 stall and 4.56 gears. The cars weight is 3440 with me in it. Thanks for watching !
@@kcbvids The heads are not ported
Why do you remove the rocker arms?
@jeffm7669 If you don't loosen or remove the rocker arms, the valves could hit the piston stop when you are turning it over. This could bend a valve very easily. Thanks for the question, and thanks for watching !
Great looking car, I love it and the engine combo. Doing something similar in a 55 chevy street machine, what did yours run E.T wise? Thanks for the video.
@Slayj1919 my best time with the car was 12.68 at 104 mph in good air. Thanks for watching, and good luck with the 55 build !
How much compression is that 327?
@@carlosfgarciasepulveda5927 that one is 11 to 1 compression
@ thanks for the reply! I’m building a 327 with 10.7:1 compression and I have to make a decision on camshaft. I need enough vacuum for power brakes. Did this engine make enough vacuum for power brakes?
@carlosfgarciasepulveda5927 The car has manual brakes, so we never really needed to check for vacuum. Sorry
Gracias maestro
Just like the one I have.

Thanks for doing the video- Yall say the engine rotate clockwise wich is twards the right- my question is why are you rotating it counterclockwise
@Joe-xj2tb looking at the front of the engine, it would be clockwise . Thanks for watching !
Rotate clockwise until it stops and then counter clockwise until it stops. Top Dead Center is halfway between the two marks (where it stopped both times).
To me the NA nitro cars sound the best. They pop hard
@@allen84jr yes, definitely
Sounds great
Thank you !
Just wondering if that is an 8 inch or 6.75 inch balancer. I just did mine today with all new Chrome and Howards roller cam using a aftermarket 6.75 inch balancer from Summit. My marks were 6 7/8 apart divided by 2 is about 3.50 for center. I came in on my desk top computer to double check as they are further apart and wondering why. It is a 1976 Corvette.
My balancer is 6.75 inch. The distance between the marks depends on how far the piston stop goes into the cylinder. It really doesn't have anything to do with the size of the balancer. Just turn it both ways until it stops and measure between the marks and divide by 2 and that would be true top dead center. Thanks For Watching !
I'm sorry, that one is an 8 inch. I was thinking about my 327 in my chevelle. The one I did the demonstration on is a 350
What balancer do you have, part number?
It is just a stock 350 balancer and I don't have a part number, sorry.
Okay, thanks. I have a three fifty crate with an aftermarket balancer And lined it up like you did it the video. Just be nice to have the right balancer.
Me and my brother n dad are arguing about getting the 292 they keep telling me to get the 268 but I like how this thing chops how's it drive
It drives really good. It does have a stall converter and 4.56 gears though. I had a comp 268 in a camaro years ago and really didn't care for it. If the 292 seems to big, you might want to try one of the smaller mega cams or a 270 or 280 comp magnum. My Dad's car has the 270 comp magnum and it sounds and runs pretty good !
And Thanks For Watching !
@briansummers8030 thanks I'll mention that with them
I ended up ordering the 292 they finally agreed after talking to some engine builders 😂@briansummers8030

How can you spend all that money and can't afford hood hinges ??????
It has hood hinges. I can't put springs on them because of the fiberglass fender. What do you mean by spend all that money ? This was built in the 80's on a budget. Thanks For Watching !
327!!!!! One of the greatest engines Chevy ever made. I owned a '67 Camaro with a 250 inline 6. It wasn't a 327 but it was quick for what it was.
The 250 six had alot of torque. I had one in the 81 short bed truck that I restored and used as a tow truck to pull my car trailer back in the 90's. Very good running engines ! Thanks For Watching !
327, the mighty mouse!
@josephmartinez8803 Back when the car was still silver and had the stock flat hood on it, I made a cowl Induction scoop for it, and on the side of the scoop I painted "Mighty Mouse". That was something that I had totally forgot about until now ! Thanks for refreshing my memory and Thanks For Watching !
I love isky stuff. I hope the corprate equality firms dont take over and distroy the quality like they have been doing deseasing other performance companys

The GM optional Z mechanical lifter cam was popular in the ‘70s. With 202 heads it made great power.

When I turn the balancer counter clockwise the bolt is loosening and I can’t turning the balancer a full cycle? Any help so that the balancer bolt won’t loosen. I torque the bolt at 85 lb per ft but when I turn the the balancer the same way you do counter clockwise the bolt loosen
If you remove the spark plugs, you should be able to turn it easier. You can also turn it with the flywheel or if the pulley is removed from the balancer, you can put 2 of those bolts in and use a large screw driver or pry bar to turn it.
Thats because the engine rotates COUNTER CLOCKWISE!

Sounds great, neighbor had a 66 Chevelle 300post Marina Blue car,(org 194ci 3sp) his oldman bought the car new, sometime around 82/83 the oldman found a year matching 350hp 327, Jason inherited the car in 85 , had few different cams in that ole 327 , the old 30-30 cam sounded great, had this wild crane cam( 290-300ish duration @ .50) sounded like a pro stocker, every cam change, every head change, rear gear change, Jason would come knocking on my door, " Hey $100 says I can get around that Hemi of yours(no offense , he never got around me, legit low 10 high 9 street car), late 89 I was finishing up a D5 headed 482ci hemi for the ole Savoy , we went cruising Lansdale in his 66, some drunk chick in a 86 Mustang GT lost it making a right on red, (go figure, an Out of control Mustang) she fishtailed in to us as he was making a left, tore up that poor car up bent frame , knocked out the 30+ years of bondo that had been gathering in that Driverside 1/4 (eastern Pa road salt) back window shattered, truck lid buckled up at the hinge , it was a hard hit, my head bounced off p-side door glass . .My old man and I kept the 66 in the back of the pole barn while Jason gathered parts to fix it, .. his life happened, joined the army ,two great daughters and a in and out of rehab wife, we lost Jason in Iraq back in 03 , I reframed the 66 in 05 , new 1/4s, trunk floor, kept as much of the ORG roof and sail panel as I could....he also wanted to repaint the car Cameo Beige..so now the 20 year clean and sober widow runs it once a month to a few local cruise nights , hits Maple Grove every Chevy Sunday, and the Chevelle sits victorious in the garage next to her wrecked 86 GT mustang.
